  • Addressed to a group of young adults in Sacramento on April 30, 2022, this talk starts with the centrality of prayer in the Catholic life, looks at St. Joseph as a model, refutes the lies of the modern secular mentality, discusses the proper Christian use of media (especially the internet), praises the value of silence and the role of discernment in choice of music, suggests the right mentality to have for dating, and presents the glories of marriage, religious life, and priesthood.
    Includes an extensive Q&A that drills into all kinds of stuff. I mention that I will provide a list of music recommendations. Well, here it is! I am certainly not putting all of these items on the same level, or saying that everyone ought to like all of it. Rather, I put these forward as examples of higher-quality music, both art/high/classical and popular/folk. This is only a beginning, but it will give you endless hours of listening adventures! Instead of listing album names I am mostly listing ensembles or individuals; you can find them on Spotify, etc.

    Another good artist: A Boy & His Kite, especially the self-titled album. Some good songs are Wash Me Clean, Heartache is a Cold Place, and Shadowland from the second album.

    Way back in the mists of time, before the Robber Council, the good Sisters taught us that there were three (3) possible vocations, and that each of us were called to either the religious life, the married life, or the single life. To say that no-one is called to the single life seems to fly in the face of this. So, was Sister just whistling in a windstorm?

    • @DrKwasniewski
      @DrKwasniewski  2 роки тому +1

      Actually, the sisters were not quite right. (And that's hardly surprising: they were doing their best but the theological training they received was uneven at best.)
      There is a crucial equivocation on the word "vocation." For almost the whole of Church history it was used only of priesthood and religious life. Then in modern times suddenly marriage was also spoken of as a "vocation." I explain both why this is incorrect and why it arose in this article:
      www.lifesitenews.com/blogs/theres-an-essential-difference-between-the-calling-of-the-laity-and-a-religious-vocation/
      This is also pertinent:

    "Prickly Pair" - I take it that would be the same Prickly Pair as Prickly Pair and the Cactus Chorale?

      I'm afraid I don't have time to try to make a compilation of my own, but this list - taken with a grain of salt - certainly has a lot of my favorite classics on it:
      www.ncregister.com/info/top-100-pro-catholic-movies
      I agree with their advice that parents should always watch something before sharing it with their children (or just letting them watch it by themselves).
      Another list (whose compiler is critical of the Register's list) may be found here:
      www.imdb.com/list/ls027076387/
      It partly overlaps.
      Finally I would say that Ghibli films - with a very few exceptions - are among my favorite. They can be rather strange but they are beautifully made and the stories are deep and rich.

    What do you think of country music?

    • @SnowySpiritRuby
      @SnowySpiritRuby 2 роки тому +2

      Knowing Dr. K, he'd probably need you to define what you mean by "country music" first. Regardless, I'd be interested to hear his answer.

    • @DrKwasniewski
      @DrKwasniewski  2 роки тому +2

      I would make a pretty sharp distinction between older styles like bluegrass and folk ballads, and the newer rockified amped-up country that is very nearly imitating rock and pop music, except that it talks about trucks and farms and stuff.

    PRAYER TO MARY, QUEEN OF THE ANGELS
    [ August Queen of Heaven Prayer ]
    An Indulgence of 500 days.
    (S. C. Ind., July 8, 1908; S. P. Ap., Mar. 28, 1935)
    August Queen of Heaven and Mistress of the Angels, thou who hast received from God the power and the mission to crush the head of Satan: we humbly ask thee to send to us thy heavenly legions so that, under thy command, they may pursue the demons let loose upon the earth, fight them everywhere, vanquish their audacity, and drive them back into the abyss.
    “Who is like unto God?”
    O good and tender Mother, thou shalt ever be our love and our hope.
    O divine Mother, send the Holy Angels to defend us [me] and repel far from us [me] the cruel enemy.
    Holy Angels and Archangels, defend and keep us. Amen.
    THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS PRAYER
    [Please Read]
    The faithful are asked to say this prayer frequently and fervently. It is of great importance given the following remarkable background:
    [1] The prayer was dictated by the Blessed Mother herself to the holy and venerable priest, Fr. Louis-Édouard Cestac, on January 13, 1863 as a means to combat the powers of Hell.
    [2] An exorcism prayer in itself, this is a formidable prayer for “spiritual battle” especially needed for our times when the ravages caused by the fallen angels are everywhere conspicuous and unrelenting.
    [3] It is a prayer approved by the Church: It was recommended to the faithful by Pope Pius IX, and later indulgenced by both Popes Leo XIII and Pius X.
    Note on this Translation
    Prayers of the Auxilium Christianorum - Fr. Chad A Ripperger
    O Mother of Love, Charity and Mercy, O Mother of Prayer and Stigma, O Mother of Immaculate Conception and Graceful and The Lord is with you and Immanuel, O Mary, to
