This freeware A330 is such a joy, kudos to the dev team and all the contributors. It feels a bit sluggish when turning whilst taxiing on the ground, but i assume its normal for an airplane this size.
It sounds like you are comparing performance data with a A330 CEO. For example the idle descent rate you say should be shallower, but the NEO's engines are much bigger then a CEO, which would increase the drag at idle thrust, increasing the descent rate to maintain 250knts.
All the people yapping about this planes appeal should try recreating an A339 of their own, SOLO, and see how much time and effort it really takes to push something out like this, and for completely free. The least we can do is appreciate this teams work and have some understanding of the difficulties of modding. Great video and I applaud HW for what they’ve gotten done so far, truly a fun one to fly.
Decided to try this one and it is absollutely fantastic! We can see cooperation with FBW, but tablet is even better. Flies really nicely, it is a pleasure. We can feel it is an heavy aircraft. It is close easy as flying A320, but must remember about high energy due to mass, and little bit slower responsitivity. As freeware it is brilliant aircraft.
Thanks for the Video :) You are right, it is an A320 with some mods in an A330 shell. However it is great and a joy to use. At their discord the team of Headwind already posted some progress on their own cockpit and modification of the current 3D cockpit to make it more A330 like in the future.
The biggest points for all the Freeware aircraft close to or in cooperation with FBW is, patience a lot of the systems aren’t there yet and since the whole thing is free there is no definite completion Dates. It was a pretty nice video on the capabilities of the A330 (I’m going to assume -200/-300 since i only heard you are doing type rating for those two) Hype for the A38X
The little orange square on the top of the Doors ECAM page is actually currently linked to the cockpit door lock. Once you lock the cockpit door it turns green

Great review captain, keep in mind you did not load the aircraft. You need to press boarding and refuel button but you just set the values and not activated them. It was basicaly an empty plane that's why you got the weight warnings. Also for the terain you need to run headwind simbridge in the background.
@21:20 you need to click the button with the arrows to apply to payload, your GW was still only 143T. Button could be labeled much clearer imo @31:00 you may need to calibrate your throttles in the EFB I only got halfway through so far but amazing video, thank you
The weight on lower ECAM was wrong all the time because you didn't actually pressed load button in the EFB. And for the TO trim, according the headwind discord, it should be set to 0 until they release proper A330 cockpit (which is in development btw.) with correct CG chart next to trim wheel.
You are comparing against a a330 CEO cockpit not a A330 Neo. Cockpit. Though you are still correct there are differences. One is the single gauge mini pfd on the left hand side of the ECAM is correct, though the placement of the timer is much lower on the panel. Also the APU fire test controls is also correct. Airbus moved it there on the Neo. As mentioned Headwinds already announced their intentions to develop a more prototypical cockpit. That's one big advantage to these freeware developers. History has shown they constantly strive to improve their products. And update them regularly, support like that you never see from pay ware developers.

The point I was trying to make in regards with the Headwinds A330 was based on Statements from Aerospft at the time that they were developing the A330 with the detail to operate it from the left seat including that they weren't even modeling failures, that we shouldn't expect much more functionality then we already had with the Headwinds A330, as it turned out it was much worse then that!

It’s all a matter of expectations. The Headwind A330 isn’t a study level airplane. It’s not designed to be. It’s a freeware plane that gives you a “feel” for flying an A339. For me, I’m just looking to get my feet wet with the A339, so for my purposes, it’s just fine. I am not going to purchase an airplane when this aircraft will do the same thing for no $$. A330 Driver gave us a real sense of what is right with the aircraft and what is not…I don’t think his review to be harsh. It’s an evaluation of this aircraft against what an A330 driver experiences in the real world. I found this a particularly useful video.
I am glad people can enjoy this plane. It is not my thing, but the beauty of FS is that you have options for everyone. I have never understood why people care what other people like or do in this community. Hell, I don’t even care about Captain Sim. If you want to spend the money and you enjoy it, than that’s ok with me and you should enjoy yourself. I cringe when I hear people always complaining about planes like this or even Captain sim. It highlights the snobby culture that I sometimes really dislike about the flight sim community. If you don’t like this plane or any other, than just don’t use it, but we should not complain about the people that do like them. Some people just want to fly a cool looking 777 or a330 even if it’s not real and thats cool with me. I won’t get it, but I understand those who would.

They cockpit of a A320 airplane is the exact looking cockpit in this plane i’ve been in a airbus A320 a long time ago. In the cockpit in this game looks exactly the same. The headwind team do the best they can for a freeware plane for Microsoft flight simulator 2020 the fact they made a airplane for free to use I give them all the credit. They deserves because there’s not a lot of free planes in Microsoft flights simulator 2020 but I do acknowledge them for greatly making a plane that for free it could’ve been made but the fact that they made it for free is extremely wonderful.
Thank you for telling the truth. It's respected freeware however for immersion's sake, it does truly need to be a A330. It's bad how everything is using a recycled 320. I truly hope developers can step up to the plate freeware or pay ware and make MSFS special again. Cheers and blue skies :)

Just out of curiosity, why exactly do you think this plane is better to fly than the Fenix? I've used the a330 off and on for a quite a while and I've always thought the flight dynamics just felt wrong
“As good as it gets”….😂 Sounds like someone that hasn’t been in the Fenix A320. This hobby is just on the edge of a progression in complexity that hasn’t been seen to date. The improvements over the past several years are just the beginning.

I love it, but its tough to actually spend any time in an aircraft that isnt as real as is available. Im sure we will soon enough be retiring some of our beloved payware aircraft as they are replaced with superior developments. Its a great time to be into flight sims
While the Headwind a330 is fantastic for a freeware plane, I have the say the Fenix a320 and the PMDG 737 planes have spoiled me; I can't bring myself to fly anything that isn't close to that level of fidelity.
I hate to complain about anything which is free, but I agree with everything you stated. Overall, it's nothing to be ashamed of if you are someone working on this project; as there are people who are okay with this level of simulation. Also a high quality aircraft simulation isn't exactly an easy endeavor and you are providing some entertainment without cost.
Well at 27.07 it will be clear what is happening at aerosoft and we will probably know more about there A330 status. Very interesting to compare headwind and aerosoft.

If you sit on your seat and you look straight ahead 5:06 it seems to me that the frame on the left is a little bit wide. There is a big dead corner in the normal view. Is this true or only my opinion?
Great video. I’ve been flying the headwind for a long time. Since it came out. It has greatly improved. I agree with you it’s a excellent freeware. We will see what they do with it. Headwind makes a really good reskin of a high fidelity aircraft that already has super similar system to the a330 and makes it free. Captain scam makes a reskin of a really bad plane (old asobo 747) that doesn’t have much in common with the 777 and 767 and charge 30 dollars for the plane and another 5 for liveries. I used to be an Xbox user but a month ago, I switched solely because of stuff like this. We have nothing and have to pay for everything
Hi! I know you posted this video a long time ago but i have a question about the a330 and i think this comment will fit best in the comment section of this video. Since you are a real a330 pilot, i guess you might know, why is the a330 slower compared to other widebody aircraft(cruise speed for other widebodies such as a350, a380, 787 is Mach .85, Mach .84 for 777, while for the a330 and a340 cruise speed is Mach .82)
There are a lot of people complaining here… I think it’s cool. I have never dabbled with an A330 in real life but have with an A320. So this makes it simpler for me 😂
Hi emanuel, I have problems with the fly-by-wire controlls (it is turning rudder left and right too much which results in the plane heavily shaking left and right and also up and down). Did you had problems with that, if so how did you fix it?
I'm pre-TR for the A333/9 and would like something decent to get some preparation & familiarity beforehand. So, what would be better, Headwind or LVFR? Seems the latter is more lavishly detailed but lacks systems functionality & flight dynamics perhaps? HW appears more functional but the business end is an A320.
Honestly, neither of the two. The closest you'll get is the Fenix A320, even though it is an A320. It's still closer to the A330 than any of the "A330s" available for MSFS.
Been looking forward to this. Obviously the cockpit is not right but it’s fun to fly and as you said is free. A lot of systems dont exist. It’s clearly taken a lot work so fair does to the developers contributors
Absolutely, for freeware it's a stunning plane. Obviously measured against freeware standards - heck even low level payware standards, if only it had a correctly looking cockpit. Looking at you, CaptainScam.
A completely informative and fair judgement with clear caveats. I look forward to the further development of this freeware. Standout for me are the immersive feeling I get when when hand flying it, albeit with pitch issues on approach. Well done to Headwind and FBW. Will I buy the pay ware - yes just as I have done with the Fenix, but I still also use the A320 FBW as the comparisons I find interesting. I accept that the products in X-plane also have merit but I simply cannot find the time or finance to run two simulators but we are fortunate to have that option. The goal post we now set for Freeware is spectacular when we consider that the systems and flight models of several hundred million dollar real aircraft are being attempted to be simulated.
@@davidwhite8495Sounds to me like an addon compability issue. Rename your current Community folder, and make a new one. Then do a new, clean install of the A339, from theire installer, into the new Community folder. Don’t use any third party livery. Just the plane. Then try to launch the A339 in the sim. If it works now (it should do), you know that you have a mod in your Community folder, that conflicts with A339. Delete the new Community folder, and rename the old one back. Then you have to pick out addons, one by one, and test, until you find the one that conflicts with the A339. Good luck!! 😊
Hi Emmanuel, you share the same impression I have about this addon. As great as it is for freeware, miles ahead than what we got for FSX, I'm turned off by the "slightly modified" A320 Cockpit which I just can't get past. Hopefully this is addressed in the future but for now I don't use it much. Great video as always.
@@A330DriverQuestion is, is Aerosoft that payware? As I pointed out in the FSElite story, the reviewer states Aerosoft didn't intend the A330 to be study level, it has no failure system, and has no 3D, cockpit,, so you are essentially flying a cockpit. That may not be important to the hard core simmer, but for the general simmer which is the market Aerosoft needs to capture it might be when there is a descent freeware alternative already available. True it maybe not completely prototypical many of the points you point out, while completely valid, Many simmers would but ever have been aware of them unless pointed out by someone like you.As people tend to be visual, they may like to go exploring in back of the cabin during a long flight, but they won't have that luxury on the Aerosoft model. Again may not be an issue to a hard core simmer, but could be a show stopper to a general simmer, when an enjoyable alternative is available. Now had Aerosoft went with a type not modeled in the sim, like an A340 or A350 (Although one is on the way!) they may have increased their customer base! As if a simmer wants one of those models, there would be nowhere else to go.to get one.
in my mcdu on this a330, it says "no simbrief user" how should i solve this? I have fixed the id username, but nothing happens. everything works on the flybywire..? but not on headwind a330.

Hello. Its not A330!!!!This is an A320 FBW disguised as an A330. Big disappointment. They copied and pasted the other plane's settings, but it's not real. LVFR A330 real.!!
This add-on lost me at having an A320 cockpit in an A330 shell. Even for free I couldn't take it as a 330. It's like Captain Sim's 777 which is actually a 747 in a different external model. OK, this is free but still. It needs much work.
regarding the flight model: FBW is tweaked, and tweaked, and tweaked again and under continuous development with multiple updates per week, whereas I can't even remember the last time the Fenix app updated their version.
I had a couple of crashes the latest days as well, since a new update was released the other day. Hopefully the next one will solve it. In any case I’d recommend to get in touch with their support to get some assistance with the issues.
i don't lnow why FBW have taken so long to (not) implement FINAL APP. it's frankly the only major NAV mode that's missing, and it's been months dragging into years, during which time they nailed VNAV in the descent but again, for some reason, not the final RNAV approach. is it really that hard to model?
I honestly still don't understand the appeal of this project. Why is the Headwind getting so much praise? The current external model is not good, the cockpit model is adapted from the Asobo/FBW A320neo model. The systems and avionics, again, are adapted from FBW with few changes. Yes, I'm aware that Headwind have shown some promising features in the works such as custom 3D models, systems etc. So, when you look at it at face value, what has Headwind really brought to the table here? Not much. Did I miss anything? I am genuinely curious as to why this project is receiving so much praise.
Of course, it's far from finished, but they never claimed that. They make it available for free and are constantly improving it. And since it's a freeware product, it takes more time. I support these people who are working on such a project. We have to give them time, it's not as easy as you might think. On the other hand, I don't understand the people who don't do anything for the community, but always complain the most.

@mgking777 Okay, first of all, I too support Headwind in their efforts and hope they are successful in their endeavours. I genuinely think that what they have shown in their Discord is very impressive and I cannot wait to get my hands on the new models and systems. However, I think too much credit is given to them at this point for what basically amounts to a few additions to a massive project by FBW. I'm just sceptical at this point.
@mgking777 Also, I'm not voicing any frustrations with respect to the time it takes to realise their ambitions. I follow many freeware projects closely and am very aware of the challenges and the extend of the work needed.
I think some of the credits, comes from that the people at Headwind, was the first to give us a decent long haul aircraft. Many people, me too, were hungry for flying long haul. Now we know the plane, we love it. We support the team, and the fantastic work they do.

@@Plupx exactly! I just use asymmetrical thrust + lots of brake application on the side of the turn. But otherwise very hard when it comes to turning.

They have been working the new a339 exterior and reworking cockpit, if u have followed their discord. Can't wait for the finished product

The reason the weight didnt update is because you only planned it and didnt sync it, And the open door was the cockpit door as you didnt lock it

just a little tip for the T/O config if you press the cabin call button above your head it will get rid of the cabin message
I also enjoy flying this airplane, one thing I really like is the engine sounds on the ground, they have done a great job on that.

There’s a lot more inaccuracies than the APU fire handle placement, even if it’s up there in the neo, it still has too many inaccuracies for my liking

It does... I had a missed approach into LGAV and everything was set by default... the go around procedure and the ILS arrival back.

Same with me too - which is why I never really use it, the flight dynamics made it feel like it was an A320, and not a much larger aircraft.
Since you have xplane12 as well, maybe you can check out the default a330, the better option would be of course the Toliss a340

Great video. I’ve been flying the headwind for a long time. Since it came out. It has greatly improved. I agree with you it’s a excellent freeware. We will see what they do with it. Who knows really when aerosoft A330 will release. I see headwind making more updates. Maybe gets better.

Headwind makes a really good reskin of a high fidelity aircraft that already has super similar system to the a330 and makes it free. Captain scam makes a reskin of a really bad plane (old asobo 747) that doesn’t have much in common with the 777 and 767 and charge 30 dollars for the plane and another 5 for liveries. I used to be an Xbox user but a month ago, I switched solely because of stuff like this. We have nothing and have to pay for everything

Hi! I know you posted this video a long time ago but i have a question about the a330 and i think this comment will fit best in the comment section of this video. Since you are a real a330 pilot, i guess you might know, why is the a330 slower compared to other widebody aircraft(cruise speed for other widebodies such as a350, a380, 787 is Mach .85, Mach .84 for 777, while for the a330 and a340 cruise speed is Mach .82)

There are a lot of people complaining here… I think it’s cool. I have never dabbled with an A330 in real life but have with an A320. So this makes it simpler for me 😂
Hi emanuel, I have problems with the fly-by-wire controlls (it is turning rudder left and right too much which results in the plane heavily shaking left and right and also up and down). Did you had problems with that, if so how did you fix it?
I'm pre-TR for the A333/9 and would like something decent to get some preparation & familiarity beforehand. So, what would be better, Headwind or LVFR? Seems the latter is more lavishly detailed but lacks systems functionality & flight dynamics perhaps? HW appears more functional but the business end is an A320.
Honestly, neither of the two. The closest you'll get is the Fenix A320, even though it is an A320. It's still closer to the A330 than any of the "A330s" available for MSFS.

Been looking forward to this. Obviously the cockpit is not right but it’s fun to fly and as you said is free. A lot of systems dont exist. It’s clearly taken a lot work so fair does to the developers contributors
Absolutely, for freeware it's a stunning plane. Obviously measured against freeware standards - heck even low level payware standards, if only it had a correctly looking cockpit. Looking at you, CaptainScam.
A completely informative and fair judgement with clear caveats. I look forward to the further development of this freeware. Standout for me are the immersive feeling I get when when hand flying it, albeit with pitch issues on approach. Well done to Headwind and FBW. Will I buy the pay ware - yes just as I have done with the Fenix, but I still also use the A320 FBW as the comparisons I find interesting. I accept that the products in X-plane also have merit but I simply cannot find the time or finance to run two simulators but we are fortunate to have that option. The goal post we now set for Freeware is spectacular when we consider that the systems and flight models of several hundred million dollar real aircraft are being attempted to be simulated.

@@davidwhite8495Sounds to me like an addon compability issue. Rename your current Community folder, and make a new one. Then do a new, clean install of the A339, from theire installer, into the new Community folder. Don’t use any third party livery. Just the plane. Then try to launch the A339 in the sim. If it works now (it should do), you know that you have a mod in your Community folder, that conflicts with A339. Delete the new Community folder, and rename the old one back. Then you have to pick out addons, one by one, and test, until you find the one that conflicts with the A339. Good luck!! 😊

Hi Emmanuel, you share the same impression I have about this addon. As great as it is for freeware, miles ahead than what we got for FSX, I'm turned off by the "slightly modified" A320 Cockpit which I just can't get past. Hopefully this is addressed in the future but for now I don't use it much. Great video as always.
I feel you, freeware is better than ever these days, but a good pay are Addon still is unreplacable
@@A330DriverQuestion is, is Aerosoft that payware? As I pointed out in the FSElite story, the reviewer states Aerosoft didn't intend the A330 to be study level, it has no failure system, and has no 3D, cockpit,, so you are essentially flying a cockpit. That may not be important to the hard core simmer, but for the general simmer which is the market Aerosoft needs to capture it might be when there is a descent freeware alternative already available. True it maybe not completely prototypical many of the points you point out, while completely valid, Many simmers would but ever have been aware of them unless pointed out by someone like you.As people tend to be visual, they may like to go exploring in back of the cabin during a long flight, but they won't have that luxury on the Aerosoft model. Again may not be an issue to a hard core simmer, but could be a show stopper to a general simmer, when an enjoyable alternative is available. Now had Aerosoft went with a type not modeled in the sim, like an A340 or A350 (Although one is on the way!) they may have increased their customer base! As if a simmer wants one of those models, there would be nowhere else to go.to get one.

in my mcdu on this a330, it says "no simbrief user" how should i solve this? I have fixed the id username, but nothing happens. everything works on the flybywire..? but not on headwind a330.
Did you start the simbridge? Without it you aren't going to see terrain

This is a landing video of a real A330 neo but the cockpit is very much like one on the Heads wind A330 Neo, including the A320 style straight across gear indicator lights? So it seems the Headwind cockpit may be be realistic after all, at least on this airline!! Possible Airline option??

@@A330Driver It's possible the Headwinds found this video and used it for a template for their cockpit! They look pretty close! The question is are their other A330 Neo's like this? And why? Hello. Its not A330!!!!This is an A320 FBW disguised as an A330. Big disappointment. They copied and pasted the other plane's settings, but it's not real. LVFR A330 real.!!
Does the 330 come with the crew audio announcements?
Anything that's in the FlyByWire A320 will also be in here since system wise the headwind A330 is mostly the FlyByWire A320.

This add-on lost me at having an A320 cockpit in an A330 shell. Even for free I couldn't take it as a 330. It's like Captain Sim's 777 which is actually a 747 in a different external model. OK, this is free but still. It needs much work.

I only use headwind A339X Pre release (alpha) version, which has superb flight model
regarding the flight model: FBW is tweaked, and tweaked, and tweaked again and under continuous development with multiple updates per week, whereas I can't even remember the last time the Fenix app updated their version.

I had a couple of crashes the latest days as well, since a new update was released the other day. Hopefully the next one will solve it. In any case I’d recommend to get in touch with their support to get some assistance with the issues.

i don't lnow why FBW have taken so long to (not) implement FINAL APP. it's frankly the only major NAV mode that's missing, and it's been months dragging into years, during which time they nailed VNAV in the descent but again, for some reason, not the final RNAV approach. is it really that hard to model?

Takeoff especially looks very arcade like, landing looks typical MSFS weaknesses.
I honestly still don't understand the appeal of this project. Why is the Headwind getting so much praise? The current external model is not good, the cockpit model is adapted from the Asobo/FBW A320neo model. The systems and avionics, again, are adapted from FBW with few changes. Yes, I'm aware that Headwind have shown some promising features in the works such as custom 3D models, systems etc. So, when you look at it at face value, what has Headwind really brought to the table here? Not much. Did I miss anything? I am genuinely curious as to why this project is receiving so much praise.
Of course, it's far from finished, but they never claimed that. They make it available for free and are constantly improving it. And since it's a freeware product, it takes more time. I support these people who are working on such a project. We have to give them time, it's not as easy as you might think. On the other hand, I don't understand the people who don't do anything for the community, but always complain the most.
@@mgking777 But the difference between this and Captain Sim is money... This is so amazing just because it is free? If they charged for it they wouldn't be any different than Cap Sim... Not complaining, just not "getting" it either and not using it.
@mgking777 Okay, first of all, I too support Headwind in their efforts and hope they are successful in their endeavours. I genuinely think that what they have shown in their Discord is very impressive and I cannot wait to get my hands on the new models and systems. However, I think too much credit is given to them at this point for what basically amounts to a few additions to a massive project by FBW. I'm just sceptical at this point.
@mgking777 Also, I'm not voicing any frustrations with respect to the time it takes to realise their ambitions. I follow many freeware projects closely and am very aware of the challenges and the extend of the work needed.
I think some of the credits, comes from that the people at Headwind, was the first to give us a decent long haul aircraft. Many people, me too, were hungry for flying long haul. Now we know the plane, we love it. We support the team, and the fantastic work they do.
