  • Today we review Metro Card Club in Pasig Manila, the Philippines
Manila's largest dedicated poker card room has perhaps the lowest live stakes available in the world, but combined with major multi-day high buy-in tournament extravaganzas.
Manila is Asia's number 1 poker destination, so how does Metro Card Club measure up against the competition?

Hello Crispin ! Thank you very much for the review. If you're staying in Manila for a while I'm hoping you will review 2Ace and Masters as well.
I went to Metro 1 time. I played in the Monday night tournament whose entry fee was about the same as a large cup of Starbucks coffee. Two days later Metro shut down for the pandemic I then moved out to the province so I have yet to return.
My impressions of Metro Card Club were very favorable The players are polite and well behaved. They all appeared to be pure recreational players but the higher stakes games might be different.

When I played at the metro, I endee up playing against the whole table during cash game. It was the whole "foreigner free money" feeding frenzy. it was two other tourist, and the rest of the table were signaling. My friend who was with me, who spoke several dialects told me, their conversations.
Still had a great time playing.

I have played in six other rooms in Manila: Resorts World, Solaire, COD, Okada, Red Dragon (Casino Filipino)and 2AcePoker (All-in/GG). I have not made it to Metro, because it is a hike, but next time I will make it a priority to visit for a little poker tourism.

It changes, I like Metro Card Club in Pasig as shown in this video. Newport World when it's not in a smoking district. Ace card club in Pasay decent too. Okada for the tournaments but the smoking gets to me.

Hey Crispin I'm in the Philippines and the rake is dictated by the government, all rooms have the same rake with the exception of Newport (not sure why they can charge 5%). Youre right the cash game rake is absurd.

i went to resort world manila a couple of years back pre covid and remembered the rake there as being 5%, or has that changed?

@kelvangwee87 still 5%. Only one. Everywhere else is 10% its set by the government.

They refused to start the PLO game even though they were 9 on the list already. My guess is they didn't want to risk breaking up the Hold'em games where everyone was already sitting

I notice Metro Tournaments give future tournament tickets as a prize to the final table. I dont like this because you may not be able to play future tournament. You are then forced to quick sell the ticket at a loss. They are in effect take 2 tournament fees off your one tournament entry.

Funny....crazy to recommend a shopping spree Manila. Hugr import taxes and an additional 12% VAT tax makes anything name brand 2 to 3x more expensive than in US. $60 Nikes are $200 in Makati/Manila. Do not shop here.
