Good thinking on cutting short work pieces. I sometimes remove my bandsaw vise and install a homemade long vee block or an angle plate to hold short or awkward work pieces. Another modification that would work very well would be to mount the vise so it can be adjusted so the jaw is closer to the blade. This could be done by milling a slot across the bottom of the vise and mounting a cross rail onto the table of the saw. It is then simple to adjust the lateral position of the vise relative to the blade.
Thanks Howard! It seems that these vises are made to let you struggle. I am of the opinion that a standard vise profile would work better than the vise supplied. 🤔 It is interesting to see everyone's solution to the same problem.
