    // FAQ
    - Why don't I hear the inverted sound on my cellphone speaker?
    Mobile devices often have a single speaker on board, and sum L & R audio signals before the speaker output. Therefore during the Inverted signal test, you would hear absolutely zero signal output. This is by design, and not something to be concerned about.
    - I hear buzz during the test. Is this ok?
    Lots of reasons you could be hearing buzz - could be the speaker driver, the way it's attached to the enclosure, anything in the enclosure or surrounding the speaker, the amplifier, etc. I would first identify the source and see if you can eliminate it - brace things down if you can, shake the enclosure, use rubber spacers etc. It could turn out that the speaker driver itself is damaged, in which case you probably need to replace that particular driver if removable, or the whole speaker if not.
    A buzz during the test means it'll probably buzz during music playback, but may not be as noticeable. The sound won't be as clean as it could be, but a slight buzz probably doesn't mean the speaker is getting damaged.

    Thanks! This helped me notice that I need to insert my in ears properly if not it would sound like there's channel in balance. I think because when i insert it wrongly, only half the nozzle is emitting sound into my ear canal while de rest of the sound is hitting the other part of my ear which blocks it from being heard so it sounds uncentered because the volume of one ear bud is softer.
    Made me realize proper insertion is important.

    Bro, this is a very important comment. At 4:52 min, it really showed of the difference in left and right channel problem. My headphone has a very very minor difference between left and right speakers of EKSA e 900 pro that is almost impossible to detect with normal testing as only at specific frequency only, the difference is noticeable. Your video at the time mentioned really picked it up. I have tested with both mono and stereo and now i am confirmed that it has the problem. I think that EKSA is supplying this model faulty only. I think they even don't know about this. This is a really shocking for me.

    Thanks for this! It sounds like there's a slight tonal difference in the monitors I've just bought. Is this an illusion because the sound is changing sides or does everyone else have complete perceived symmetry in tone? I'm even pointing just one ear at the monitors and they're right next to each other, to rule out assymetrical hearing.

    • @OutlierAudio
      @OutlierAudio  3 роки тому +4

      This is really a common thing, to hear slight tonal differences between two (high end) speakers when listening closely to wideband A-B tests. It's almost impossible to have a perfectly indecipherable match in the real world, because of part tolerances and also acoustic asymmetries (although you've somewhat ruled out acoustics). If it's small but significant, you might consider EQ as a fix. For "smart" EQ solutions, have a look at miniDSP or Audyssey MultEQ stuff.

    I can say with confidence that both of my phone's speakers are working perfectly.
    Although I have a question because they don't sound the same.
    The right one seems to be less bassy and more on the right side of the equaliser. Is this the stereo separation doing it's thing?

    • @OutlierAudio
      @OutlierAudio  2 роки тому

      Could be stereo separation/widening processing like you said, but could also be mismatch in the two speakers - e.g. if you have a newer iPhone, the two speakers are pointing in different directions and probably have different specs for enclosure, transducer, etc. Apple is probably using separate audio processing for each speaker to match them more closely, but that can only go so far.

    • @DenisLiasis
      @DenisLiasis 2 роки тому

      @@OutlierAudio I have an XZ Premium. It has 2 front facing speakers and they indeed sound different.
      The left is more bassy, more clear. The right is less clear, more on the voices.
      Together they do the work. If i have my head in front while the phone is in landscape I can feel the stereo sound, not only hear it. It's warm and really immersive.
      At the point that you play air sounds in your test, it feels like I'm really there when I close my eyes.
      Although when it's speakers play one after one, it seems that they miss something.

    • @OutlierAudio
      @OutlierAudio  2 роки тому +1

    The polarity test is throwing me for a loop. The inverted version sounds much more centered! That has to mean that my car speakers are inverted right?

    • @OutlierAudio
      @OutlierAudio  3 роки тому

      Does it sound more centered with the inverted signal, in all 3 signal ranges (low, mid, high)? If so, you might be better off flipping the polarity on one side. That said, car audio is extremely tricky because of all the reflective surfaces, the positions of the speakers, and the fact that the driver is off center. Even the best stereo soundstage will still be a compromise in a car, and a polarity flip won't have as clear an impact as it would on a home/studio listening setup. A couple more things to watch out for would be: if you have no subwoofer, the wrong polarity could kill your low bass, and also some modern head units have delay settings per-speaker, so this will have an impact on speaker phase (and polarity) as well. Finally, if you optimize completely for the driver, your passengers' sound could get bad.

    I thought I had a problem with channel being quieter on my amp - changed speakers around and the other speaker went quiet. Tried different outputs, same problem. Plugged headphones in, same problem. Tried my laptop jack, then my DAC through the laptop, then my phone - same problem. Ordered a new amp, then while I was waiting realized I hadn't tested my headphones this way directly through my phone or the laptop. Guess what - SAME PROBLEM. All the white noise sounds lower in pitch and varyingly quieter on one channel on all of my devices through all of my sources. Of course I've switched everything around to make sure it's not just my ears. New headphones on the way, I'll update when they arrive. Losing my mind over here, almost suspecting this video to be a practical joke! But I probably just have cheap gear. Just found the same thing with bluetooth headphones from my phone and my laptop, so I don't think it's cables - crappy audio drivers I guess. Sennheiser HD6XX should help me figure it out. It looks like I hear nothing above about 15/16 Kh. I guess at the age of 44 that's pretty normal. Haven't checked with earphones yet, just speakers.

    The expensive part costs NOTHING as it is possible to get FREE EMULATED Audio EFFECTS emulated onto a Smart Phone for NO MONEY AT ALL but at least KNOWLEDGE has become MORE valuable than technology and software!
    Rich kid says.. I bought all this "Perfect Hi Fi Software but I don't know how to STOP IT MAKING MY "Music" from sounding like TURDS!!!!
