An updated review for the Singer C430 from Lou’s Kitchen on Inside My Window. After “Merchant Responded” to my last review from Singer's website, I decided to take another look and test drive the C430 - once again. My review is based on the performance and quality of the Singer C430 model and how well it handled different types of fabrics. First, I must say that the auto tension is amazing! No matter what types of fabric used, the auto tension was spot on. No need for me to manually adjust the tension dial for each different type of fabric sewed; the auto tension was always perfect. Utilities and decorated stitches are good, not perfect, but good enough for a novice. To my surprise, the C430 handled cheap thread with very little breakages. Yes, I sewed from one layer to six layers of denim and it was awesome. No issues sewing several layers of denim. The Singer C430 handled denim like a breeze. The Singer auto needle threading is still outdated, “hit & miss” compared to Brother’s auto needle threading. Singer uses their auto threading system in every brand they own or partnership with, Pfaff, Viking or known before as Husqvarna, and Bernette. Singer’s auto threading is always in need of repairs. The bobbin also has not changed. Like other Singer models, the bobbin continues to rattle and make a loud noise during sewing. I also think the feed dog is outdated. The fabric is hard to navigate when sewing on high speed, this is true for all of Singer’s sewing machines. Although, even with minor faults and no user-friendly touch screen, the C430 performed well in the stitch category. C430 is easy to thread and change the bobbin. The amount of utilities and decorated stitches is enough for any project. The C430 has a well built “steel frame” to handle most heavy fabrics. And let’s not forget the awesome auto tension system, well done!

“I still feel the same for the lack of a hard copy manual and how it is difficult to navigate through the LCD screen. Also, no onboard help menu. Yes, I still feel in my opinion Singer has not performed any type of innovation with their sewing machines. Singer needs to innovate now by making their sewing machines more modern with touch screens and cloud ready. Modern technology upgrades and innovation with Singer’s sewing machines may only happen if the current Board Members and CEO resign. For every new Brother sewing machine produced, “Singer models” are lacking years behind in sewing technology. I want to see Singer succeed and see Singer sewing machines updated with technology as compared to their competitors who are well advanced in this field. Singer could be awesome if they start to invest more money into their “Singer brand.” sewing machines. Make the sewing machines with advanced technology that is user friendly!
So, is it worth the $299.99 at Walmart? I think so.
Do I still have the same thoughts for Singer as an overall company, absolutely! But don’t let my opinion about Singer as a company stop you from buying the Singer C430 model. To be safe, add an extended warranty - like for most products.
@Nadia Habbas Nadia, great question! I have a love & hate with Singer. It seems since 2010 Singers computerized sewing machines fail or don’t last long -story short. Either way, Singer will work for some folks or does not. I love Brother! I can’t express enough the quality and craftsmanship brother machines make and performance right to the stitching (my opinion.) That said, Singer C430 I did passed it onto a family member after the review. It wasn’t until the other day I decided to buy another one to do additional videos and keep it. Why, I really do love this sewing machine. I think Singer finally came through with an awesome sewing machine. I know, I can’t believe I’m saying this -yikes!
That said, after researching the Brother SQ9285 vs the Singer C430, you will not be disappointed getting the Singer. Remember, I love Brother, for me to suggest the Singer says something. Yeah, if you can get the Singer C430 tonight or tomorrow -grab it (Order it online to secure your purchase.) I wouldn’t wait too long. I was lucky, Walmart had one on the selves with other low end sewing machines. I just purchased the C430 two days ago -luckily.
If you do get it, get the extended warranty, because it is a Singer. As far as my giveaway to a family member one year ago, Singer is performing! Please don’t hesitate for any additional questions or need more assistance. I will do my best to get back.

What a wonderful review! Thank you so much for taking the time to run this machine for a test drive. I currently have a Singer Simple 2263 and definitely want to upgrade. Your review helped my decision 10-fold. The price is affordable @$299 from Walmart's website , however, they are out of stock. eBay has it selling for $470. $170 more??? I don't think so. I guess I'm waiting. I'm so happy to see others receiving theirs. I'm so jealous!!!!
Mitch, You’re absolutely correct, stay away from those greedy thieves selling over priced Singer C430 on eBay. True, Walmart is out of stock until the virus is let up and China starts shipping products back in to the US. But, a few days ago, SInger website has them in stock but I believe for $100 more. I recommend to call Singer and ask if they will match Walmart’s price at $299.99 and fight for it. If they a Singer rep says no, ask for a supervisor.
If you still can’t get one I will continue to check and let you know if they’re available.

Oh my. I too notice a short stock of sewing machines at my local Walmart, guessing the coronavirus is having effect to limit items not important. If not mistaken, no Singer C430 in stock. I notice Walmart online store does not have C430 in stock -either. This is the model i have it saves me time money, oh the on price it saved on sales price too,... Best so far the threader isnt as great but i found out that the needle it affects the threader but not a deal breaker. It goes through what i put it through with little to no trouble unlike my old machine before that i hand sew a quilt so this is a time saver. My favorite. Oh by the way some repair places wont work on the quantum 9960.?

You had me at self adjusting!
Ive been using this machine for a couple of years now, and have loved it. However, lately lve been having trouble with it holding the tension correctly. I took to a repair shop and pd over $100 to get it fixed. Still acting up. Loopy on the bottom and i can pull the sewn thread out like basting. Any other folks having a similar problem?
Hi Linda, sorry for tension problems you’re having lately with your Singer. More so, spending that amount for repairs the machine should had been fixed. A few thoughts. One, try changing the bobbin by rethread with new thread on mid speed. Make sure the bobbin goes into the bobbin case by holding tail of the thread with your other hand and holding firmly down on the bobbin spool with the other hand. Keep a pressure on the bobbin spool after inserting into the machine -don’t let go. Semi, with a tight pull on the tail, place it around the hook to secure the thread in placed -place the cover back on.
Second, Rethread the upper thread with the pressure foot lifted up. Make sure to hold one end of the thread tail and holding the other part near the spool, so it is tight before you start placing thread in between tension disks. Going around the tension disk thread should be tight and not loosen. Don’t thread the needle yet!! Change your needle. Needle must match the type of fabric you’re sewing on -same for thread. And changing the needle for a fresh one to make sure no damage tip. Once the the tread has been rethread with a new needle, lift pressure foot back down and thread the needle.
Thirdly, If your machine is still causing a problem, change out for a different type of thread. I would say make sure under the needle plate is cleaned, but the repair shop should had taken care of the cleaning before giving sewing machine back to you.
If all fails, bring it back to the repair shop. You should not have to pay additional cost. The machine was service and should be covered by their service maintenance plan -period. Don’t let them charge you again. Bring them samples. Show them what is going on with your samples. Keep the thread, needle, and bobbin thread on the machine. Samples is the fabrics you tried to sew on -take it with you. They can see from the samples what type of material you’re using with thread and needle. As stated in the video, Singer is known to act up. Whereby, it may be just the machine and not you.

@@gnawrot Awesome 👍 I believe she is going to love it. Although I don’t care for much of the new Singer’s sewing machine (As stated in the video) I will omit, the C9920 is fantastic. For the price you paid is awesome! If it used, please take it to a local sewing dealership for inspection -it’s worth the trip and service. If new, inspect the outer box for no broken seals, cords tied by the manufacture, and a sample stitched fabric under the pressure foot. And the manual is online which can be downloaded as a PDF. If anything don’t look normal (new) you may want to reconsider keeping it. Otherwise, I only wish you and yours the very best with the Singer C9920 for years to come😎

As of today, I stopped by my local Walmart to get the refund for the difference in price. The roll back price as of today is $269. Grab it if you can. Can i use this machine for heavy sewing like denim and jeans?
Great question 👍. I wouldn't recommend this for the type of projects you're asking about. Although I demonstrated six layers of denim towards the end of the video, it would not be suitable for large projects and long terms, only for small projects and not consistently working with heavy materials. If you're in need of a good-quality sewing machine based on your question, here are my highly recommended options.
Straight stitch sewing machine design to handle anything you want to sew with.

Your third option is the Husqvarna Viking Sewing and Embroidery machine. The reason for choosing this machine is if you want a variety of stitches compared to a straight stitch sewing machine and prefer a sewing machine instead. Husqvarna Viking is the only brand for home sewers with a semi-industrial 65-pressure point. This means it can go through multiple layers and all types of fabrics, including canvas and leather for a long term of use. Not all Viking models have this 65-pressure point, except for the more expensive machines. The Jade 35 is the least affordable model capable of doing what you want.
3. Husqvarna Viking Jade 35 Sewing and Embroidery Machine

For home consumers, sewing machines from Husqvarna are the only ones that have the patented 65 pressure point to efficiently go through multiple layers. Neither Brother, Janome, Bernette, nor Singer are designed for handling multiple layers or heavy-duty fabrics for a long term. Trust me, regardless of what you may hear from others, those brands will not last if you're going to work with lots of heavy fabrics. Husqvarna Viking offers other sewing or sewing and embroidery machines that will cater to your needs, but the prices are on the higher side. And stay clear from any of the Singers or Brothers HEAVEY DUTY models, they’re NOT! Singer sells many inexpensive heavy duty models claiming to sew through many layers of fabrics. And Brother has two heavy duty models. Both Singer and Brother heavy duty models are mostly plastic inside the housing and will wear faster than an eye can blink. And Singer is known for locking up or tension not working within a few months.
If you love to sew and again, you work with heavy fabrics most of the time may I also recommend a Vintage Sewing machine. Most vintage sewing machines will outlast many of today’s sewing machines. Plus, most Vintage sewing machines will handle any type of fabrics, canvas, and leather. And many of the local shops still have the ability to fix or replace the parts. Parts? Vintage Sewing machines have less parts and no electronics to worry about. Below are a few Vintage sewing machines I would recommend.

You never pay more than $400 for a vintage sewing machine. Again, this is an alternative. These old sewing machines that have been taking care of are built like a tank. And they will last for many more generations to come. If you decide to purchase a vintage sewing machine in excellent condition I recommend to still have it service at your local dealer. Same for any type of use sewing or embroidery machines.
If given the choice and all I mostly do is heavy variations of fabrics it will be a straight stitch sewing machine or vintage , Brother or Juki. Vintage, Singer, Pfaff, Viking, or Brother.

Congratulations! How awesome to hear about the new Singer you just purchased. I’m soooooo happy you’re loving it too!
There isn’t much maintaining the Singer C430. All that is needed for your new sewing machine to function probably is to keep the inside bobbin section free from any dust or accumulated lint using the tread brush that came with the sewing machine. Also, use the dust cover when your not using the Singer. The Singer soft plastic cover will help your new sewing machine from any dust entering into the unit that may cause damage to the computerized board or components.
You don’t need to oil any parts of the sewing machine or do any other types of maintenance. Although, depending how much you use the sewing machine, I highly recommend for you to take the Singer into a local sewing shop every 6 months or once a year for checkup. Your local sewing shop will inspect the sewing machine for lent you can’t see or get to inside the unit, check for alignments, and other inspections that is required by a technician. The cost is between $90 to $150. The cost for having your new or old sewing machine in a shop for checkup is very crucial, if you want to keep the sewing machine working for years to come. Everyone should have their sewing machine inspected by a sewing shop technician regardless of the sewing machine value, inexpensive or not.

Absolutely👍! Singer C430 is a great start for beginners and intermediate. Fact, it is price right at Walmart, $278.95. I haven’t seen C430 priced this low. Link below.
