💥The Carboniferous:
- Remember, during the Devonian period, we talked about the movement of land masses. There were two major continents, Laurasia to the north and Gondwana to the south, which collided at the end of the Devonian, giving rise to a supercontinent: Pangea.
This new supercontinent called Pangea, which means "one land", persisted until the Triassic, in the Secondary Era, some 60 million years later. But the construction of this single land continued during the Carboniferous Era, and here we can clearly see the movement of the continents.
A seemingly infinite expanse. A single immense continent and a vast ocean encircling it on all sides: Panthalassa
The link marking this unification, the suture if you will of these two giant blocks of land, Laurasia and Gondwana, is materialized by mountains.
Here you can see the Hercynian chain. This is the eastern part of this mountainous line. But we can also see the Appalachian and Mauritanian ranges on the western side. They were formed through the collision of North America, belonging to Laurasia, with north-west Africa, belonging to Gondwana.
If you look closely at the position of these mountains and the place of the land masses, you'll see that these mountain ranges are mainly located at the equator. This means that this area enjoys a special climate: hot and humid.
It is at their foot and in the interior basins that the swamp forests that were to become coal seams developed. These are known as coal-bearing forests. But we'll have the opportunity to discover more on the subject later in our journey.
What's important to remember here is the formation of Pangea and the very active orogeny during this period.
Most of Pangea is now assembled, with the exception of North China and Southeast Asia. The shape of Pangea at the end of the Carboniferous is that of a closing C, almost that of a D.
This is a far cry from the position of the continents we know today.
At the time, there were two major oceans, Panthalassa and Paleotethys, located within the C formed by Pangea.
But minor oceans were also formed as the position of land masses evolved.

The bugs come in at 1:11:10 You are welcome. And as far as I remember from Cosmos, it was because of higher levels of oxygene that some bugs got so big.
Iirc it also has to do with higher atmospheric pressures allowing animals to be larger and still function properly, as in greater pressures allowing for larger maximum sizes
ridiculous for a video that has giant insects in the title to last over an hour before they even come up
10 minutes of the hour and a half video was about insects. Thanks for pointing that out before I wasted my time watching it 🤣
I was about to say that too. I skipped to the end.... Just clickbait so we can listen to him narrate on the toilet...
They basically live from the numerous adds revenue they can cramp into those long ass videos, this is definitely click bait.
Oh yea I forgot thats why I even clicked. Im leaving now. 19 minutes in. I gave the video a chance and it failed. lol
The AI voice didn't give away that he's just farming views? The script was probably writen by an AI also.
Last 20 minutes are about insects... The title is basically a lie. Was hoping for an hour of insect fossil lore
It's a shame the fantastic story of evolution culminates in what sounds like AI narration. Totally unbearable. Didn't make it past 15 minutes.
It sounds like he's straining on the toilet while he narrates LOLOLOL!
The video became amazing after 17 minutes….. sorry you missed it…..lol
fantastic story = a flawed theory based on unproven assumptions
@@OldPainlessSR-71 Fantastic story in general - not this one.
@@marcusjones8357like your version was any better
This channel has the best documentaries, thanks!!!
It's like listening to Forest Gump!!! I couldn't figure out why it sounded weird compared to a regular voice.ThankQ.TkEZ>UK
this video is interesting, however it is Miss titled. It says what was the earth like in the age of giant insects, but yet 17:12 into the video, there is still no mention of giant insects. We're still talking about sea life.
Bait and switch. It’s what they do to trick you into watching something you otherwise wouldn’t watch.
The title says what was the EARTH like in the age of the insects. It didn't say What were the Insects like in the earlier days of the Earth... Reading comprehension. That's like saying, what was my house like in the days I lived there? You would think you'd expect me, but the title tells you we're talking about my house.
Oxygen levels were higher. This is the reason why if I remember it correctly
And the point of having the music loud is?
And the point of complaining about free content is?
@jeremyhancock2244 and the point of complaining about complaining is?
@@alexcwagner and the point of being an ass hat is?
everyone calm down and kiss
I couldn't tolerate the weird upspeak artifact on the AI voice. Hire real narrators and editors.
I couldn't agree more.
Although this specific AI voice isn't as intolerable as the one that speaks in 99% of the videos.
Music is way to loud, correct your editing
I dont think it reads comments.
You're complaining about free content. Seems really petty
Very good. Thanks❤
You mean giant arthropods. Not everything with an exoskeleton is an insect.
You help me sleep ty ❤
Absolutely brilliant 😎😎
Its interestyng this video I like it
Horrific realization: not a good video to watch while eating supper.
Remember watching the Jack Black King Kong when the guys are trapped with the prehistoric insects.Really primal terror.
Damn music is way to loud compared to the human voice,
background music has become foreground music. Good interesting video otherwise.
carbon dating having to be recalibrated is a polite way of saying they don't know anything about how old the earth is...
Thanks much, great vid.
You got me pretty excited at the 1:20 TS when you mentioned the head portion of Arthropleura identified it had " two pincers and a very powerful jaw, suggesting a carnivorous diet".
I was of the understanding we have yet to find a head portion for this iconic beastie. If one has been discovered, this is BIG news. Source please?
One hour and ten minutes into the video before they mention insects . The video is only one hour and twenty minutes long 😝
I love the dinosaurs they took at the start from the game Ark: Survival Evolved.
Love the content, music is too loud, and the narrator's weird pronunciation is unbearable.
Let just imagine for a minute if humans grew to be as large as the dinosaurs or larger how big would we be and if we were that large may we have looked different than we do now just a thought
Your thumbnail art has a big arrow pointing at an arachnid. But the lead-in says it's about insects?
🇬🇧 I've always wondered where the vast amounts of water on our planet came from..
Oh I've heard 101 different explanations but none seem to fully take in so many variables
From the formation of the earth like others in our solar system being balls of molten rock & gases
Then.. it seems magically to have all over seas & Pangea
With seas teaming with life..
From where??
Ok I conceed the cooling of the planet & perhaps comets consisting of solid blocks for of ice probably did crash onto earth
But.. huge massive oceans??
No.. it doesn't neatly line up.
Also from amoeba in oceans to
Huge T Rex's ??
Even with millions of years it just doesn't add up.
I once had a professor at university
Who said
To have created the multitudes of species on our planet including mankind
It's akin to visiting a giant junk yard & finding the exact right parts to build a new 747 plane, fully functioning & flyable!
Either we've been lied to for years or the experts simply don't know.
I do know the ancient Vedic literature copied over & over goes back to at least 440,000 yrs ago
& This knowledge speaks of flying machines, astronomical data weve only recently discovered, mathematical computations in almost Quantum levels + mathematical symbols we use now
The speeds of light, Parsecs & nanoseconds & stuff we haven't figured out yet.
This knowledge goes back according to it's own history in the millions of years ago.
Now.. this is why I find explanations of how our oceans evolved + how Dinosaurs existed + why there are millions of types of species on this earth..unexplainable
Thanks
Peace
🇬🇧🙆
Yeah and can the insects become giant again?!!! Or are they in the midst of becoming giant again?!!
To noisy.
if i should go back in time, carboniferous period would be my last choice
thumbnail showing a spider, title calling GIANT INSECTS ?!
Back in the day when fish came out of the sea and turned into other things…. They don’t seem to do that nowadays.
I want some cowbell over the music
The title says what was the EARTH like in the age of the insects. It didn't say What were the Insects like in the earlier days of the Earth... Reading comprehension. That's like saying, what was my house like in the days I lived there? You would think you'd expect me, but the title tells you we're talking about my house. Come on guys!!
why does it sound like every sentence is a question with your inflection? Im guessing this is just an AI generated video?
A spider isn’t an insect
👍👍👍👍🌹
Like having a history lesson from Forest Gump, not sure if this is an AI voice 🤔
That’s an arachnid! Not an insect
Please don't send me back that far, I wont be able to breath the air, I'll die.
Call me braindead all you want I swear to god some of that footage is just ark survival evolved lol. There's a part in the beginning that matches the southwest part of Island
Twenty five minutes in and still no insects. I don’t have millions of years for evolution, where’s the bugs?!
How about insects?
Sharp
wheres the bugs?
That narrator AI voice or whatever is werid
Narration and background music are rarely a good idea and this video is a great example of that. Just don't use background music.
Good comment..
Disagree especially if it's shitty ai voice
Bang on, shit music
It makes it harder to sneak watching.
Not sure exactly where this thought comes from. The music is a bit overbearing, but the layering is super necessary. Just bring the levels down a bit, but I promise you this video is much weirder without the background music.
Me and Jenny were like peas and carrots
In your thumbnail, you say your video is about primordial insects, and illustrate it with a giant spider. Even a fifth-grader knows a spider is not an insect.
There was once giant trees, insects, animals, mammals, why not humans?
titles the video about insects, thumbnail is an arachnid...
lol narrator sounds like someone from love on the spectrum
The title to this video has absolutely nothing to do with what this video is. Thats a shame
fkn commercials every 2 mins.....don't waste your time.
Some people will bit€h about anything
They remind me of those people who "write a book" about why they're leaving social media.
No one cares, just go away 😂
Bro reposted
Hour half to tell us , to long 😠
These ppl have no clue what they are talking bout...1 title since 96? They won title in 96, went back to title game in 97 but lost in OT. Went back to title game and won the championship AGAIN in 98. That's 3 title games in a row. Then 2 more title game appearances in 2012 and 2014. Winning the natty in 2012, and runner up intitle game in 2014. They made 4 final fours since 2010. Going undefeated in 2015 at 38-0 before finally losing their first and only game in a nail biter against Wisconsin in the final four. They have 2 elite 8's after the 2016 season.More wins then ANY other program since 2000 till today. UK still has won more total games then other program in NCAA history. They also have the highest winning percentage of any other team in NCAA history. They have the most all time tournament appearances AND WINS. Most sweet 16's all time, most elite 8's all time etc...
Only school to have 5 different coaches win a national title. 8 total national championship ever. Which is 2nd all time behind UCLA. They have most passionate fanbase in sports period. Fans travel EVERYWHERE just to see them play. They sell out everywhere they go. Kentucky is THE BLUEST OF THE BLUE BLOODS. I'm getting tired of typing, so I'll stop. But these people on TV are so misinformed it's ridiculous. They just say whatever they want without even checking to see if their statements are true or valid. It's a joke.
Sound is annoying, can't finish. Only got five minutes in...
I should think it would be because the radiation and oxygen levels was a lot higher than it is now
Lost me with the excessively loud music and especially when you started altering the pitch at the end of every sentence. Sounds idiotic. Huge mistake. Good luck with your channel
Why does he have to pronounce like a valley girl 😫
Its text to speech
Where the hell did you learn how to end a sentence?
Can't stand the narration😣😣
💤 “..one problem with being fixed is reproduction..” 😂😂😂💤
The instrumental musical background interferes with the narrator. I'm done watching this mess.
tl;dw
Rubbish narration. Get a real person to read the script instead of a bot. This is unwatchable.
Did Forrest Gump narrate this? Sorry but I just can't watch, that voice and the weird tone changes at the end of sentences is weird and annoying, I just can't watch!
I hope everyone 👀 seen the computer generated land mass clearly moved 😳
And I never knew there were Mississippiens way back then🫤
Thumbnail dumbnail.
I fell for the thumbnail! And was very bored, very quickly.
Narrating was so bad I had to stop and comment.. just unbearable to listen to .. the narrating sounds horrible please delete this video and redo the audio I’m begging you
Propaganda
Duel. 1985.
stop the music
Why?
@@Soren27 it's annoying
why the fkn music ?????
