Exo ballads just hit different for me. I love them all so much and this song is so beautiful and sweet i cant hate it🥰. If you want to hear chen sing more upbeat songs you have to listen to his Japanese songs 'watch out' and bsides from his polaris album ❤

I was really hoping for the live stage of "lights out" but oh well. This was a really good choice too, as you said it gives you a nostalgic feeling. Chen's voice and how he uses it is just magical ✨

A more upbeat Chen live performance is Watch Out from the CBX Japan tour (each one had a solo song). His vocals are flawless and he’s just as good delivering energy as emotion.

I love CHEN's first two albums, which have these two title tracks, from this video and the previous one.. But his last two albums, "Last Scene" and "Polaris", are like paradise for me ...
i'm not sure why you get a different interpretation of the lyrics. maybe it's a British humor thing? 😂 it's sad that you can't isten to his songs because they're really beautiful & soothing.
The 1st mini album's theme was heartbreak. the 2nd one came to full circle where you fall in love/feeling in love. the 3rd one is just him mixing it up w/ a few upbeat songs since he feels like his discography needs variety. you have to see the album covers. they're very pretty. the latest one he released was the 1st Japanese mini album w/c is completely different because it has more rock/jazz elements. Chen almost always write a song on his albums. he's really a good lyricist. Flower is my favorite b-side/song he wrote. the lyrics is absolutely comforting just like Chen's personality.

The B-sides of his Japanese album has 2 hype songs "free world" and "Break out" but 99% of his songs are ballads. "Hello" and "Last Scene" are even more full of beautiful sadness.
He has 2 unrealesed songs that are in rock style but they are only live "uprising" from EXO'S concert n⁰2 and I think from the EXO-CBX's concert he has another one which I don't remember the name right now.

I love all chen album... reaaaally love it. If i can give u a hint about chen album it will ne like this :
1. 1st mini album "april and a flower" - beautifully heartbreak and sad ballad songs
2. 2nd mini album "dear my dear" - love ballad/pop songs (more brighter and heartwarming)
3. 3rd mini album "last scene" - mixed.. there is a cery sad song (last scene) but there are heartwarming songs too
4. 1st japanese mini album "polaris" - uplifting songs.. more pop rock sound and very bright.. i love it.

I love Chen but I rarely listen to super sad ballads otteoke 😭😂 But “ballad” as a genre in south korea, japan, china is reaaally huge. Chen has a huge stream count from his solo works alone. In some south korean platforms, his total solo streams are higher than for example, NCT group streams. My Chen faves are the B-sides from his latest korean album (Last Scene) - I Don’t Even Mind and Traveler. More uptempo and the use of acoustic guitar and his lower register sounds so good. Fun fact for you guys, it’s Chen that can hit the lowest not in Exo, not our baritone rappers 😊 His range is insane.
Most new or casual listeners only know Chen for his high notes, but many singers can hit crazy high notes. What makes Chen a great singer is how he makes those high notes sound attractive, and how he finishes the notes gracefully or powerfully, with or without vibrato, or however way he wants to as it suits the performance and song; and how he transitions into the next section with control, emotion, variety of styles… what hasn’t been said about Chen vocals?! I was very happy and interested to see him talk about his work on Chen FM (2 videos on Exo official channel for his Last Scene album promotions) where the members do an album listen with him. Chen expressed his desire to not be known as just someone who is good at high notes… and of course the members were quick to jump in and say no, Chen, thats not all you’re good at 😂

Definitely a very different D.O. Than what you will see in the guide.

Kai Divine Rookie Evaluation (2 videos on Exo official channel) where he pretends to be a rookie auditioning for the Exo members! Chanyeol gives him a hard time as usual, D.O. stares at him with loving eyes (Kaisoo forever), Suho and Xiumin making cringey dad jokes as usual… Chen keeping everything on track, maknae being maknae, Baekhyun being Baekhyun… It’s so freaking hilarious!! You will love it

I definitely prefer more upbeat songs to ballads as well, but I'm not necessarily adverse to them. It's hard for me to not enjoy Chen's ballads though.
We have to understand CHEN, he released the first two albums when he was deeply in love , at the time he released "Shall We?" and the second album, he just founf out that he will become a father 😊

He took farewell from a previous relationship (the girl married before him) , that's why the korean fans were surprised when he announced his marriage, many thought it's the same girl, but it was a new love. So, don't tell me that he doesn't sing from his heart, when he often writes the lyrics of his songs !

@bella11110 first, I didn't mention which song was written by him, second, he had a few songs that he couldn't put on the second album, but he liked it and kept it for the third one, he likes love songs in general, specifically ballads.
I didn't want to dig into his life and break his privacy, but I had to "defend " him by explaining his songs choice , it wasn't easy for him to have some fans going against his private life

I totally disagree with the assessment of the lyrics. I think it's saying let's stay together. We're happy we don't have anything in particular to do, but let's be together what ever we decide. It could also be a euphemism for let's spend our first night together.
