I think Hayden is a GREAT actor. Even George Lucas said, that he loved working with him because he handled every situation really well, he was hardworking and he always understood and did everything exactly how George wanted it. I don't think anyone else would be better for his role, but hey, you can't make everyone like you, can you?

Considering the dialogue was pretty awful, I think he did quite well despite having that disadvantage, I mean the script had some lines that were cringe-worthy - but even physically, he had enough of a facial resemblance (to me) to Mark Hamill (Luke) that Christiansen worked out nicely in a lot of ways.

Hayden has some insecurities in Episode II, even though he is great still. But he is completely flawless in Episode III, which I still rank as the best of the entire saga.
Hayden was so amazing, balancing between good and evil in this very complex way, which many young actors can do that.
The ending of Episode III alone, is enough to make it the best ever I think -it's so sad and epic at the same time :o

Let's be fair to Hayden here, the biggest problem with the prequels wasn't the acting, it was the way the dialog was written. If the dialog was written way, WAY better I don't think the prequels would have gotten half the shit they get from the fanboys. Even the best actors and actresses can only do so much with a bad script.
I thought the prequels were descent when u rewatch the 4 5 6 u can pick plot holes and bad dialog in them to example ( I'm Luke Skywalker and I'm here to rescue you)

i always liked that line.. kinda points out the naive side of luke. like he's yet not aware of what obstacles he will eventually have to face in the future.
You know, I've always been curious because almost everyone says this, but why were his lines sooo bad as people say they are? What about them is bad? Which lines in particular are bad? The only "bad" lines I can think of are: "I'm haunted by the kiss that you should never have given me. My heart is beating... hoping that kiss will not become a scar. You are in my very soul, tormenting me..." and, of course, the famous, "I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like here. Here everything is soft and smooth." But that's pretty much it. If you could cite specific examples, then explain why they are so bad, and then provide possible alternative lines, then I'd appreciate that.

Almost every exchange with Padme like ''You're so beautiful-That's cause I'm so in love-No,it's because I'm so in love with you- So love has blinded you?'' Ugh, so freaking lame!
So yeah,the writting was awful and his voice and acting didn't help.
Proof of that is that in the latin spanish dub the voice actor had a bit deeper voice and wasn't as monotone as Hayden, and even with lines as stupid as those above Anakin came off as a badass.

Super sad when the sword coordinator says “ I think Hayden is one of the best young actors of this generation and we will be seeing a lot more of him” then he totally dissapeared a few years after mostly it was his choice tho

I always liked Hayden. I enjoyed him as young Skywalker. This was one of my favorite webisodes.
I LOVE Hayden in these movies and I think he was brilliant. The prequels are incredible and I wish people would stop hating on them. People didn't hate them when they were first released in theaters.
I think he played the part amazingly and its a shame we haven't seen more from him. It's like actors who have their first big part in a star wars film never get other big parts after.

I think Hayden was a good choice for Anakin, his expressions, the emotions and him trying to resist the dark side for Padme and the Jedi's sake. My only problem was just his dialogue, if we was just a bit more chill and not so melodramatic, but I can see where it comes from considering his childhood.

I first saw the prequels when I was a kid.Watching them now again made me realise he was MAGNIFICENT!you can almost feel all his confused feelings and anger inside you when you see him so great he is!
Hayden was perfect for this role, hands down. He will ALWAYS be remembered as Anakin.

For gods sake guys Hayden was not whiny at all and if he was its OK by me its nice to see a little emotion in men. I don't like men that are like stones and don't feel anything. Also the way that Anakin's charachter was directed was the reason I fell so much in love with him

What an actor! He was amazing as Anakin and Vader. I wonder if we'll ever see him again.
Whoever thought that Hayden did a bad job didn't understand the character of Anakin. He's suppoused to be awkward and weird: He's living the worst of two different lives. And when he finally does confront Obi Wan on Mustafar, his fears and worries reach their climax, resulting in a performance filled with fear and tragedy. I can't imagine any actor but Hayden pulling off this character, I really can't.
"There's always this other side of you saying 'WHAT am I DOING'". THAT's why Star Wars is the best story. Conflict everywhere, even within the characters. Behind their faces, it comes out.
Episode III was the best in the star wars trilogy xD

I completely agree with you- his character was meant to be playful but dark. He captured that perfectly. Natialie Portman however was irreplaceable- she gave Padme such life and likeability that she really stood on her own as a character instead of Anakin's wife. The prequels were so tragic and emotional- I honestly enjoyed them more than the originals.
I happen to have this REALLY important quote I keep lying around which ties to this. It is SO important to me and relates to why I don't want to get my Heart Broken. Here it is:

I think that we can all finally say that Heyden Christiansen was not the problem with the prequel trilogy... I happen to think that he did a good job, considering the massacre of the dialogue provided. Had the actors been given justice and had they been provided scripts that actually held weight, the movies would have been phenomenal, and Hayden would be revered for his role. But, sadly, George Lucas got carried away and essentially ruined that chance. Quite a shame, really.
it's funny to me, to read all the comments about Hayden haters, and I go down the list and read everything, and I see way More people who actually loved him. which I agree with, and I've heard alot of people say he was whiny in episode 2, but if you think about it, of course the person who ultimately becomes the power mad super bully of the Galaxy, would be someone who is trying to over compensate for their personal inadequacies they used to have, by using their new found power. of course he was whiny and seen as kind of an awkward bitch, who else would become Darth Vader? you rock Hayden!!!! one of my favorite actors, same with Ewan.
Actually, I think he is a very good actor . . . and the perfect young Anakin Skywalker.
Hayden is absolutely not the worst actor ever. There have been many great actors that he doesn't even come close to, but he is the future of this generation's movie actors, and that is something to be proud of.

I like Hayden in some of the movies he has played. He has that actual sense of darkness in him. The look he gives mirrors it perfectly. The seriousness, anger, hate. Its all there naturally to him. I think he is not as bad as people want him to be. I give him respect for his roles in these films.
I love how they played the part of the soundtrack that plays when Vader and Luke fights in episode 6 at the end.
....I would say something about George Lucas...but he gave like 4 billion dollars to Charity after selling the rights to Disney....

@spritelybird my friend you may be correct on directors needing to trust their actors, but george here is very specific on how he wants certain lines done, and its a director's job to do such

I remember seeing an interview in which Carrie Fisher said that she was always trying to impress GL and that she was worried he might get rid of her. I guess she was talking about when they were filming the first one.

Its not often you come across a positiv view on the prequels, i agree alot of the things you are saying and you are pretty brave writing stuff like this, especially on you tube.
he did a solid job. like some of the writing was lame but i give him major props for the work and time he put in this.

I agree. Everyone hates the prequels, but I really like them and the message that when we try to protect what we love, we might end up destroying it and becoming something that we don't want to be, like you said. They actually did the same concept in a later book series were Jacen Solo, (Leia and Han's son) Has a dream that his daughter is willingly standing at the side of Sith Lord, so he goes off to try to prevent this from happening and ends up turning to the dark side himself along the way.
I think that it's completely on track for how Vader turned to the Dark Side. After all, he wasn't always the bad-ass Darth Vader. Vader practically said that himself when he said that the name "Anakin Skywalker" had no meaning to him - obviously because Anakin had emotions that Vader would find cripling. Something tragic obviously happened to make Anakin turn into Vader in the first place. It started with Padme (he still felt regret), but Obi-Wan made him snap and turn him into the real Vader.

i think both Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen were great in the Star Wars movies. I really don't understand the hate towards Hayden, i think he did such an amazing job, showing us the transformation of Anakin to Darth Vader, he played the part so well, his verbal, and even his non-verbal expressions were exactly right. haters gonna hate, i say.
I believe I love a film even more when the actors are actually taking the time to learn these real things such as swordfighting and martial arts...simply doing their own stunts is one of the best parts of an action film such as this =^_^=

@12skolvikings how was he bad and evil from the start? His passion for Padme and his mother turned him to the dark side when he lost his mother and felt he was losing Padme. The dark side then poisoned his mind almost entirely and the death of Padme made him a full Sith
The big issue that no one seems to catch onto (except for us fans) is that it wasn't *just* the Sith adapting for the times. The Jedi Order is just as responsible for things horribly wrong in Ep. 3. By being stagnant and still following the same damn Jedi Code (which is a BS code if you ask me), they helped create a lot of problems. And even in towards the end, Obi-Wan and Yoda seemed unable, or rather *unwilling* to admit that in the original trilogy, which is stupid.
I agree he is a great actor and he wouldn't be good with words because he's confused he doesn't understand what's happening once Anakin becomes Vader he understands everything a lot better he knows what he has done suck it up and except the fact that you couldn't have done better.
@Warriorcats64 very true, but frankly, i just fast-forwarded past those scenes. but sometimes i watched them to watch Hayden, because, after all, I'm a girl, and no one can deny his good looks (or resist them for that matter). idk, when I watched the movies I barely even understood/cared about even the storyline so i just zoned out when I wanted to...but thats just me
Lucas seems like such an obnoxious director. He shouldn't have to review entire plots to Hayden, the poor guy has had to read this god awful script over and over again to memorize lines. Hayden Christiansen is not the problem with these movies. Especially when you consider he wasn't even in the worst of them.
@08meggie Oh my goodness, me too! I became a huge fan after this one. And now I find myself on ebay buying a darth vader plush, and a hayden poster type thing. My siblings are still surprised at how fanatic I became after ep.2 and 3 haha. AND no its not wrong to love him! Its like people in everyday life, you love them, but you just don't love the choices they have made.
Um......yeah.....episode 3 was my favorite Star Wars movie, I thought everything about it was amazing! I was 8 years old when it came out and I loved the modern twist on it with the affects!

i think its kind of weird that he returns to the temple telling mace windu that palpatine is a sithlord, than goes back to palpatine, cuts of windus hand, turns to the dark side and 20 minutes later comes back to the temple and kills his friends...in my opinion there should have been more time between his turn to the dark side and the attack of the temple...its like him saying..."See you later guys!" *comes back 30 minutes later* Random Jedi:" oh hey Skywalker!" *kills everyone*

He didn't "die", per se. Obi-Wan managed to become one with the Light Side, so he allowed Vader to take him down. He just passed over before Vader could kill him.
He's still acting, in some pretty big movies too.

I kinda like more Hayden that even Ewan... I mean, Ewan has this cool voice but just looking at his face he is almost emotionless, but Hayden, so much happens in Hayden's face although his voice could sound like bored I don't really think that's a determinant factor in good acting
I think part of the reason the sequel fans (IV, V and VI) are so aggressive in condeming the prequels is that they realize this. The old ones really don't have much on the new ones. Apart from starting it all and some characters like Chewie and Han Solo.
Most people hated the prequels, but they did contribute to more than half of the 25 billion box office(the whole star wars)
