Watching you work with Betty and Dragline, reminds me of a bunch of retires sitting around talking about the good old days. Thanks for keeping them running so they can share memories with us.
I don’t think Betty even broke a sweat moving the mud pile. She’s a fine old girl, and what a fun way to dredge the pond. The dragline is awesome. Congrats on the purchase of the stumper. The business is growing wonderfully.
You're handling that dragline better & better. Nice getting full buckets now and yay for getting all the controls to work. Nice seeing Betty still working strong and my oh my. That stumper attachment. It's easy to forget just how big that stuff is when watching on a screen. Thanks for sharing, Chris.
Definitely getting a whole lot better on the drag line. Stumping with the 330 is going to be interesting, that stumper looks like it can do some serious damage to tree roots, looking forward to seeing it in action. Hope there’s nothing to much wrong with BETTY, good ole CAT. Thanks for the update sir.
The diesel in your drag line sounds really good and Betty i always like when she’s moving anything and more you get the clutches on the drag line working freely plus more practice you will be having a heck of a good time and the new stumper looks mean I’ll bet it will work awesome too 👍😎🇺🇸NY
Betty is your best girl. She always starts a purring and can really push. Hope she doesn't have a problem. Dragline bringing up a lot of rocks. Happy Sunday.
Two most important tools for my grandpa in his day. A Snap On pliers always in his bib pocket on his leg and a can of oil. There was nothing he owned that wasn’t well oiled every time he used it. Betty sure sounds good when compared to when you first got her! By the way the old girl did a pretty good job pushing that muck out of there…..
Betty is such a wonderfully powerful machine. Chris, you are getting very good at running the dragline. Damn son!. The pond dredgings will make David some rich planting soil.
I don’t think so, I reckon he will eventually replace it with a Volvo so will keep it maintained until the opportunity comes along, and just take the Volvo along to any job he needs a thumb for.
For your straight line cast, what I was taught is to raise the bucket about halfway, and hold the hoist, pull your drag line in then when you release the drag brake and the bucket is swinging out briefly pull up on the hoist winch, this will shorten the pendulum and accelerate the bucket then release the hoist brake, this will increase the distance you can cast without swinging, you might want to tap the drag brake just before the bucket hits the water so the drum doesn't unroll too much and causes your cable to get crossed up which can cut a cable. This whole process goes a lot faster that what it takes to read the description lol....
Hey Chris, you are definitely getting better each time you have a Sunday to play on the dragline. Now once you get her engine running, stop and remember the boom goes up and down too! It will take time. I'm certain you will master this machine when you include all the moving parts in your process. Betty is wonderful and you're right , she's talking to you and something's going too break soon. Good luck and let's hope it's not too expensive to fix.
Considering the fact that you've never operated a dragline before I'd say you're doing very well. Al though It looks like you may need to have Matt come for a visit and give you some pointers to help you improve. I love your videos Chris and look forward to seeing them everyday!
You know what they say in the Navy, if it moves, grease it. If it doesn't move, paint it. It appears that the boom is flexing at that short "extension" near the middle when you are digging. The people want to see you demonstrate the clamshell bucket that you got with the dragline.
I've just finished watching DP's video (just uploaded but filmed on July 3rd...) of him running the cables on his dragline. Between you, Matt & Mike, I'm begining to get a handle on these machines.
I have an idea for a video for you. You should take a video of your new pond before the rains of the hurricane hit your area and then do an after video on Thursday or Friday. Just a thought,it's something that I would like to see. Have a great day Chris!!!
Peaceful farm life even if working heavy machinery - many forms of peace. Always helps to have free moving gears and Betty is hard to beat. That stumper is huge will be great to see it at work.
I'm surprised no one has suggested you lower the boom a little bit. A dragline boom should be no higher than 30 degrees to give it more length to height ratio. I think you'll find it much better.
Graceful covers everything that Chris does with the excavators. The dragline... Not so much. Many years ago, an old dragline operator was convinced that he could teach me how to operate a dragline in a phosphate mine. I proved him wrong and the muck truck still has the dents to prove it...
Hey Chris, Getting Much Better With The Dragline, Practice Makes Perfect!!! P.S. Keep Your Head Down From That Hurricane, Stay Dry And "SAFE" Brother!! Later!!
Well, well, well, I never thought I'd see you looking like an amateur on heavy equipment. But today is the day! When I was a kid, they did some extensive work on and around the river bridge I lived next to. The job took weeks, and I used to watch this machine operate for hours on end. To be honest, it never operated like that. There was never a wasted move. The main thing I see as different is when you dump a bucket, you make it flat again. The operator I was watching would leave the open end down, swing it back around and cast it right back in where he wanted it. He never beached the bucket, but would rather pull it out of the water, open end upward at 15-30 degrees. Then swing to the side, cast the bucket back. Front would swing down, load would spill out right where he intended. When the bucket would start to swing back, he was already starting to swing the boom to keep pace. He adjusted his forward and back reach distances by raising the boom for closer, and lower for further away. Wish I could show you the film strip in my head, but I guess this will have to do. Anyway, thanks for sharing, and I look forward to your adventures with your new machine.
Dragline Dave here. I don't think the model I sent you requires oil! HA! @formhubfar seems to have gathered your channel press about a dragline gift. Curious.... Your oil can made me think of Jack Haley - original Tin Man, Wizard of Oz. Do the levers and linkage under the floorboard need oil? Always great to see Betty in action. I've grown fond of your dragline.
It seems like that is what is shaping up. C&C Equip.(Clint) vs D.P. (Mike) vs Diesel Creek (Matt) vs Letsdig18 (Chris). I'd like to see that dragline competition.
One thing I've found with older machinery, all those linkages only need a little wear on each mating surface and the slop between lever and operation grows! You may find your locks a little worn or maybe old grease and dirt stopping them fully engaging.
That pile of muck didn't look that big until you started pushing on it ,old Betty sounds good and was ready willing and able what a fun Sunday afternoon for you Chris now back on the drag line
Now you're getting the hang of it. It's alot easier with the bucket below track level but once you've mastered that you can move up to level ground with a bit more confidence.
Ok...how many of you, from watching Chris and his "slick" skills, look at excavators now when they see one either on TV/ UA-cam or out in the world. How many look at the side now to see what model number it is, 160/220/330 or a 550...how about a mini. Raise your hand Thanks, Chris, for the new obsession🤣
Stumpen always seemed pretty hard on the 220, always seeming to blow a hose right after doing a bunch. Glad it is gonna get to rest now that it has a big brother to handle it.
nice on the drag line getting better all the time as knowledge and practice comes along Betty still has it man she can shift some dirt / mud then there is the new Stump attachment for the 330 bugger me that has some Big teeth tree ruts don't stand a chance well done thanks for yet another great video i think there will be a thumb on the 330 before long as will need it when you start stumping with it Cheers
This pond is going to be so deep by the time Chris is finished dredging it with the dragline, OSHA will require him to have a safety fence and deep water warning signs around it.
There sure is alot goin on with that ole dragline at the same time mechanically. My grandfather passed on 2 months before I was born but my dad grew up oiling on the dragline that grandaddy operated everyday in the iron ore pits. He was the greaser and oiler and they did both twice a day, everyday. Dad has talked about how grandaddy could run a dragline as smoothly back then as we can an excavator today. Funny how once something gets into the lineage of a family, it remains for generations. I'm not to afraid to admit that they were a different breed of men back then but they had to be.
That STUMPER mean as heck, ! I've wondered if you found anything while digging, hopefully nothing SCARY!!! Very much appreciated you stopping to move camera, when hooking up STUMPER, DRAGLINE is still cool!!!! Thanks Chris!!!
So Chris have you seen your little alligator 🐊 around better watch the cattle. I gator hunt when I get tags they just love beef lungs. I just had my prostrate cancer removed thanks for the videos to keep me busy sure miss clearing land and digging. Now got to see how my lung cancer is doing. Be safe out there bud.
Betty did a great job on muck Matt and Sam have been talking about drag line but the only one doing it is you Chris thanks for another enjoyable video great job
Chris, as long as you tinkering with the 22B you might want to try putting some pieces of 1/2" hemp rope between the frictions and the brake pads. I think you'll be amazed at the difference, the hemp has a little oil in it and works wonders. There's a gap between the pads around the drums and frictions takes about a 4" piece of rope for each gap, you have to back off the adjustment to get the rope in their and then readjust them.

It´s been said before but You´re getting better at draglining, it´s nice to get some heat into it, load her up some. And the oil can really is Your friend with these.
The dragline operation consists of levers flinging and cables swinging. It sure can dredge out a lot of mud. Look forward to seeing the new stumper in action.

At least it's kinda holding together for being mud. Looking at it though, it's got a lot of that white gray clay mixed in with it. Probably why the farm out there seems to have random soft spots that Betty has a nack for finding.
Hey Chris I just watched a mini documentary on the BIG MUSKIE worlds largest dragline pretty amazing they can make a piece of equipment that huge ! Keep Rollin Ol Scotty Kansas City

I remember watching an old guy on a drag-line at a local gravel pit and he would loose the brakes on the lines at the end of the swing and he could throw the bucket many yards away.
Betty isn’t scared to get a little muddy!! She’s a working girl!!
Love the old dragline!! 👍
One man's fishing is another man's dippin, draging, dredgin

I can smell that mud half way across the country. No mistaking that pond mud smell.

have a problem. Dragline bringing up a lot of rocks. Happy Sunday.
I don't think those were rocks, just well-compacted sediment. 🙂
It's good to see you actually use the drag line. She's looking great. That stump bucket is a beast. Great video.

I have a feeling Chris will end up putting a little more than 300 hours a year on the Hyundai 😂. Can’t wait to see her power through some stumps 😊
i also say she will have a thumb before long as well
I don’t think so, I reckon he will eventually replace it with a Volvo so will keep it maintained until the opportunity comes along, and just take the Volvo along to any job he needs a thumb for.
@@wallbawden5511I think the same thing. He was very impressed at how well it graded so I feel like he’ll invest in the AMI set up on the 330
Amazing, the oil on the controls has made a big difference. you are much improved operating the drag line in this video!!
I think the new excavator will get used more hours than was initially thought…. Congratulations on growing your fleet.

Peaceful farm life even if working heavy machinery - many forms of peace. Always helps to have free moving gears and Betty is hard to beat. That stumper is huge will be great to see it at work.

Chris great video, the dragline is a machine that looks like a lot of work with a lot of satatsfaction once you master it! Thanks for sharing! Kevin
Hi Chris. Love watching you work with Betty. She may be slow but the weight of material she moves is remarkable. ❤
A whole fleet photo session would look pretty dope with Hyundai and the Drag in the mix
It would be cool but I don't think they will ever all be at the same place
Fluid film works awesome for keeping them linkages nice and lubricated. I use it on the winch dogs on our boats.
