I like the way you see the results of your experiments, I think this Douglas Adam’s quote applies here: “I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be.”
What makes this channel one of my favorites, is that Ben, continuously presents the viewer with new ideas and experiments. Many of us are looking for creative inspiration and motivation, this channel provides that!
Man, I’m SO glad you did this! I’ve wondered for so long how they would interact but I’ve been hesitant cause most epoxy is out of my “experimental/play” budget. As always great video! I really dish the epilogue too, you should do them whenever it makes sense to do one. Thank you!!!!
I was really surprised the epoxy didn't go all cloudy when the wet concrete was poured onto it. Maybe because it was partially cured? All of the brainstorming at the end really emphasizes how much of an artist you truly are. Great video!
Great work! Just a tip, next time spray a light layer of cooking spray (Pam) inside the glass. It won't affect the concrete and it won't let the resin glue to it.
Nice experiment. I am not into the look of the concrete mixed with epoxy, but now I really want to make something like this with just clear lines. So concrete, different colour of concrete, raisin, then again concrete and another layer of resin and top it off with concrete again. I also like the idea of tilting it. I bet we'll see more of this. Thanks!
I just love the green dye in that concrete mix. It’s stunning and I can see beautiful pavers, table tops, etc. made with that specific green… I just saw their other colors, omg those are stunningly gorgeous and modern yet earthy. Wow, so I’d rather see how to make our own custom concrete pigments than epoxy experiments.
That table leg from bottle idea you have sounds really interesting. Not only are you recycling the glass bottles it gives you a good excuse to drink more 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for sharing Ben. Interesting concept for a good looking candle holder 👍
I was also wondering about this. I’ve poured many Epoxy Granite castings and have an upcoming project where I’m kind of tempted to add concrete to the mix. Back in the world wars when metal was scarce they used straight concrete. Even building concrete ships. Had they mixed epoxy id have to wonder if they’d still be doing it today. I am Curious about its durability. I don’t think id mix it straight up but i wouldn’t mind trying 10-15% in my mix. Might have to try a small mold and see how it takes to a few tests.
Man Ben your design talks after the project are SO valuable. As good as (better than?) the podcast in some ways as far as jus thearing all of your thoughts and seeing them described (so I think the video podcast will be really nice as well!)
Pretty neat! I wonder how the epoxy would react to being poured on setting concrete - probably A LOT of air bubbles. And what would happen if you used epoxy as [part of] the liquid when mixing concrete (what I thought this video would be about) - would it just be a disaster or something interesting?
This is beautiful! thanks for all the tips. Your creation looks like a whole planet. this is so pretty! thanks for the chit chat at the end! this give a lot of ideas.
Amazing video Ben! I love when experimenting leads to discovering new ideas or challenges. Really enjoyed your conversation after making the product, it allows us to understand your creative thought process a bit more.
Epoxy by nature is self leveling. So the reason it really tried to go up was probably that it wasn't even. Epoxy resin is fickle by nature and it can be mixed directly into concrete or plaster, but it will not act the way you think it will.
Bulletproof glass eh. I like the bent glass idea, but I've always wondered if resin would just fill in broken glass. And I still haven't tried but then maybe be able to fix a phone screen or breaks or chips in a windshield? Would it just become clear again??
Really cool experiment Ben I dig the green concrete just looks more pleasant. Do you think you could do an ombre effect with the concrete? Also, one note on coating clear glass with clear epoxy is that it will yellow over time due to UV exposure. Some brands are better than others but ultimately they all yellow over time. There was a guy on UA-cam that did an experiment where he did some thick pour epoxy slabs of various brands of epoxy and exposed them to UV light and showed how quickly they yellowed. Also Alumilite's UA-cam channel has good info on epoxy yellowing, I know they have at least one video dedicated to explaining it.
My dude, pls test your wine bottle and epoxy theory. It would also probably look really cool if you had a textured wine bottle. Anyway, thx for sharing!
What happens if you don't add water to the mix nor let dry, and just mix the concrete with the epoxy and let that cure? I read it is exponentially stronger...
Do you think I could finish my mozaïek which I glued on a table for outside with a mix of cement and epoxy? Would the ceramic tesserae be stronger fastened?
You have some great videos, and thanks for sharing the few DISASTER videos like this waste of time. If you had not shared there maybe have been way too many people wasting their time doing this. Thanks for taking the heat on this one!!!
@@Beruthiel45 very true. Experience is knowledge. I wasnt beind sarcastic in my OP. That is a horrible result for all that trouble, BUT, you do learn a lot in the process of the materials and time, and reaction , etc!
@@jcrefasi1 well, that is very subjective. I wouldnt have that in the house unless I have a 9 year old and they had made it, but.... Again, I think what is learned is EXCELLENT, and can be applied to something else someone likes. Epoxy is not cheap, so make it count. But learning about the materials, and how they will behave is fantastic.
Glass has to be the dumbest material for a mold. Let me just make and handle thousand of glass shards... Was it impossible to find a plastic equivalent?

Spray on the mold release before the concrete. Then no worries about it messing with the concrete/epoxy interface.

Really looks cool especially with the candle.
yes I like the look too!
@@HomeMadeModern Have you made a concrete with orbeez?
I love how you have manufactured something that really looks organic somehow.
I appreciate your talking through the process at the end. This makes your videos more honest and transparent.
Your discussion of your thoughts and expansion of ideas was by far the best part of your video! Well done.
The Jupiter candle holder
yes!
Another amazing job. However I think if you left the glass vase it would be equally spectacular.
Wow, I love this. Very cool ambience with the lit candle. I can’t wait to see your future experiments using glass and epoxy.

This was such a cool project!! Loved the effect you acheived with the concrete and epoxy! 🙌😍🔥
For a clear epoxy you just have to put a new layer over it after sanding, the thickness doesn't matter
3:15 I was afraid I was going to be stuck with this weird jagged layer of glass on it hahahahaha
This channel jumped the shark
Peter brown is dude when it comes to epoxy experimenting
this is a really really creative way to add ambient light! can’t wait to see where you take this technique
Ok, now I’m looking forward to your thrift shop glass ideas.
I definitely shall not try this. I'm not quite material-adventure ready for it. I am, however, grateful to you for showing it.

Years ago someone made a shed using glass bottles and concrete.
A lot of Earthships have walls made like that, but using adobe instead of concrete.... Great way to use recycled materials.
That table leg from bottle idea you have sounds really interesting. Not only are you recycling the glass bottles it gives you a good excuse to drink more 🤣🤣🤣

If you add stainless needles to an epoxy inside the glass legs or fiberglass concrete additive probably make some strong glass reinforcement
You guys always have such creative projects!

Cracked Glass tops are super cool. I remember seeing around the internet something like that with thick tempered glass.
This was was surprisingly nice.

So glad you did this. I've been wonder what would happen with clay and resin. Also what happens when mixing concrete and orbeez.
Cool. Two of my favorite things. Gotta try it
I'm guessing the surface finish on the epoxy would be pretty good if mould release was used 👍
I think so! I will order some different types and try them.

No. He's in the United States.
Definitely a project devired from edibles 😏 Super cool looking object though 🔥
Is that... Coconut modern art?
I thought you'll actually mix concrete and epoxy
Check out Steve McDonald Arts and Craft here on YT. He does all kinds of experiments mixing stuff into resin. You might like what he does.
NOTE TO SELF: *"Boyfriend Proof"* windows with resin
Interesting..
watched your interview with Steve Ramsey dug your approach to work or is it play not much difference
dont breathe glass dust.
Neat you made nice looking garbage
This isn't concrete.... Clearly its cement
Можно было стекло оставить

Чё за херня???
Brrrr ewwww!
Wonder wat will be the effecf if u used glow in the dark powder with resin? Will it glow at night since combined with concrete?
