The fact that in my country we are mostly white people , lightly tan some of us , and we have an obsession with getting tanner and darker because "it looks better, if you are too light you look sick or like a ghost" , but thats the fucking gene and the climate of my country is pretty cold ,less sun exposure and there is no way you can naturally tan without having to stay 2 weeks in the sunt at the forbidden hours . Also the "why dont you stay more in the sun so you can tan" while i am blonde and white af so of coure my body doesnt have enough pigment to show up
India, Pakistan, so many asian countries need to understand that beauty is not limited to appearances. Dark skin isn’t “dirty” and no one should be ashamed of their skin. This is a custom that NEEDS to go. Recently, a brand renamed itself from “fair and lovely” to “glow and lovely” and this made me really happy, even if it was just to avoid criticism. We need to slowly work our way up to complete non-discrimination.

China's makeup lines as well is crazy! I've seen those can of "whitening products" they spray on their whole body which turn their skin into the Whites color, even my sister wants to have whiter skin like mine but I really like her morena skin, it looks so beautiful in the sun but she's so insecure'bout it.☹️
My dad is very fair and my mom has a deeper complexion ... When I was born the first question one of my uncle asked my dad was "If the baby is as dark as her mom" just minutes after I came into the world, not about my health or if everything is alright but color 🤦 . Then they found out I wasn't as "dark" and got a sigh of relief.
It is the same with my parents, and yes, the exact same happened to me. I consequently turned out to be even fairer than my dad who is very fair when compared to my mum. People always compare me with my mum saying how unfortunate it is for her to have a daughter who looks nothing like her. They give nasty remarks on her skin colour when I am with her.....I feel sick to my stomach. I just noticed how on the scene where the kids are in school, the girl all the way on the left seems like she has a crush on the boy who’s 70. I love this scene because it shows the double edge. Initially it’s just rejection because of being too dark, but if you think about it, it also shows how the girl who’s 20 in brown number is the one getting asked out because she’s so fair
Black people in America are treated better when they have lighter skin. Looking tan or "exotic" is only really prized for people who already had light skin in the US.
Yeah people get this tan thing confused. If your skintone is a "number 2" and you tan it to a "number 5" does that really mean you want darker skin? People with darker skin tones get discriminated against in western countries all the time.
Yes, like Erin says. People usually wants to be tan but NOT THAT TAN. They want to "have some color", not necessarily to look dark. I've seen some British women getting very dark tho, but i've also read many people criticizing them, so i guess it's not that well seen to be very tanned either.
Omg this is so relatable.. I m a dark brown girl from Bangladesh.. Nd I never felt confident in my life. never got a proposal from a boy though I have a good taste of music nd literature.. .. everyone wants a fair skin toned girl here no matter she is so stupid or dumb... If u are born fair, u will be treated as a queen, nd if u are dark, u resembles like a maid..
That’s a shame. Just know that culture can change! I’m American and the funny thing is dark skin is seen as attractive and if you’re too pale then people laugh at you (not in a mean way). Girls who are pale tan themselves all the time so they can become an “ideal” shade. All skin colors are beautiful... there’s a reason God made us all look so different. The only thing that changes is our mindset.
Yeah..in my society too...fair skinned girls got proposals from very rich guy...(.but that doesn't matter for me even I am dusky girl too 😌)I don't want that kind of family who prefers skin color more that manner and intelligent...
What should We have to do is ... improve ourselves be educated and do the rings that changes the world..and also I have to tell that in my life I always sticks and convince my parents ,siblings, friends and colleagues about the consequences of these complex because I know how it hurts ...so always try to make them understand that dark color is not bad ots just a color all that matters is how the way We are❤️
Well I can't propose you, but just know you are a beautiful person for having your priorities and personality right. That's what matters. And yeah i am brown. :)
I am Bangladeshi, and my mother has pretty light skin, my dad kind of dark skin and me and my brother are in the middle. My mother always asks me, “Do I look Bangladeshi?”, and it annoys me a lot, considering she asks this a lot. Or she says, “You know, a lot of people think I’m Hispanic or Middle Eastern.”. This kind of made me self conscious. It made me think things like “Am I not beautiful because my skin isn’t the lightest?”. But I soon came to the realization that no, all skin colors are beautiful, and at first I was mad at my mother. But over time, I realized that she is just saying what was drilled into her and many others when she was a child, and that’s just the sad truth. I remember I was curious about why lighter skin was deemed better, so I researched it a bit. For one, people who had to work as farmers, common people, had to stay out in the sun a lot so their skin would darken. But rich people who had indoor jobs and access to beauty products had light skin, and because of their money, they seen as better. Another reason is when the British went to India, they drilled that they were better, and white people in India were seen as beautiful and rich, so Indian people, and other Asian countries wanted to be like these light exotic people. And honestly, I hope with time, Asian countries can learn to accept all tones of skin. Edit: Just to clear up some confusion, when I said “my mother has pretty light skin” I didn’t mean pretty as in beautiful. I meant pretty as in mostly or somewhat. I hope that helps!

This is so true & sad at the same time. No matter how much we say. But India's obsession with white skin is ridiculously strong. The pregnant women are asked to eat coconut cause it's white. Milk instead of tea. As tea is believed to make skin dark. It's more of white benefits than health benefits. A fair girl is considered much more beautiful. No matter how her facial features are. But a dusky or dark girl is ugly no matter how beautiful her features. And the ones to contribute to this mentality are our celebs who not only endorse whitening products. But also get skin lightening done just after they enter the glamour, Bollywood or Tv industry.

There is one solution to this... Rise in class hierarchy. I know it sounds just like this skin hierarchy bullshit, but trust me skin colour matters less and less once you climb higher in class either through money, education or social influence. I was born and brought up in small village in Maharashtra and went on to complete education in top colleges of Mumbai and Pune. Skin colour was a big let down when I was a kid, but as I grew older and acquired other qualities, life became easier. Though it only really changed when I started my life in cities and got surrounded with people from influential background. I observed that skin colour mattered less in the circles of elites. Girls with very dark skin colour were confident and got partners they liked quite easily. No one ever mentioned my skin colour to me which was surprising. After pandemic when I got back to my native place I realized how big of an issue skin colour is. At least for boys it can be negated by earning money and influence, but middle class girls really have hard time going out with their natural skin colour. That's why I said, don't change your colour, change the people around you. Poor and middle class is so depraved, they frantically reach out for any preveledge they can acquire, and skin colour is one of very few that is accessible to them, the other being male gender and high caste.

I think the beauty industries and their marketing is responsible for such mindset of people that they want change the colour of new born baby . The baby has to suffer so much the baby got traumatized because of his or her own family and this affects their brain,self-esteem as well as their future .And now a days making jocks over dark complexion has become a trend on insta that affects ones mental health that is why addressing this problem is important .
As a south asian myself, my skin had always been a big factor of everything, although I didn't face extreme discrimination for my tan skin, my friends and family who were darker than me, were always told to shower, stop drinking tea, and use whitening cream, sometimes, even my mother would tell me I'm dark and unattractive, although she never used face lightening cream on me, my dad (who is much darker) always tried to prove he wasn't dark and had eurocentric features, but mostly women are shamed for being dark and looking like a jinn (a demon), people can't even get married for being dark, and being light skinned meant angelic, being medium skinned means nothing, & being dark is satanic, dirty, and bad.
yes, as a medium skinned person, i was significanlty darker bc i played sports when i was little, and was forced to use bleaching creams... one day at the beach my sister was crying and wanted me to scrub her tan off with a loofa..its really sad. My little cousins are darker and i compliment them everytime i see them its truly so terrible how darker people are treated it has to change!

PSA: Many, many, many people with dark skin are drop-dead gorgeous. I know this is about India wanting to be a different color but this also shows about racism and both are very important and I want the world to stop doing those things, people sometimes kill there selves because of there skin color & not only is that hurting themselves but also other people like there family & friends, sometimes they go out to kill them selves too and all because of the way they look. Whoever is reading this, you are beautiful! You could be any kind of race and you are still beautiful! Black, white, Hispanic, etc. Any kind of race you are that is the main reason why you are beautiful just the way you are! God made a beautiful creation & that creation is you! So just be you and live with your beautiful beautiful race and beautiful beautiful skin! Story time: one time at school one mixed kid called me the famous n word and spat in my face! I asked why he was being *racist* and he simply said “mixed people can’t be racist” I was crying because all the other students even the one with the exact same race bullied me for the whole year Also this was on the first day of 3rd grade, the teacher just stay seated in her chair, drinking her coffee and did nothing! Worse of all my parents got me kicked of school, and it was the racist Principal who thought of that so really my Principal got me kicked out of school and told it to my parents FACE! A depressing & angry start for me. 😔 😤
True. It's a man made psychological problem we have. Let me tell you one incident. Our friends group were gone for a trip to Lucknow. There we were waiting for our turn to deposit our luggage in the airport. All of my friends are fairer than me, so the lady who was working on that counter asks everyone in english and when finally it's my turn she asked me in hindi. This is a very small incident but it really make me to give it a thought. As I am educated and literate as my friends. But still, I didn't say anything else than a pleasent answer of her question and deposit my luggage. This just shows what people think of eachother by their color. I think outer beauty such as face is defined by the structure of it not by skin color.

WTF uncle u so unlucky
It is the same with my parents, and yes, the exact same happened to me. I consequently turned out to be even fairer than my dad who is very fair when compared to my mum. Initially it’s just rejection because of being too dark, but if you think about it, it also shows how the girl who’s 20 in brown number is the one getting asked out because she’s so fair
Meanwhile, here in America, people want to be more tan. It doesn't matter what you have, you always want something different
And women in Eastern Asia get double eyelid surgery to get bigger looking eyes.
@Cole Lowe White people may want more tan, but society as a whole isn’t all that fond of people of color.

What a lovely video ! The amount of toxicity we face right from our childhood years on this colour issue is illogical and unwanted!Don't just normalise colour but let's celebrate people of colour! Thank you for this stereotype challenging video ! Way to go !

THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST ANIMATION I HAVE EVER WATCHED .It has so deep meaning now a days people look fairness as being successful ,rich , intelligent even if none of them correlates .
Jinns come in all colors. It's funny, because in Africa most people think Jinns are pale.
This is so sad
It feels that this obsession is so deeply in our roots, even we dont know. I dont know what was the last time natural beauty was considered beautiful. I have so much to say, but I will iust say thank you. Probably in a thousand years we Indians would be able to overcome this obsession and will see shades as shades without judgement.
This is a pure masterpiece. It's deserves so much more appreciation. This needs to be seen. truly THE BEST thing i saw

Yes that has happened in my family too
Same here. My family is really mixed so we’re a huge shade of browns and beiges, and even though we’re not explicitly told by some members it’s hinted that we should all “better the race”, it’s mostly the elderly who slyly suggest it so at least it’s kinda getting better 🤷🏽♀️

Initially I didn't care about my skin color at all but as I grew up I started thinking "am I not beautiful if my skin color is brown" I literally started wearing makeup to look brighter But I was not at all comfortable with wearing it... I was not me when I am wearing it...and eventually I stopped doing all that stuff... I love myself for who I am, not what people want me to be..💜💜💜 #love_yourself

PSA: Many, many, many people with dark skin are drop-dead gorgeous. But companies can make money by convincing everyone that they need lighter skin, and money matters more to them than people being treated well by others or feeling confident about themselves. I have often wished to be as good-looking as someone much darker than me (I'm white so that's a lot of people). Don't let businesses convince you that skin color is what makes you attractive!!
That baby looked so cute... And that little girl for which her mom is crying
I’m from Brasil and this is a problem here too, of course they deal with in a different way. Here in the south people are whiter. Well I wasn’t born white, I’m mixed and oh boy I was bullied at school for that. I had to hear comments about my skin being darker daily even though in my family I have lighter skin.
When I was teenager I started to hate my skin tone, I use to wash my skin in the shower until it bleed. Now we talk about racism more and internet is bringing so much information that I understand the problem is not my skin. Awareness is crucial
Seriously....this brown number creates so many insecurities among people of dark shades.
I am a dusky girl and throughout my whole childhood and teenage I felt ugly just because of this.
People and media keep reminding you of your brown number consistently and this creates so much complex in small kids or teenagers' mind.
Everyone is beautiful and everyone is talented...can't we keep it as simple as that.
So in short you have a weak mindset 🤷 and your skin color lets it manifest itself and now you have something to blame for your own shortcomings.....okay cool .
That's how victim mindset works
@@JINKAZAMA-ik2df I am very confident in my own skin now but children and teenagers dont have a strong mind...they are vulnerable and if society is accussing them of something they cant even control what would they do?..Nobody is super confident from the beginning these things matters

Mind blowing art . What a thinking . Simply awesome
As a western person with light skin: People are tanning themselves here and they are using bronzers because it is said that you see less blemishes/redness or acne on darker complexions and that it makes your face look slimmer. It is also believed that a tan will make your wrinkles less obvious. You will see more redness and acne on lighter skin. It is also believed that a tan will make you look healthy and like someone who is spending time outside (not sitting inside in front of a screen).
Yeah but then also that's wrong. We need to accept ourself..
Yeah but I should still be getting more sunlight than I do...
My stupid nightshift schedule doesn't allow for that... 😑
It's sad that racism still exist, people still differentiate between dark and fair skin, being fair is privillaged and being dark is inferior, after all we all are humans, in the end it's not the colour which defies us, its the love, care and compasion that we have shown to others which upbrings us a good person. The video is good and inspirational...😊.
in this case, this is colorism
Technically, this is colorism. Colorism and racism are rooted together but they aren't the same.
I'm 16 year old Indian. I didn't know India had this range of fair skin madness until I searched more about it . I kind of wished I had some degree of fair skin after watching those white washing ads (u know which ones) , then I realized that I should be happy with my skin colour bcuz everyone's unique💓. All I want is clear skin bcuz i have many pimples( From genes) . The kicker, I still use Johnson baby soap rather than those fair skin soaps. 💀

Now this is something that we don't see everyday, Splendid job guys.
The thing with advertising companies is they’re there to SELL PRODUCT. So, if everybody decided one day that skin color didn’t matter, the ad companies would just switch to something different to scare you and part you with your money 🤨
It is written on the frame "revealing brown no. Before birth is punishable offense" "save the brown child"
Like Batman once said
'It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me'
How you look doesn't matter, what you do is what matters.
Judging by the mask color, batman wanted to look darker..
Also, if his idea of morals are using violence to get your way.. Then I don´t know if we should be quoting him in this context...

It's just an insecurity but never comes true expect Bollywood.
Dark complexion people are successful, rich, whatever we want to say. Our ISRO Head Scientist has dark complexion, political leaders have dark complexion, corporate executives, artists, mystics, billionaires, south stars ⭐, top class software engineers. It has more to do with our day to day social life and conversations which are influenced by media. If we are more influenced by our history and civilization then it's a matter of pride. Lord Krishna is iconic in this case, Lord Rama is legendary, Rather we neglet those gods with arrogance and ego (indra & brahma). If we are confident then the whole world will bow down.

Even Africans (or at least West Africans from what I know) are obsessed with having "fair" skin. My aunties using skin whitening products and my mum saying she wishes she had fair skin like her kids. When my cousin was born one of the first things they said about her is that she has "fair" skin like her mother. It makes me sad that some people aren't proud of their natural skin.
I swear I love dusky/ dark / charcoal skin. Like its so unique and beautiful ❤🖤
I can so much relate to this..my relatives are worried by my complexion. "tumhare family m to koi bhi itna kala nahi hai iska aisa rang kyu hai?" or telling me to apply this "taaki rang nikhar jaaye" I've been bullied too by being called kali due to my brown shade.. like in school too there was a fashion show.. my teacher took everyone who were fair except me as I'm not that fitting in the India's beauty norms and that kinda hurted me.. everyone is same you can't just discriminate anyone based upon their colour. everyone copied Western culture but now when western countries have changed their mindset about dark colours, why aren't people accepting it too?
Omg this is a very good comment, I'm not from those parts but I'm latinoamerican, honeslty hate how people try and mimic wester people but-- just the bad part? They be acting like they are western and then be racisit, homofobic and so on, hope we can claim only the good things.

Story time:
one time at school one mixed kid called me the famous n word and spat in my face!
I asked why he was being *racist* and he simply said “mixed people can’t be racist”
I was crying because all the other students even the one with the exact same race bullied me for the whole year
Also this was on the first day of 3rd grade, the teacher just stay seated in her chair, drinking her coffee and did nothing!
I loved the animation, but I especially loved the soundtrack, for some reason it's so nostalgic and reminds me of some beloved Indian cartoons of childhood.
