Tornado Obliterates Wind Turbines

- Window turbines in Iowa, some 250-feet tall, were snapped like matchsticks by a devastating tornado. One turbine caught fire when it hit the ground, and the thick, black, belching smoke could be seen for miles. The power-generating devices cost $2 million a piece. The nearby town of Greenfield took a direct hit, and the damage was almost unimaginable. Authorities reported fatalities from the severe weather.
The irony. The force that powers and keeps them operating also destroys them.
They aren't powered by tornadoes 😂.....
@@lolafairchild88wind
@@lolafairchild88Tornado is a vortex of wind. Wind powers turbines. Not that hard to comprehend lol.
Wind does wear them down over 2 decades so you need to replace them
Mother nature always wins
As an Iowa Native, the destruction tornadoes leave behind is even more humbling in person. Prayers and positivity to everyone there!
So nice to see the happy face on the dog!
It really is 🥹
Always love these dog stories happens alot
They tried to save the planet but the planet didn’t want to be saved…
OMG 😂😂😂
Truth is mother nature is your landlord and if you don’t take care of her property she will kick you out
I'm surprised that closet in the torn up house is intact
Tornadoes do leave bizarre damage behind
That’s why if you don’t have a tornado shelter, you’re only option would be to coop up in a central location inside a house which would usually be the closet.
Looks like a upside down cigarette 🚬
Just imagine a tornado dropping some exploding electric cars on top of you.
Prayers for all those affected. That storm looked insane!!
Iowa is a very eerie state.
How so any good srorys
This was from the greenfield EF4 (Preliminary Rating). Already about 30 INJ. And 5 FATAL. Already
Why do people live in areas like this where tornados happen often. I don't get it.
"Tornado Alley" has shifted, isn't where it was for decades and decades and most importantly, a tornado can develop ANYWHERE! Every state in the U.S. has something; Flash floods from 1" of rainfall, blizzards, downpours of 12" or more of rain, hurricanes, Derechos, earthquakes and lightening/hail storms. Nowhere is safe from Mother Nature!
With that mindset we would not build anywhere hurricanes, wildfire or earthquakes hit. Doesn’t leave much land to live on.
@@Independent7274That’s very true. I’m in the UK and thankfully we don’t get any of that apart from floods near coastal areas.
Lottery odds of being hit by one.
@@malicahamiltonUK gets quite a bit of tornadoes.
This years a bad year for iowa

Iowa has had 81 tornados this year so far. I've watch livesteams of storm chaces come up on just destoryed towns and seeking to help those hurt. It will take your breath away. But there also photos of cars lined up on small highway, waiting to be let in to help with clean up. Small communities survive together.
Up here in southern Wisconsin we didn't get a tornado like this(thank goodness) but we did get wind speeds clocked in at 90 to 100mph.
I'm from the Virgin Islands where we have hurricanes so I could kind of understand what they're going through😮
It’s looking like a war zone

Those windmills were like we not going to fall we can’t fall and all of a sudden how did we fall?
God Be With Those people of Iowa
Thought those turbines were supposed to collect all that wind speed?
Only thing to survive in that town was Casey's
Must have been mind blowing
There was at least one point before it collapsed where that wind turbine was cranking out crazy power
Lmao.👍
I live in Guthrie Country, slightly North of Greenfield, I just feel bad
Yep, that there proves that it is not a good idea to build Wind Turbines in Tornado Prone Regions.
Or at all ( hurricanes, fires floods etc
Green energy requires a ton of oil and fossil fuels.
They should build concrete houses, or brick / metal houses. Now who knows how strong Tornadoes can lift but atleast you can first head to safety and just hope your house was heavy enough to withstand the wind. If it leads to a basically a flying house one day then nvm. Just move out 😂🤦♂️..
Wow
The tornado is smart Becuase it knows heat will strenthin the storm😮
I’m going to Iowa in a month, wish me luck boys.
Good luck
It vary rare to get hit by one trust me lived in iowa for 14 years never even saw one still hear btw
Get a place with a basement

Greenfield was almost turned back into a field.
It’s ok, that’s green new deal smoke.
I believe I've said this a year ago. Wait until the wind knocks down those thing and hail destroys the Solar panals.
Wait till the wind starts knocking down houses and schools and stores... oh wait...
Now talk about the 1000 gallons of gear oil that spilled from them. Oh the humanity...
Each turbine holds 50- 60 gallons each.
Conservatives getting mad at things they make up
Their Going to need new turbines
Or I don't know stop building these damn things
Dang
What a mess
So much for “green energy”
Well this is a game changer
Wow 😳😩🤦🌪️
Irony much?

Just to put into perspective the damage of the town the size is about 3 football fields
This reminds me of the twisters trailer

At least the birds will be safe.

Just before they were blown down they were generating 400 megawatts. Not great, not terrible
I can tell you know a lot about what you're talking about bud
What was this rated?
So far ef3 but definitely could add up there still seeing how much the damage is worth
It was just upgraded from EF 3 to EF 4 with peak winds 175 - 185 mph traveling 44 miles and a width of 1000 yards
@@leslier302 wow that is terrible
Oh, thank you guys for telling me!
did they save that energy??
Not how it works
It’s stored in all those empty oil tanks previously used for everything
This video, Mama scary
This is why I wonder why people live in tornado alley
Lived here my whole life never seen a nado but you can not live somewhere bc of tornado bc a tornado could happen almost anywhere in the us
Serious bad choice of location for wind turbines.....what were they thinking?
You might as well also say those houses were in a bad location. Should we not build anything anymore in the entire mid west because a tornado might destroy it?
Why does God hate renewable energy?
The same tornado tore through a small rural town. Does god hate small rural towns too? I don’t think so maybe you’re a little off on this.
Because it's a damn hoax and all a lie

Hi, I have a photo of this tornado. Is there a way I can contact y’all to send it?
What makes them emit that toxic black smoke!
They're made of fiberglass and plastic.
@@AFloridaSon ok 👍 that explains it. I have never seen one.
Oil. There is thousands of gallons of hydraulic oil and gear oile in each one of those.
God's wrath? That's what citizens from those states say when we get hit with wild fires or earthquakes in California.
Well California is messed up
So what does this mean for all this push to the mandatory electric stuff?
You realize the 60,000 people left without power were using non electric stuff?
@@MindzEntactually the question was a conversation starter to see if we could get a little something going. My late husband was an active-duty Marine from Iowa. His family is there. This devastating what is going on. However, the 62% of the state's power comes from wind turbines. So, just because energy company bills it, doesn't mean that the resource hasn't come from the wind turbines.
Is that the kind of smoke that is good for the environment?
Our prayers to the folks of Greenfield.
It would be informative to see a tally of downed windmills (for the green mongers of course)
Sucks…
The fact these were placed in a known tornado area makes this that more funny.
The illusion of knowledge is far more dangerous than ignorance.

And here lays one of the many problem with depending on alternative energy.
What other sources of energy can survive a tornado? 😂 Your comment makes no sense.
@@tgering95emaw20 coal, nat gas. You know stuff under ground.
@scottlowman.1044 you do realize everything used to harvest those sources is above ground right? If a tornado hits a natural gas plant or a coal plant, do you think they're going to keep harvesting after the plant has been leveled 😆 Come on dude.
@@tgering95emaw20 good luck getting those windmills up and running soon. Think about it🤣

maybe putting turbines in tornado alley aint smart?
That's where the wind is lol
You could say that about beach front property.
Or homes?
@@wikipediafan2515 so that's the only place there's wind? Do you see how stupid that looks to say 💀
Technically wind turbines can withstand winds up to even 200mph. This particular tornado was so intense it wiped them off. Truly unbelievable tornado
I'm just interested in the tornado not some news person running their mouth RPS 111
I press dislike for the situation there should be a button for hope for better
These wind turbines only add to the danger when there is a tornado
Yeah let's hear it for that green energy! 😀 And tornadoes put it on its ass!
Green energy is just like fossil fuels 😮
The fire was caused by the lubricant that keeps the blades spinning, not fossil fuels.
What's the lubricant made of ?
