This is the place where we stayed during our visit last December 2019. That’s exactly our hotel we stayed, Ginza Grand Hotel at 10:20 right across Hooters. And Ginza Line G08 station is where we usually hop on going to our destinations around Tokyo. Thanks John for bringing me back to this place.
The Shizuoka Press and Broadcasting Center (built in 1966) is truly unique, it's one of the early works by Kenzo Tange. Thank you for your wonderful streams, I always reminisce about my days in Tokyo, while walking with you:)
Subscribed to you. Enjoy your tours. I’m in Victoria Canada. Was in shimbashi in 1973 first trip to Japan. In the square where the steam locomotive is it was like huge London U.K. marketplace. Stayed at the Imperial hotel. First train ran from shimgashi to Yokohama in 1873 built by the British engineers. Kanda railway museum has original steam locomotive made in England. Rambling but do enjoy your tours, Bryan,
12:48 The Shizuoka Shimbun building was an example of Metabolism, an architectural movement. It's exactly as you said, a "pole and building stuff off the pole"! It was looking at mass manufacturing of modules and a plug in sort of system for housing. A similar building can be found (relatively) nearby and it's also pretty famous, the Nagakin Capsule Tower. However, the demand wasn't there so this style never really took off. Fun fact!
great vid and love the channel (hi from NY!). Love to see walks around varied neighborhoods / giving a slow stroll of different areas a la Tokyo Eye (how I originally found you). Thanks again for the great channels!!
Joan, thank you for nice video. I worked for bank at Shinbashi 30 yeas ago. Many places have changed, but this video reminds me of old nice age , bubble age in economy.
BTW You are (almost) always respectful of women. The Hooters thing was just a little off. Have enjoyed your channel for a long time. So many of your videos have been really interesting depicting history and culture. I appreciate the work you do. Thank you!
I love the old buildings, especially the old Shimbashi Station. I had no idea that it was the original terminus for the railroad in Tokyo back in the day. P.S. The "swish" sound EFX always cracks me up.
Oh the pigeons, they part of the one happy family in that area, I couldn’t locate the cc on this video, love to watch as we work from home still, thanks 👍🏼
The tube probably has stairway or lift and they then have bought ( or leased) the air space above the footpath area, Looks interesting and provides space in the overcrowded area.
This being such a great place to stay hopefully you can do an update when the tourist come back. I mean given what you said about places closing and new buildings popping up.
Isn't there a big (multi-floor) toy store near that Hooters? I walked from that toy shop to Ito-Ya during our first visit to Tokyo - was a decent hike. And I'm used to walking when I was still working in NYC.
Love this place! If anyone ever has a chance. Go to Tokyo. You won't regret it. Maybe a little culture shock the first 24 hours, but just get out and explore. Google Maps will tell you exactly where to go for trains, which stops, etc. So easy to navigate without knowing Japanese.
There used-to an absolutely marvelous publication called THE TOURIST COMPANION. I mean this thing has everything from not-too-popular and inexpensive hotels (how to get around on a limited budget), train maps, vital translations, how to get to the airport, flight schedules (which airlines and their timetables [arrivals and departures]) even various restaurants and dishes, both Japanese and western, etc., etc. It could ONLY be found at SOME HOTELS and near Yurakucho station (one station south of Tokyo MAIN station.).. Has anything replace or supplemented today? Can anyone let me know?
John, actually supporting Hooters isn’t supporting America. The restaurant chain was founded by a Canadian so you’re supporting Canada! That said the concept of Hooters is horribly outdated.
Micheal Wiseman , You are funny , Canadian are supporting Wal-Mart , Costco , Amazon , and thousand of thing founded by American and you are trying to tell him don't support an "out dated" Canadian founded establishment , what kind of neighbor are you ?
I don’t care about that chain HOOTERS!!! If it’s an old traditional ma and pa long standing place Im then concerned John!!! Love these walks!!!! 🏃🏼♂️ and yeh how’s your knee John!!!! ?
Jon, I'm interested how Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs) through the JET Program are adapting. Are Japanese public schools on lockdown? If so, are the ALTs teaching English online? I wonder if you'd be interested in doing a video on that.
Is where the buses start on many routes so they stop, clean - reset and go on the route again. There’s no real depot so they do it in the area fast I guess
?can you pretty-please pin the town&prefecture on map like you do at times as a good visual intro (bc everything looks the same bc I’m not familiar with...locations) ... (No, not talking about tapping on the ‘locator’ bc not interested in vids...)
Actually, I was pretty impressed that pigeon used the pedestrian crossing! 😂
In London they will use the tube to get around. Makes me chuckle everytime I see them do it.😊
@@rubyshoes1032 Hey, I guess if it beats flying... 🤷♂️

There's so much drama between you and the pigeons, John.

They are getting there. Total disrespect for human rules and laws. They’re under the radar now. We’d best keep an eye out.

The eyes are meant to be subliminal depictions of boobs... you know, hooters
Apple Inn, iPhone Out
Pigeons, rats of the sky
Sad? Hooters closure is cause for celebration! Find a new wings spot where women are not demeaned and exploited!
Cream over red bean paste? Unsubscribed.
Does any religion in Japan is some kind of pushy to convert at their religion???
