I just bought a bottle of this, after discovering that Glenfarclas is among the few distilleries/brands that doesn't engage in the deceptive practice of adding caramel color to their scotch. The others I know of are Macallan, Glendronach, Glenglassaugh and Bruchladich. After tasting the Glenfarclas 12, I have to say it's my new favorite scotch. It's very mellow and easy-drinking without adding any water or ice. Or as you say, "dangerously sippable" - moreso than the Macallan 12 double-oak or the Glendronach 12. I'll have to pick up a bottle of the Glenfarclas 15 to see how it compares to the Glendronach 15 (They're basically the same price).
I'm getting a bottle. Thanks for the review!
Yes....I think I am too
It's become a bit hard to find.
@@bdog5369 I think the 1 liter bottle only available in duty free. Market and the 700ml bottle you can find it quiet often every spirit shop.
Just opened the bottle, going on my second glass, you are spot on again Horst! A very good all day, all around dram! Cheers to 43/46 ABV bottling, that shows respect for us! Another great review, thanks a lot, you really help finding the good ones.
I agree...dangerously good sipping, at a wonderful price point. Currently working on the Glenfarclas 105, I also enjoy that one. Love this family distillery! Great reviews! Prost aus Österreich!
Great review as always. I recently came across a couple of bottles of Family Cask 1972 but wound up selling them . My Scotch blood got the best of me! Watching your review makes me wonder about those beautiful flavors I let slip away.
Was just looking at this whisky, this review swung it. Getting one, thank you.
I just bought a bottle of the 12 year old here in the states. The bottle is brown, not clear. 750 ml. The tasting notes are the same as you read off of your bottle. And everything else seems to be the same. I’m looking forward to opening it.
I have a bottle of the Glenfarclas 25. It's one of my favorite whiskys.
when you have a dram, do you get intense baked apples on the finish? I was tasting mine again a few weeks ago, and couldn't shake that taste (not a bad problem to have).
I really didn't notice. That's not to say it's not there, though. The whole experience is so complex. I'll go back and taste it again. I'm sure I'll find something in this spirit that I didn't taste the first time
I just bought a Glenfarclas 12 yr yesterday after watching your review. Its pretty good stuff. Its my second bottle of Glenfarclas. I started with the 25 yr but don't want to spend that kind of money again. The Glenfarclas 12 tastes very good. Its just short on the finish/complexity. For me the 25 yr is like a $100,000 Mercedes and the 12yr is like a $40,000 Mercedes. Not the same performance but still a Mercedes. Cheers
Try the No 105. Its about 99$ US but is cask strebgth and has loads of flavor. If you liked the 12 yr old, you will like the 105, out you mind the 53% bite.
@@311Nate_Allen I looked now, and it is 300€ investing in Whisky can be good for your wallet
Dangerously purchased thanks to Horst. Thank you! In Canada, $74.95
Finally got a Glenfarclas 12 and you were right Horst! It is awesome!
When Horst does this at 5:58, that tells me I need to buy me a bottle of this.. this weekend👍
It's a really good! It's a "manly" Scotch. Strong on flavor. Intense but not astringent. It gives you "the Vapors" when you drink it. I wish I had Horst's nose for Scotches, I am very jealous of him.
I thought it was very "meh"... very low on the sherry influence... a bit of a metallic taste. I read somewhere they use a lot of 3rd, and 4th fill casks and it shows. I would much rather spend a little more and get a 1l bottle of the Balvenie Triple Cask 12... it's vastly superior to this.
Still it's not like it's bad... but it doesn't come close in quality to the likes of Aberlour 12 (the NCF version), GlenDronach 12, GlenAllachie 12, Balvenie 12 Doublewood, Bunnahabhain 12.
It's worth it if you're going for quantity over quality, but if you look hard enough you can find deals on any of these other superior drams.
With that said, each person has their personal taste, so I'm sure there's someone out there who regards this scotch as their favorite. Cheers
Greetimg from Australia, tryung this whisky after almost a year when I first opened up the bottle and watching 5his review loving it, what I have experienced with Glenfarclas is the more time and breathing I give, I get better taste and aroma. Thanks for this review senior master taster Horst 😁
6:42 I love Horst !!!
hell yes. Horst at his best.
😀
@@bdog5369 Who needs friends, I'll empty it.
Horst, I just love your reviews. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Just finally got access to a bottle. Can’t wait to try it tomorrow evening!
Give me a time machine! Mid-$30s for a liter of this whiskey just makes me envious! Now 700ml bottles are in the $50 range, even on your websites. The market never seems to cut spirit enjoyers a break huh.
Bought this dram recently! Absolutely bliss looking forward to the 2nd of many!
Hi Jon, I'm glad that we enjoying the same bottle. May I ask if your bottle has some floating sediment when you spin it? I'm in Vietnam and I bought 3 bottle, all of them also have sediment. Please can you take a quick check at yours?
Thank you
@@bekemdangiu hi, thanks. As for the sediment I don’t have this but have this with some other vintage bottles I’ve bought. I’ve been informed this is normal and due to either 1) a dry cork or 2) a cork that’s been in contact with the dram constantly (some whiskies kept on its side for extended periods) the rule of thumb is to keep the whisk(e)y upright for as long as possible and on a monthly frequency get the cork moist. As for the taste, it hasn’t affected the ones I bought and it’s harmless :)
@@JonnyCT thank you for the information Jon! 🙏
have never tried this, but I just ordered two bottles (to save on shipping)! Can't wait!
Horst, between Glenfarclas 12 & 15, what one would be more on par with the Christmas Fruit Cake taste?
A pleasure to hear your excellent tastings. I would like to buy a sherry of 12 years, which you recommend, Glenfarcals 12-Macalla Duble cask 12-Glendronach 12. Thanks in advance and greetings from Los Cabos Mexico

I just paid $35 for the 750ML and I couldn't be more pleased! Possibly one of the best i've ever had at this price point.
LUCKY!!! It’s like 80 now
Enjoyed the review. I think including ratings would help viewership, but "dangerously good" certainly seems to be a ringing endorsement! I'll have to check this malt out sometime. :-)
It's not terrible but I will not be replacing my bottle. It's just not on par with some of my other 12yrs like Aberlour 12 NCF, GlenAllachie 12, GlenDronach 12, Bunnahabhain 12, Macallan 12 Sherry Oak... if we're talking about 1l bottles there's the Balvenie 12 triple cask... they all wipe the floor with the GlenFarclas 12.
Using it as a tongue warmer for first pours before pouring something more enjoyable.
I have just bought the 12 year old having never tried it, and am very happy indeed, tho I did try the 105 before this which I enjoyed very much
I have two bottle this.
30 € per bottle.
Super cheap price for qulity..i love all Glenfarclas...
bought myself a bottle! hope I will enjoy it as much as you do ;)
and indeed, as good as you told us!
I've grown to love Glenfarclas over the years and how I wish I could grab some 1 liter bottles for only $30's..... now just a 750 ml is $75 here in my local liquor store.
Hello Good Sir from sunny UK lol
May I ask what is your personal favorite Single Malt Scotch? Regards - Jason Runge (( I am currently making my way through a bottle og Laphroig 10 and also a bottle of Glenmorangie 10) I was looking for some advice on somthing STRONG FRUITY AND SPICEY to try next but only Single Malts pls. Budget under £50 - I have experienced Peat now and looking to try new flavours - I occassionally smoke a pipe as well and tend to go for "English/Scottish tobaccos, and stay away from Virginias Not sure if you smoke Cigars or pipe too?
Try GlenDronach 12, a beast of a 12 yr old. It's very complex... dark fruit, raisins, definitely spicey. Aberlour 12 Non Chillfiltered is pretty good too, but GlenDronach is spicier (and overal better IMHO), I love both. I have a bottle of the Glenfarclas 12 and unless oxidation really changes it, so far I didn't like it very much... they clearly use low quality casks which brings a bit of a metallic flavor. Also the alcohol is not well integrated because the caks maturing the whisky are huge so there's not a lot of contact with the spirit. Worth for quantity over quality IMO.
GlenMorangie 10 is a delicious little simple dram, you taste vanilla, orange and that's it. Laphroaig on the other hand is a complex beast, I love it (not for beginners either, unlike glenmorangie which is a perfect beginner dram).
Try GlenAllachie 12, it's simply wonderful. Not really spicy though. It's currently my favorite 12 year old (and I tried a lot of them).
As an proposition can we get VS battle between Cragganmore 12 and Glenfarclas 12? That would be most interesting!
you're hillarious to watch! love your vids...infotainment at it's best, esp when you give that 'whaa!!! out loud and sing a whiskey's praises.
glenfarclas confuses me: which one in your op offers the best bang for the buck?
I was trying to decide on which whisky that I haven't tried yet to pick for my birthday This great review settles it, Glenfarclas 12 it is!
I just picked up a bottle of this one in my liqour store today, which is little sad though is that i can only get the 12 YO, if I want a older one i have to buy it online from a website on the internet, and then pay a little tax and shipping just to get the bottle, so i think i will stick with the 12 YO :)
Just picked up a bottle for 65 usd last one on the shelf it is a brown bottle wasnt clear like yours, does that mean it is an older bottle? It had dust on it lol
Ohh this is going to be my next one! Can’t wait!
Is this a good sipping whisky or should you pass up on this one and only drink it for special ocassions?
You can do both, but it is more suited to be a good everday dram
@@Whiskycom thanks :)
What is the glass you use for tasting and nosing? The one I have does not have the broad lip on the top.
Good whisky indeed for such a cheap price. Sweet, smooth, with just enough spice and heat.
I've been looking to get a bottle of Glenfarclas due to it being from a little, family-owned distillery. It seems like it's one of the last. Anyone know of any similar Scotish, privately owned, well-known distilleries? Im tired of giving my money to the mega-conglomerates like Beam-Suntory & Daigeo.
I haven't tried this yet but I have tried the Glenfarclas 105. That was a monster.
this has much less heat and more grass/strawberry aroma
I remember trying this whisky in a thumbler, it was quite uneventful. Now that I'm trying it in my glencairn, I can see why. It's a bit subdued on the nose, but it's quite good actually.
Glenfarclas website says the 12 year old is 100% orlosso cask maturation. Cant find any source that says otherwise. So i guess 5:26 is incorrect.
And don't really like sherry aged whiskies.
I agree with your point, but I wonder how they keep the price so low, considering the sherry casks are so expensive these days.
was that an edited break in the review? I've never seen Horst need more than one take.
Glenfarclas 10 or 12 which one is better?
If you can choose between the two, then you should go with the Glenfarclas 12 y.o. It offers more complexity than the 10 y.o.
Horst, between the Glenfarclas 12 and 15, what one tastes more like Christmas Fruit Cake?
How does this Glenfarclas compare to the Balvenie 12 Sherry Cask..?
Glenfarclas 12 is trash compared to any Balvenie I ever tried.
$82 here in Canada...for 750ml bottle..god save our souls...would like to assume its worth it. (roughly 60 something USD, probably tad cheaper in the States)
Here, you Can but it for $68 at the saq Québec.
I wish!!! In BC all whisky is quite overpriced
Isn't it 700ml?
$55 for the 750mm in NY
Was given one, aye min, she an easy drink..very sweet, nothing like a good old school whisky or sweet ganja no mess strains of simple good honest medication..
The glengarioch 12 is a bit less expensive and its bourbon and sherry cask matured.
Better flavor and value for the money imo
it's 700ml vs 1l so there's that. I too think GlenGarioch 12 is better than this (I have both), but I didn't particularly enjoy GlenGarioch either... it has complexity, but there's some flavor in it that don't sit well with me and I can't quite wrap my head around what it is.
Thank you for a highly informative Channel, Horst. A question for your next FAQ #whiskycom #whisky.com -About grain whisky for blends. How long do they typically mature this whisky before it goes into the blend? And a question about columnstills: what makes this so different from a pot still? And how is it possible to do massproduktion with columnstills but not with pot stills?
Kind regards, Marlene

Great review almost tears
Love this stuff
GOD! How can you taste it so appetizing?! :) I want this bottle right now! But in Russia 0/7 bottle costs about 70$
+journey , oh, God, I forgot, it's all because of Dictator Putin, right :( Thank you, man... :(
In my market (NV, USA), a bottle of Glenfarclas 12 is going to set you back at least $60....if not $70. I would be shocked to see it at $30 or even $40. We must have a corrupt system controlled by a idiot dictator as well.
+chris dudis hahaha)
Priviet ! Here in Canada(Québec) it's 68.50$ a 700ml, I juste opened it and Hurst is spot on yet light but full flavour. 43 abv sets it perfectly, no water needed, finish is also suprisingly long!
$50 in DC.
What glass is this?
Our own designed Whisky.com / Whisky.de glass. It is only available via our online shop
Perfect, thank you!@@Whiskycom
@@Whiskycom You guys don't ship to US though, do you?
@@Whiskycom I just went on the website to order a couple but didn't see US as an option for shipping.
I like it myself. Extremely well I might add.
you are very very correct! i love this more than the 15 year old XD
Bought a bottle , worth every Euro.
I TRUST THE TASTE REVIEW OF THE LEGEND.
THANK YOU.
