Love to see the Quickview before the build. Gonna give the ‘lectronics the boot anyhow, so yeah I wish I hadn’t had to buy an RTR to get to the Bugger without spending $1k… but here we are…
Heck yeah so pumped to see the utb18 future content! Great video. I thought the same about this rtr. Such a great out of the box unit for someone wanting to get into the rock crawling. I used the cage for maybe about 5 runs lol now mine is wapped onto an LCG chassis and put on a bug body. Maybe we can get a session in soon!
I got one of these so I can do the V1b Bugger conversion from Spare Time Hobbies. I was originally planning on jumping on that project immediately but this thing is slightly too fun for me to want to pull it apart quite yet. But mine is absolutely destined for major upgrades once I have a little fun with the stock build. Which isn’t to say I didn’t already order a boatload of upgrades, it’s feels like it’s got a lot of potential. Even with a heavy Sand Scorcher body on it.
You are so right it's a toy if it's not fun why have it, seen a bunch of vids put huge tires and a 1000 lbs down low, I know you will canyonfy it and it will be awesome can't wait. as always thanks.
I'm so glad you enjoyed this. I had a feeling being bigger than the usual 18th/24th/micro scale thing, it might do well in the canyon. Looking forward to its future work!
I can't wait to see what all you do to this little guy. I have one myself haven't done anything to besides wheels tires and steering links. Luv mine have a blast with it. Looking forward to the next video. Would love to see the utb tackle mavericks lol. Have a great one.
Man! What about a Mavericks run!!?? This guy needs a score on the death dealer! I’m in the process of receiving parts from ‘round the world to assemble my own couch crawler (trx4m adjacent) which will likely get its own course in the basement for those cold and crappy days.
you can pop the hood from underneath... You can set the remote to 50% for a little easier low speed modulation. love the drag break. It fits between my 1.10 and 1.24 and has the best of both worlds; portability but parts big enough to see, can fit on almost both scale lines. Yes. I think its too expensive for its stock electronics. But, it brings me joy as it fits what I do.
I'm pretty sure the UTB18 is more like 1:12. Definitely not an 18th scale. Scale means less and less for each RTR release... Even the SCX24, while being small, is not a 24th scale. I think most are closer to 20th scale, while the Kyosho Mini Z 4X4, which is quite a bit smaller than the SCX24, is more of an actual 24th scale.
@@CrawlerCanyon exactly right. I have seen videos of the utb18 next to a trx4m, and it's absolutely massive in comparison, and the trx4m is apparently really close to being an actual 18th scale.
I just got a fox version at our local hobby store ! Awesome little rig and a great performer out of the box….even better with mild upgrades. I just ordered another one (green) from Amain….saved $50 compared to my hobby store purchase….$198 shipped with coupon..
I find it easier to keep my spending under control with RTRs than kits. With RTRs I tell myself I can only upgrade what breaks. With kits I always fall down the rabbit hole of getting "the best" of everything right off the bat
I personally would like to see what you could do with the new Element Enduro 12. It obviously needs improvements but at $200 I feel it could be converted to something quite impressive for not alot of money. As always, thanks for the video.
I bought one a while ago. Fiddled with it, put 1.9 rovers with Flubber Stuffers. It does well, but it doesn’t spark joy. It’s planned to be sold on Friday. I lit up when I saw a trx6, lots of joy. That little Capra needs more upgrades that I want to deal with to find that joy. I hope this continues to bring you that spark. Maybe in the future I’ll look at it again.
Long time listener, first time caller. I’m generally new to the hobby (considering maybe a year and a half as still new) and I have to say that the UTB18 is something a large part of me wishes to build with little to no parts of, nor resemblance to what one begins as sooner or later. I went 1/24 RTR then build one using a similar tactic I daydream of now to a 1/10 “Capra” that I have healthy amount of upgrades under. The 1/10 does well and brings joy but it has reached the threshold of upgrades I’m willing to pass since it does so well as is. I feel like it could replace a 1/10 in size but it feels like it’d be a novelty or not taken seriously when doing rough crawls. Gonna sit on my 1/10 for a bit before touching on buying a UTB18 or not.
There are so many upgrades it’s insane I’m running mine with a Flysky 5 after putting in a Furitek system. It’s the single most significant upgrade performance wise so far.
Adding some small rubber bands to the shocks made a huge difference on ours. We did end up going 1.9" 3.85" red label BFG Krawlers. We will be trying 3D inserts in the near future.
Men your opinión redcat everest 10 , the parts is compatible White gen 7 , the price is less the 180 dlrs , the price the truck and parts is similar 1:24 scale is truck subestimed?
I have never looked twice at the Capra or UTB18. They just don't blow my skirt up. I almost didn't even watch this one but I never miss a video. I'm rather entertained by it as it turns out. Will I buy one? No. Not at $250. I'm with you on the $199 being a fair price tag. I'm now really looking forward to see what you do with it.
I've had several scx24 and a trx4m. Got rid of all of them due to lack of use. Not even close to a 1/10 scale. I got one of these last summer, just because. It makes a great travel rig. I use mine a lot. It's not far off from a 10th scale. And I was able to use a set of 1.9 tires I've had for a while. Class 0 proline crawlers, a bit too small for any of my other trucks
Yup, I bought a Trx4m to fool with in the house over the winter and I find it isn't my thing. It sits on the shelf and I use one of my 1/10th crawlers even though they are rather big inside the house.
@@Doug_Morgan I tried the smaller scale stuff a few times. It's just not the same. This thing is small enough to drive in the house, but can hang with any of my 1/10 scale rigs just as well. I do agree with the price tho. $250 is kind of a lot for what you get, considering the element sendero SE is only $50 more. I wish I would've bought that instead, but oh well.
I love mine it looks nothing like the original though I have Club 5 metal body panels 1.9 wheels with 4.1 J Concepts tires & I bunch of Treal upgrades. But the game changer was putting in a Furitek Brushless system & Protek servo it pretty much goes up 1:10 scale lines.
Everyday I hope to see the follow up to this video get posted. I'm dying to know what you ended up doing to it. I bought one as soon as you posted the sale and did a few upgrades that RC Driver Online featured but I want to see what a true specialist does.
I thought it went ok on it's one stock run, but I got it with the sole purpose of buggerizing it and it's great. Just looking for some shocks with more spring options, I just want a bit more support at the rear.
you should look up the ecx temper gen 2 its about the same size and style for about a 100 less when i got mine and i built it up with trx4 axle to kinda be a utb18 clone same 380 motot in it and the utb18 has crappy thin foams
You did it Mr Canyon. Ya broke me. I held out this long without a Mini Capra. Luckily last night I found it on sale, plus a $20 coupon, shipped free.😅 Under $200 to my door!
Absolutely love mine…I’m not a scx24 guy tried it have em. But these are boss! This one just take springs off shocks as pretty killer. And so many upgrades May sport mine but…these don’t get stuck on twigs like the 24
I wish they made a straight axle one, I have a body with a 25cm wheelbase and 20cm width, and it is nearly impossible to get that 20cm width in 10th scale so I dont have to cut a single bit of the fenders, maybe the "utb18" 12th scale helps with that I may end up getting a portal one (even though the portal look isnt really scale)
I purchased one of these a few weeks ago and it was complete garbage straight out of the box. Transmission slipped wouldnt hardly move forward. Axial sent me new transmission gears. And before installing them i checked the truck one last time. Front tires rotated forward and rear tires rotated in reverse at the time trying to move forward with it lol
Not out of the question that Axial (Horizon) moved production of the UTB18 V2 from Taiwan to China, just like they did with the "new" Basecamp. So the QC issues definitely aren't going to get better. Shrinkflation comes in many forms.
@@CrawlerCanyon I have the new scx 10 iii with new body style on order. Hopefully it shows up working correctly 😂. If not I’ll toss them in the garbage and go with another brand lol
There are actually foams inside the tires , they are very thin and soft , I know cos I did boil the tires off to use in beadlock wheels with proper foams
A 1080 ESC fits and I used a 4 channel radiolink Rx R4FGM it fits in the fuel cell at back also used an on/off light switch for the lights if the radio
Anyone want to see two UTB18 builds? One V1B, one true “Unlimited Trail Buggy?” I’m debating throwing some stretched links, Meus portals, wheels/tires, and assorted ‘lectricals back at the stock UTB18 cage. @crawlercanyon Mr. Canyon, what do you think? You up for a double build, or should we stick to the Bugger as planned?
I went a bit off the deep end with my UTB18. I regret it a tad. Brushless with 3.98" Tusks it became a drivetrain destroyer. Then I went down the rabbit hole...TGH trans gears, Dlux unis, under/over drive, brass, servo & link, etc, etc. It's fun, but KISS may have been the better approach.
I've no desire to futz with anything smaller than this-- and the UTB18 is more likely a UTB12, really. Full size servo, can run 3.93", is almost the exact size as a 1/10 MST Jimny.
I would say the same, but the price suddenly dropped to $219, and Amain has a coupon for $20 off of 200... so all of a sudden, the UTB18 is indeed $199.
