My issue is that when I barely touch the cruise control button itself, the Cruise Control light flickers on and off. I'm sure it's probably gooped up, so I'll have to disassemble the switch and clean it out. However, I'll also replace this bushing at the same time! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! Thanks for the great tip!
Just wanted to say thanks. I had the exact symptoms on my cruise control and came upon your video. That was the problem, a little $10 bushing. Easy fix.
Hey MM, Had to change that part as well. The challenge I had was getting the screw back in. Quite a challenge. Took me much more than 5 minutes. Appreciate your video. Thanks for sharing 😊
Although not having problems with mine at this point this was an informative video. Thanks. Looks like my question about lubricating this bushing might be a good idea was answered. New subscriber from Ontario, Canada. Enjoying the videos.
Thanks Memphis Mike, The small brass bushing didn't fix my cruise control but it let my clutch get back to normal. I will look at the next part to replace to see if that will fix me cruise control. Thanks very much for all your knowledge. KC Dave
Thanks so much for posting this video. I was about to pull my right hand switches apart thinking that was the problem and assumed I'd have to replace them. But in fact after watching this I discovered pushing forward on the clutch handle I could engage cruise control. I ordered the bushing and sure enough, when I pulled out the old one it was pretty badly worn. Cruise control works great now. You saved me many hours of frustration and many hundreds of dollars in unnecessary replacement parts.
Thanks. Worked like a charm. Would like to add that for some reason the original bushing had the hole goes all the way through thus allowing the loose handle. The replacement bushing hole doesn't go through all the way letting the cable/plunger to push against the back thus much more fitting and no more loose fitting. I suspect the bushing is wearing of and the hole gets punched through. Nevertheless, great video. Thanks.
You can buy the entire kit to change the clutch and brake from wing stuff "do not just change the clutch", should also use some silicone grease to keep it lubed. If you can move your levers up and down replace bushings.
For what it’s worth I had an issue with the switch down by the rear brake pedal. Sometimes you need to adjust that so it makes better pressure contact. Many times I would have to lift up from underneath the pedal with my toe while riding to get the cruise control to engage..
My cruise control problem has to do with the front brake lever. You have to push the front brake lever out and simultaneously engage the cruise control button which is a little tricky. Have an 07 GL1800.
Just wanted to say Thankyou, you saved me alot of time and money on a 95 goldwing I recently purchased, it has a little over 100 thousand miles on it, that bushing was really out of shape, awesome bike though, and now my cruise control works..Thankyou.

Great information. Also the front and rear brake levers effect the cruise control. But you got it. The clutch is used much more then the brakes look there first.
Great video MM, also sometimes your rear brake lever can stick (especially aftermarket levers) and cause your CC not to engage also. Thanks again, keep doing what you are doing brother!

Thanks Mike, i can't figure out why my cruise control wont engaged, i tried pushing the clutch lever forward and then press the SET to cruise button with the cruise control option ON, still didn't work. Maybe it's the micro switch or both the bushing and switch.. will give them a shot at it..
Michael Schroeder I think actually I am just going to go ahead and order new pivot bolt as well. Bike is 12yrs old. Little preventive maintenance goes a long way!
I keep at least 2 extra bushings on hand at all times. I use special anti seize grease (worth) , it’s a copper based grease, very high temp , very slippery. Since I’ve been using that grease ( 25+ years ) I’ve only used 1 bushing in 15 years. During the off season I go over the entire bike , front to back top to bottom. Hey Mike sup , could that maybe be the reason why some of the goldwings have problems with the clutch because of that bushing? because the clutch isn't fully encaged or not. I mean some goldwings do have clutch / shifting issueus and needs to be serviced and disassembled . I was just wondering , dunno if it is really related to it ? And an other question , i like to see a vid on how to remove and install the front lower cowl propperly , the part where the foglights are behind . Can't find a vid nowhere ....If you are in able to ofc ....thanks in advance much appriciated
One thing that was not covered is put a light coating of grease on the new bushing, in the hole where the push pin sits and the pivot pin for the assembly.
That is a good point there. I usually do not as I fear it may attract dirt. Then again that could be part of my issue. Does the Manual recommend that as well?
I'm an old farm boy. Anything that moves gets lubricated. I worked in a Honda shop after retirement and quit in 02 when I broke my back..it doesn't draw as much dirt as you might think. Even an occasional drop of spray lube will help. Don't forget the brake lever either. I love your channel.
