To strangle that poor little duck is frankly sick! She should have at the very least found a member of staff....too very sad".Irresponsible dog owners not welcome" should be on plaques everywhere.
Imagine the lack of integrity to not come forward when it’s been all over the news! How would she feel if someone had done the same to her dog? A pet is a pet. It’s beyond comprehension.
Congratulations on learning to sew, Julie!! I am 65 years old and have been sewing for 57 of them! I sew clothing, home goods, costumes, and decorations; in addition, I quilt. (And, for all 57 of the years I've been sewing/quilting, I have used a Singer.) If you stick with it, it has the potential to become a very rewarding part of your life.
Yes, I am an aged sewer from Australia & have always preferred Singer machines as they last forever & my last one I bought 29 years ago is light in design so that I can still carry it to my table when it is needed. My mother first taught me to sew on a old singer treadle machine when I was ten, then at 15 I went into a factory to sew, then in later years I sewed from home until my mid 60s when my shoulder & arm could no longer take the strain & now my eyesight along with my body is wearing out. So sewing is very difficult to do along with the inability to knit or crochet any longer so I am reduced to youtube & my cardmaking & scrapbooking days!! I am surprised that no one has offered you a white duck to take the place of Quakers. I really did expect at least one offer if not more! So I hope that the end of your summer is dry after the wet start to the season this year. Also hopefully a dry autumn so that you can get outside jobs done before the rainy season hits you again.
My husband has a PhD in linguistics and I remember him working on his dissertation. It was a ton of work and I am so proud of him. Your topic of study is more my cup of tea.
Julie, your boundless energy, the abilities you have and the willingness to learn new ones, an unending curiosity and love for Mapperton, has injected new life into the estate. Luke’s love of the land and preservation of it, his visits with Raymond, Darrell and others who help maintain the property, plus his wonderful dry sense of humor will ensure that Mapperton thrives and will continue to bring more visitors. Thank you for allowing all of us to experience a place most of us will never see. Y’all are so much fun. Please keep up the good work. 😊
I am absolutely so saddened to hear about Quackers. What in the world is wrong with people that they feel it's okay to harm animals...especially someone's pet? They should be profoundly ashamed.
Always excited to see a vlog from Mapperton. Whether it is Julie sharing Alberta and the treasures she left behind; or Luke’s determination to guard the land. ❤
Julie I absolutely love watching all your American Viscountess videos. You do a fantastic job of taking me on journeys to castles and manor. I have learned so much and soak it all in. Luke taking us around your land and showing all the rewilding projects is magnificent. Natural nature is the best thing to do for our planet. I also Love to see your father and mother in videos they have such wonderful chemistry.
The charity shop where I work sells cashmere sweaters “as is” when they aren’t in perfect condition because so many people up-cycle them into pillows, gloves, etc. It’s wonderful to see them get new life.
it is an absolute delight to listen to you two and your plans for Mapperton, thank you Julie for no longer interrupting Luke, it makes watching and listening to your videos so very much nicer. You obviously have huge plans for Mapperton and I look forward eagerly to each and every episode. Thank you for sharing your wonderful life and adventures with us all xxx
You CAN use the moth eaten wool. If you felt the wool, the wool and the holes shrink. Use other bits of the same wool, or a contrasting wool, to patch the holes with felting needles. I make hats, mittens and small dog jackets from old felted sweaters. An excellent way to recycle good wool that’s not fit to wear.
Dear Julie, you are indeed that Beautiful Soul !!! There is nothing more beautiful than a life well lived as Alberta . What a wonderful Lady ,Family first . Peace and all Good!
Oh my goodness, so many exciting things happening at Mapperton. I am really looking forward to hearing more about the tapestries and the 18th century gowns. I knew they were special when you showed them and that a certain unnamed museum would be interested as the further you go back in time the less primary source material culture is available.
So sorry to hear about Quackers. Shelby breaking out means that it's time to replace the fence, so I'm happy that you're planning to take the appropriate action. As you continue being stewards of Mapperton, may you first and foremost remember to take care of the most precious parts of Mapperton--yourselves, your kin, and your team.
It is a weekly pleasure watching Julie and Luke, along with their families, keeping us informed of various activities in Mapperton, UK, and Tuscany. I hope that Quakers' friends have moved on beyond their mourning. Such exciting future shows.
It's always wonderful seeing people who have found their purpose. Julie is a beautiful soul and a blessing to mapperton, the family, England and through that to us here in the US. ❤
Very much enjoyed listening to Julie and Luke talk about their plans and interacting with each other. Sounds like there will be lots of exciting things happening at Mapperton. Looking forward to enjoying the unfolding of future developments. As always, many thanks for taking us along.
Would love for you to write a book from your dissertation. The first chapter would be an introduction of Luke and you and relationship with Alberta and why you're writing it. The historical events during her life would be so educational.
If the cafe is closed you could have a coffee truck come in and serve coffee and snacks. I am sure there must be a person in your area who runs one. Love autumnial colour's.
I do enjoy these chats! Julie, I don’t think you know how to wind down!!! Your dissertation sounds fascinating! Your plant sale sounds lovely. It’s fun listening to your plans, looking forward to seeing how your plans evolve and progress.
Julie your cashmere gifts are in fact called wrist warmers, fingerless gloves still have the base of each individual finger, looks as if somebody cut 2/3rd of the fingers off.
Thank you for sharing and seeing your wonderful faces. I am hopeful for your future endeavors and contented you are retaining an optimistic attitudes toward future visitors after the Mappers tragedy, while turning it into an opportunity for wildlife.
Wat zijn jullie toch een heerlijk stel !❤Heerlijk om naar jullie te kijken en luisteren en al het werk dat jullie doen, geweldig!!!Ik krijg er geen genoeg van ,dank jullie !❤❤❤❤
Love when you two pop up and fill my heart ❤️ Quakers is at peace, the culprit will never find it! Unfortunately our world is in a huge shift, and putting our energy into positive, generous and compassionate energies 😊 Your videos have brought up so many wonderful emotions, I cannot thank you two enough for the lovely input ❤
Oh, and awesome that you've gotten a Brother sewing machine! I had to get a new one a few years ago. Still haven't learned all the bells and whistles but it's soooo cool!
Ciao, Luke and Julie! I, too, love these chats in the kitchen and listening to both of you giving us glimpses into each of your plans and upcoming agendas. You are firmly getting more and more coverage on a huge scale, this channel and all the work you both have put into putting Mapperton out there for so many of us is so interesting and educational! I’m so happy we found you on YT and just thank you so much! V & A Museum ?🤔 cheers, you two, from Arizona
Dear Julie, How wonderful to hear about your dissertation. It is a dream of mine to delve into diaries/letters of old to find connection. I can’t wait to see what you share of your writings and discoveries!
Such fun .. I really enjoy this program. It is a completion and great overview of all the others. I must admit I had seen ot of your pronos Julie, especially for American Viscount channel but never Rey watched. I would occasionally dip I to Mappleton Live. Then Nickie and Carlo visited. My interest in Mappleton was sparked and I started making it part of my regular weekly must watch. There are only so many you can find time for after all!
How lovely someone sent you gloves and handmade to boot love them ❤ wish i could sew my mother and grandma were dressmakers but i dont possess the skill mother even made my wedding dress which i still have …., sounds exciting lots going on looking forward to more vlogs thanks for sharing ❤
I’m excited that you are starting to sew and that you were using a Brother machine. Both of my machines, my sewing machine and my embroidery machine, are Brothers and they are the best. I can’t wait to see what you make!
My anger and outrage for your little duck is immense. I’m sure you’ve explained why you didn’t file a police report but the fact that the woman took it upon herself to do what she did is worth a slap in the face if not a fine. She tried to hide what had happened so I doubt she’ll find the decency to come back and apologize. To add to that, can I ask a favor? Julie, can you let your dear husband get a word in edge wise? You do this at times when you’re talking with others, we love you but please let others finish the thoughts and sentences. Please and thank you. Love you guys
For individual opening days, perhaps you could develop a snack wagon stocked with seasonal snacks and drinks that people could buy. That way you wouldn’t need your open the cafe and you could have just one or two people manning for the day. Sheep wagon? Old coach?
My stepfather God rest his soul was an owner of a vacuum cleaner and sewing machine shop, and he swore by the brothers always said that it was the best sewing machine ever
Yep, my Mom and my Hubby bought me a semi fancy Brother for my birthday 16 years ago and it looks as if I just bought it yesterday. It’s only needed a service after I moved 800km and someone had been ruff when moving it and throw out the timing. 😿 since then it’s only needed self service since. They bought this model because it runs without the foot peddle which I cannot use. I love using the button feature because I can control the speed.
Why not see if there is a food truck that would be willing to come and open on limited days in your autumn season, so that can have another draw card apart from your beautiful gardens? It could help out a local business as well as possibly attract more visitors if they have a good following.
Love your new gloves, Julie! I am going on the hunt for a cashmere sweater to make myself a pair! Your dissertation….and, hopefully, a book to follow!!….is going to be amazing! Luke must be so proud of you! Those naughty beavers off to “greener pastures” is so sad. Hopefully, you can find them….or get a replacement pair for your project. Spilling the tea is so much fun to listen to! Such a great idea!! Love from Pennsylvania, USA 💕🌷🐻
I think perhaps the beaver enclosure needs to be large enough to keep them busy as these animals will want to expand their territory if it is too small. I see on one of the conservation sites that enclosures can range from 1/2 kilometer to 20 kilometers with the average being 3. Just a thought that might be the issue. Oh if I were in England I would be at the plant fair, the Christmas fair, walks etc! I will most definitely watch any programming with Luke's Mum. She is a treasure! And Dad too for that matter.
You’re both beautiful souls. All the good and goodwill you engender returns to you in innumerable ways. Lovely to hear about all your doings. I wonder if US residents will be able to catch the BBC production with your Mother next spring? Also, I hope the textile exhibition pans out. Notes on the animals - Percy and, I hope, more beavers are always happy news. Posted elsewhere on your poor duck, and the pond that is something good coming from it. Good luck, Julie on the dissertation! Never a dull moment.
The only thing is that she has a child and I assume that she did it in front of him /her. She should be held accountable and the child needs counseling.
I am excited for your zoom meeting, I hope it goes well🙂 As for Percy the turtle. I could send my Percy the Yorkie to help Luke with legal matters lol Hey the Percy's have to stick together 😂❤
Well done to you both for all your hard work maintaining and restoring Mapperton! I have a question for Julie regarding the transcription of Alberta's letters; do you correct punctuation, spelling, etc. in the transcriptions? I am transcribing my great aunt's letters (received) and am wondering if I should "clean" them up or leave as is?
I love hearing Luke talk about the stone work and the animals. That is so important and I've always been impressed with stone masons and what they can create. That would be a fantastic video. I would love to come visit and get a picture with Luke. I enjoy your back and forth, Julie you interrupt Luke just like I do my husband. I get the same look...lol. In regards to closing in October, have you looked into different fall events, or like a haunted maze or something? That may be more of an America thing maybe. I love touring Newport in the fall and winter, I'm sure your home would be just as magical.
I find the behavior beyond upsetting regarding Quackers. Sociopathic or psychopathic behavior? I hope you will think about reporting this person to the police. I am so sorry for your loss.
Quackers was one of God’s creatures and it’s appalling how the duck died. Is this a reflection of our society now. Enjoyed this episode and catch up. Would love to visit Mapperton one day. 🙏🏼🦆
Sewing is so much fun! I do call it “aw crap sewing”, because I’m always ripping out seams. 🤦🏻♀️ I also have an embroidery machine - a Brother. My sewing machine is a Janome. I would love to get a Bernina, but those are very dear.
Re: opening ing October, by reservation on serrait dates. Depending on the demand, you can decide wether you ope up the cafe on those dates. Or, have some kind of help yourself to coffee and refreshments. Maybe?
I just think it's horrible that someone killed Quackers. I hope you have security cameras mounted throughout the estate. At the onset of this terrible event, I would have mentioned in that initial video that cameras were on and that you were giving the perpetrator the opportunity to come forward before the video was to be released to the police. Maybe that would have helped in this situation.
Maybe in Oct you should have a Harvest Festival and/or haunted house. The Winchester Mystery House here in California does Flashlight tours around Halloween.
Hi, the best of luck Julie. As a lecturer in my previous life do the extra work NOW you'll regret it in the future, your tutor is trying to guide for your best outcome. As for the dogs, I have a phobia of dogs, as has MANY MANY people, we love dogs but their owners just don't put in the work for training etc etc. A suggestion is ban dogs from the main house & estate. Market they're not acommodated for. Have a safe space where dogs can run, do their thing well away from the general public. Seriously getting fed up with dog owners, would you demand to take your other pets cats, gerbils, rabbits, snakes. Rats, goldfish to public areas.😂
The state parks in Florida have a partial honor program. The gates open at 8 but they don't man the ticket office till 10 but you can pay at a kiosk, but not all stop to get a ticket.
Julie, I hope that we'll be able to read your dissertation on Alberta. She was such an interesting woman. Again, so sorry about Quackers. Curious Luke. Can you put a GPS chip on/in the beaver?
You can have them pay prior to coming and seeing the beautiful gardens. I live in the USA and if I lived there in England I know I would really enjoy and pay online
So a question, if you let various of your treasures be on display at say, a museum, do they pay you a small fee for doing so or is it gratis? Just curious! It would be good if they did! Love the enthusiasm of you two for history and the land! Both are subjects I'm really interested in. Restoration of land and buildings is fascinating!
Make a fall spookfest and dress up in costumes, the garden could be decorated or filled with ghosts of the past. Makei it an event to close out the season.
If you remain open in October, you might consider getting some food trucks to come to provide food and hot drinks. Do you have food trucks in the UK? I live in Colorado, USA.

I think it’s a super idea. All for recycling secondhand clothing and this is something I’m interested in looking into.
Yes you are that beautiful soul.
You really have empathy and intelligence to understand her.
Bless you All.

Thanks for the briefer Quackers recap. Yes, the world who's watching knows. Looking forward to your acquisition of the duck redux!
I can't wait to see your UA-cam video on sewing! Hope it's soon. I love to sew! Good luck with it.
Would love for you to write a book from your dissertation. The first chapter would be an introduction of Luke and you and relationship with Alberta and why you're writing it. The historical events during her life would be so educational.
Finger's crossed Julie for possible inclusion in "a quite a big museum in London" exhibition. That museum is my is one of my favorites. Good luck!!
If the cafe is closed you could have a coffee truck come in and serve coffee and snacks. I am sure there must be a person in your area who runs one. Love autumnial colour's.
Hi Julie and Luke, it will be interesting to see your tapestries and the repair work. Have a great visit with your barber on Friday. TTFN
I do enjoy these chats! Julie, I don’t think you know how to wind down!!!
Your dissertation sounds fascinating!
Your plant sale sounds lovely.
It’s fun listening to your plans, looking forward to seeing how your plans evolve and progress.

I just love these little chats! Thank for sharing👍🏻🙂
Glad you like them!
Very much enjoy episodes with you and Luke discussing events!!!
I love this format. It’s so informative! Please keep “spilling the tea” ❤

such a lovely thumbnail of you both, I love the simple smiles from you both❤love from sheboygan, wisconsin
👏🏻
glad to hear Luke also received 'stardust' treatment from a recent guest...thank you for another interesting episode.
My husband would give his right arm for Luke's head of hair! Lol.
Blessings for the new way forward in the wonderful way your family is going to let us all remember the duck quackers.
For individual opening days, perhaps you could develop a snack wagon stocked with seasonal snacks and drinks that people could buy. That way you wouldn’t need your open the cafe and you could have just one or two people manning for the day. Sheep wagon? Old coach?
Good idea
Thanks for filling my cup Luke & Julie 🍵 Enjoyed very much here in Michigan USA 🇺🇸 😀 😊 💕
Really enjoy your discussions!!
i love you guys...and luke is so STINKIN' with tousled blond locks ... 💚💚 RIP sweet quackers 🦆🦆🦆
Agreed. So sad about your feathered friend Quackers.😢 Never easy to lose a “pet”😮😮😮 4:37
I made hot water bottle covers from old an old angora jumper. Made hole covers with crochet flowers for the moth holes on my knitted gloves.
Wishing you both every success with your new endeavours!
Truly looking forward to your work on Alberta’s journal. You both are beautiful souls (kind and informative) thank you.
I'm glad you're getting more media coverage!! You're looking good...even with wild hair!! Lol😊😊
Yes, most of the people who visit gardens are honest...then, there's also that lady who strangled Quackers because she hadn't restrained her dog.😢
Julie, you will be spending the rest of your life writing about Alberta. The family is blessed to have Alberta's writings.
I am excited for your zoom meeting, I hope it goes well🙂 As for Percy the turtle. I could send my Percy the Yorkie to help Luke with legal matters lol Hey the Percy's have to stick together 😂❤

I'm sorry to hear about this.

Luke we love your disheveled hair!!!
I felt like a star!⭐️ geez you crack me up Luke! 😂
Great video as usual we love the updates ♥️
I am so sorry. I just heard about Quackers. That’s so sad. Who in the wrong mind would do that.
Oooh!! I need to learn how to make fingerless cashmere gloves. That’s brilliant!!

I hope we will have the opportunity to read your submission too, Julie.
Good idea.
I'd love to see that too!
Oh I hope the dresses visit the museum. It would be nice for you to catch a break and let someone else pay for some cleaning and resturation.
A nice description, a beautifl soul.
I feel like I just saw you in a sun hat it sunny Tuscany & now hear you are like the dead of winter in fingerless gloves! 😂
Loved the chat. New to the channel. Y'all ( from Texas) remind me of Live with Kelly and Mark here in the states, minus the guests. 😂
Kelly & Mark? Those celebrity twits? No way, Julie and Luke are much better.
In this vid, Luke looks very Boris Johnson-esque, but better. And funnier. And nicer.
Hi you all love and huggicates!😊
Julie, I hope that we'll be able to read your dissertation on Alberta. She was such an interesting woman. Again, so sorry about Quackers.
Curious Luke. Can you put a GPS chip on/in the beaver?
You can have them pay prior to coming and seeing the beautiful gardens. I live in the USA and if I lived there in England I know I would really enjoy and pay online
I look forward to meeting julie someday and Luke
So a question, if you let various of your treasures be on display at say, a museum, do they pay you a small fee for doing so or is it gratis? Just curious! It would be good if they did!
Love the enthusiasm of you two for history and the land! Both are subjects I'm really interested in. Restoration of land and buildings is fascinating!
Julie, you sweater is absolutely gorgeous. 😊
Make a fall spookfest and dress up in costumes, the garden could be decorated or filled with ghosts of the past. Makei it an event to close out the season.
I so enjoy your channel!
Thank you so much!
If you remain open in October, you might consider getting some food trucks to come to provide food and hot drinks. Do you have food trucks in the UK? I live in Colorado, USA.
I hope the BBC program is “Gardeners World!”
