As I've heard it told ( never worked or lived on a farm ) the one truth of all farms, no matter the size or how many workers there are....there's always more work that needs to be done
As far as I've worked out, that creek makes it ways to the sea via a couple of reservoirs then the NEUSE River. Kinda cool that the water in the front ponds could eventually make it to the sea.
A peaceful place for thoughts and rejuvenation after a busy daylight to dark few weeks is good for the human spirit, especially when it is on your own land. Nice to work in the shade too.
That looks and will drain so much better. My OCD is acting up. I'd be tempted to get rid of anything standing less than two inches in diameter and mulch the entire area. The ferns would grow back and it would be a very nice place to have a quiet sit.
All those piles will get to him one of these days he'll be in there cleaning it all out eventually, we all know that. If he wasn't slightly OCD himself he would not have the business that he has. That's what makes him and his business successful.
I know it feels good to have the know how and the equipment to do what needs to be done around the farm and not worry about trying to find someone to do it .
That road through the woods reminds me of one my dad built in Ohio when I was a kid. Built a little camping area back there with log seats and a fire circle, was pretty awesome for a cookout.
The pond is looking awesome Chris. Looks like a 10 pound bass could jump at any moment…lol. There’s nothing like the gratification of working on your property. Great video.
Once again, I am so fascinated and drawn by your videos that time shoots by. I was thinking, if I or almost anyone else did this (other than removing brush from the ditch) we'd probably make it worse. With your skill and experience in grading, building ditches, and draining wet areas, you've improved the area tremendously. Not only your property but your neighbors as well. Thanks, Chris, for sharing your farm with us all.
@@jjMcCartan9686 I agree. I've always felt he was an artist because of how he wants his work to appear. If Chris did work for me, I would have a sign posted that said, Property sculpted to perfection by Chris Guins, Letsdig18.
I know that you want to run one continuous fence like you have done in the past. If you need to access that area in the future you might want to think about a gate just big enough for the mini. Just a thought.
Sure is beautiful in your woods Chris, it must feel so rewarding to walk round your property and know it’s because your hard work and dedication you have this to come home to, you wouldn’t ask for anything but as an operator which follows your channel I really think the company’s like Volvo, caterpillar etc should maybe give you a few filters or windows etc! Because you make a brilliant Ambassador for them, Iv bought because of watching yourself, blessings from 🇬🇧
I always enjoy watching you work on your property as well as all of your job projects. Thanks for sharing Chris! As always, take care, stay safe and God Bless!!!😊
Dang ol hateful dog fennel. Real good that you are taking the time to dig and reroute that creek wash while its dry. You really should leave a few gate spots along there, you will likely be back with a small machine again.
Chris has been watching beavers too much. Here he is building berms out of sticks and dirt. Pretty much what beavers been doing for millennia. Might not last a hundred years like concrete, but it is free so it works for this. Looking good Chris.
Kinda hard to finally finish this episode with one eye covered from surgury but I wasn't gonna miss Chris working with his mini. Love that little machine and how Chris makes it practically sung for him.
don't know about others but it seams like Chris can get into any of his machines and there just like an extension of his arms and he can pretty much do any thing he wishes to do with them meany years of self teaching and such to get where he is now but all i know is he is a joy to watch him transform ground into a thing of beauty and that's saying a lot for just plain old Dirt Cheers
Another awesome day of working in the woods with Chris as he cleans the debris from the creek bed so necessary for those torrential rains the get ,Do you leave the Brush piles in the woods , for game birds and or rabbits ?
You should put a gate in the fence so you if needed can still access that creek incase lets say a tree falls during a storm and blocks it again, you would still have the ability to take a mini or whatever to clean the mess up.
I see you have a Mimosa tree growing along the pond... they're weeds up here in NJ and pop up everywhere... Nice weeds though especially when they're blooming but have a short life span 20 years around here... That mulcher does a good job....a little different from mine... which has two double cutting edge blades for forward and reverse mode on the thumb switch.
If you keep clearing the creek & filling the low spots like that, your flooding will soon go away - somewhere downstream.😁 Here in West Cumbria, UK, there's nowhere flat enough to hold water for more than a day without a dam.
It’s difficult to see grade by the camera shot the way you can from there, but if you can get a chance, watch this area of the berm during a good rain. You don’t want to prevent runoff from getting to the creek and forcing to run parallel very far. I find it fascinating how streams cut through areas like this from season to season. We had a large woods behind our home in PA when I was growing up and my brother and I spent many a spring and summer damn building and unbuilding for fun and education.
When I used to fish the local streams for small mouth too many years ago, the decent sized creeks could change drastically from just one large rain event. Totally changing their flow, especially if a large tree caused a blockage. The erosion could be massive and encroach on the fences and allow cattle to get out. That is why we got permission, we would always keep and eye on the fences and blockages for them. Helped corral cattle more than a few times.
When you first started mulching the pond bank, I was interested to see that Acacia tree growing there. I have the same type growing in my house garden and it is the messiest bugger of a thing when it starts dropping its dead flowers...mine started out as a 4 inch sprout about 15 years ago and is now about 30 feet high.
I believe it was a Mimosa, a non-native tree originating in Asia. Some people consider them trash trees because they are very messy but I, for one, like the fine textured leaves and the prolific pink flowers ……………………….as long as it’s on someone else’s property!
@@tmscheum Mine is just getting towards the end of its flowering cycle and I've only just come in from getting rid of all the brown, sticky dead flowers which cover the lawn...judging by how many remain on the tree, the exercise will need to be repeated in a couple of days. I would get rid of it, but it was a gift from a special friend and she admires the tree each time she visits.
That should help a lot getting some of those jammed up spots out, hell, that tree make come back you stood back up ?? will have to watch it...lolol...getting ready to rent a Yanmar just like yours for a day, i've got about 5-6 small cedars in a row in our backyard right on the edge of a hill, i'm going to take out and clear that hill on off !! plus it's going to look so much better, and pull that hill down a touch after i clear it. ..hopefully that helps with the flooding in the back 40 there on your place Chris !! Great as always Man, Have a Great Evening, And, On too the Next !!
I think you might want to make a provision for a gate near that creek. If only to get the mini in there to clear blockages in it. Just my opinion... Otherwise, sure looks peaceful in there.
Cool 46th like and fourth to comment. :) Cleaning up a creek is something in BC would be a nightmare, due to regulations. Thank you and have a great day.
Another great video of your farm journey. Not knowing what type of fence you are planning but would it be possible to install a gate or two that would allow equipment access back with the mini or skid steer ? Wishing you and your family a blessed week filled with gentle rains, seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings. Peace brother
if it was my property I would get rid of all the woods. it is so wet back in there that the woods do not allow it to dry. open it all to pasture. stay safe.
You're turning this wet, swampy area into a parkland. Yes... it is peaceful. Well done on what you are doing. BTW... gets some goats in there to get rid of that underbrush for you. They work cheap!
Thanks letsdig18 I am 13 and I have been driving diggers since I was 4 I would love to drive you 5.5 and your big diggers thanks letsdig18 love your content and your 5.5
I've never been a fan of ditching a creek (destabilizing the trees and bank) or preventing it from flooding, as a creek should. I've always preferred a more natural look, even if it's more of a swamp at times.
I often think about what things looked like before all the farming started to take place. The 3 month's it takes with machinery today would take years back then.
Thank you for taking us on another day perfectly executed.
Mini doing a good job cleaning in small areas. Thanks Chris.

I get mesmerized with watching every video Chris. So relaxing and fun seeing you do your thing. Thanks for always bringing us along.
Great Job Mr. Chris! Sure looks nice and tranquil in the woods. Thanks for all your efforts.
Hey Chris, that would make a lovely trout pond… stock a few hundred 6 inch fish and let them grow on, then have some fun catching your supper….
You have a beautiful property with so many great features!
Love videos on your farm and how you do it .
Chris, you continually demonstrate a remarkable work ethic. we do not see that very much anymore ..Always enjoy watching your work
Evening all, thanks again Chris. Looking good 👍
Must feel good working on the new farm before fench goes in and enjoy your day.
That is also a neat small pond with decent water in it.

That little min is powerful !!!
Job well done 👍🏻

Sometimes on your " day / days off " You work harder. Gonna be great with the fencing in .

Listening to the Mini’s hydraulics sound like music. Nice beat/rhythm.
Air drills sound like music too.
Saw you spare the HOLLY tree, Chris. 👍
It’s amazing what a mini can do
I think you should put a gate back there so you can maintenece it if you ever need to in the future

there's a couple roots in there i see , looks like a new creek

Had a fun time finding the boom swing pedal on a yanmar 80 I ran. If you get a chance tell us what that sucker is used for 🤔

Wow, that's a lot of loose wood laying in the creek channel. Kinda looks like an old slash pile.
