My goodness. Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial. I’m in the midst of a 100 day painting challenge. This weeks challenge was waterfalls. This one turned out so pretty in my opinion. Happy to have found your channel. Wishing you the best.
Enjoyed your waterfall painting here, Lois! An approach I've not considered before, as I'm not friends yet with a flat brush. I plan to try this, add it to my "waterfall repertoire!" Can't seem to paint small, but managed to stock up on Saunders fat pads and blocks, so will give it a go. You're quite intrepid with your willingness to stare down any subject. As one of my favorite instructors/artists, Angela Fehr, says: "...it's only paper..." Indeed! After 3 years, one of my favorite pieces was a half sheet waterfall. I look at it lovingly daily, thankful for the occasional success of our soul's tangible evidence of joy. :) Fanna Turano Denver, CO
I love this tutorial. Your explanations are amazing and so clear to understand. I am trying to be “looser” in my paintings which is so much more aesthetically pleasing to the eye than me trying to attempt at my problematic perfectionist approach. 💕👍
You're right. Waterfalls are not easy, but this one turned out great. You're very brave to use lamp black on your rocks, but it worked. This is a very beautiful, loose painting. I love it. :)
Miss Davidson. You are so hard on yourself, The painting is fantastic, The colours are so impressionist, And the brush strokes to, The painting is perfect, I know you are a perfectionist, I do try and copy your style, I always look forward to your tutorials, Many thanks for your time. Bob.
@@LoisDavidsonArt Thank you so much for your Reply, Miss Davidson I feel so humble, For such a great artist has yourself, To just reply to me, I hope I don't embarrass you. With my comment. Bob.
Dear Lois, your method of painting with a hake brush has unlocked the enigma of watercolour painting for me. I hate to be fussy and contrived in my work. You have shown me how I can be myself and produce something pleasant.
Lois thanks for your expression showing a brilliant waterfall picture, I am just starting watercolour and have noticed a lot of others use a card or pallet knife to form rocks . Thanks stay safe
Thanks Lois, it was interesting to see a different approach to waterfalls. I've always enjoyed painting them but they can be tricky. Scraping the rocks would have been inappropriate in this particular style, so you did well not to. Great limited palette.
Unsure of your other YT devotees, but perhaps sometime while painting, you'll disclose how wc painting found you, your style, your paper & paint choices, etc., all the nosey stuff hopefuls like me strive to learn! Always enjoy your wet, brave, large pieces, as I began with an artist who taught us by throwing us into the deep end, use huge brushes, lots of water, large (full 22x30 sheets or half sheets) papers. I struggle 65% of the time, but was 99% three years ago. I am too stubborn to give up! :) Fanna Turano
Beautiful painting. You make it look easy, but I know better. A small spray bottle would have helped on the paint you wanted to run down the fall. It gives it a misty look. Rick Surowicz uses it on waterfalls.

That was a fun one to paint!
Great painting, like the simplicity of the brush strokes.
Miss Davidson, Thanks a lot for this brilliant waterfall..It gave lot of insights!

Love this!! Can't wait to try. Reminds me of a Seattle visit to Saquammi Falls!!!
A lovely piece of work. Thank you

Thanks Barbara, I didn't even think about scraping the rocks here, it didn't seem necessary.
