👍👍An awesomely awesome performance.🔥🔥🔥 For those who say BABYMETAL is not metal, I give you this performance. OTFGK, but an interesting take posted on BABYMETAL REDDIT by VulpineDeity: Take it a step farther. Not only does 'SU-METAL DESU' mean she's introducing herself, it's also her super-hero transformation phrase. Like on Sailor Moon, Usagi says 'Moon Prism Power!' and turns into Sailor Moon, Suzuka Nakamoto shouts 'I am SU-METAL' and becomes possessed by the spirit of the Fox God and transforms into the Metal Goddess SU-METAL. The magical girl who transforms into a hero is a huge trope in Japan, comparable to Disney princesses in the west. BABYMETAL DEATH! follows the trope and it's the moment that they all transform into their magical alter egos at the start of the show. 🦊 🦊 🦊 🖖 ❤
That's a really good comparison. Another one would be to Power Rangers, as the girls are summoned to the stage as Suzuka, Moa and Yui, but in the process of the song they are transformed into Su-Metal, Moa-Metal and Yui-Metal. I saw them open with this song in June 2023 and it blew the roof off the venue, they pushed anticipation into ecstasy and set the mood for the whole show. As a crowd member, you wouldn't dare to not follow the choreography prompts of Babymetal. If you go to a show and they open with this, then you are expected to perform with them.
This was March 2014 at the Budokan in Tokyo over 10 years ago. Su was 16, Yui and Moa were both 14. That opening riff - it was an homage to Metallica's 'One', so you weren't wrong associating it. I'm sure you will get a lot of people suggesting you watch the performance from Legend 1997. That was 3 months before this, Su-metal's 16th birthday party in December 2013 (she was born in 1997, so Legend 1997 was about her). 'BABYMETAL DEATH' was the first song on the first album and the few lyrics there are is simply them introducing themselves and BABYMETAL by name. Just to clarify, the word desu (the U is silent) means I am, it is, we are etc - spoken with a slight lisp it sounds very much like the English word death. The lyrics are: "B_A_B_Y_M_E_T_A_L" "Su-metal death/desu", "Yuimetal death/desu", "Moametal death/desu", "BABYMETAL death/desu" "Death Death Death Death!" Normally they would open concerts with this song (as happened here). They stopped playing it at all after 2017 when Yui couldn't perform and then left the band in 2018 ... it was brought back in April 2023 (live at the PIA Arena if you want to see a more recent version) when Momometal became the official third member and they could once again introduce themselves as a trio - it has been the regular opening number again ever since then. They are supporting SlipKnot in Mexico tonight and they'll be back on their headline tour of the US again straight after.
After losing my father 2 brothers my best friend and many other friends, I was in a pretty numb place for years, this group saved my life, after multiple therapists that did nothing for me and so many other things I tried, BABYMETAL was the first and only thing to make me smile in years, I’ve literally been happy Everyday since I found them. They saved my life and continue to do so. Some of their music is just so meaningful and beautiful. Would love to see more🙂🦊🤘
A beautiful story of overcoming. Your words give me courage. I lost my father and an old friend too. Fraternal greeting. Babymetal 🦊🦊🦊 is wonderful! It seems that the girls' always message is, 'Hey, shall we sing and dance together?' Let's always do that!
Really fun reaction guys. This is a great example of why Babymetal are such legends with their live performances. They have this almost magical effect on their audiences.
The Ava Marie intro to 1997 was kick ass too, I think they closed that show with BM Death, I can’t remember, might have been headbanger with the band? 🦊🙂
Nice to see you still popping into the Foxhole . This is a demonstration on how to open a show . They are still doing this opening on their shows on the world tour they are in the USA this month get a ticket . yes, I agree that the audience amplified it, but not everyone can get that reaction from an audience . The stage presence from these young ladies is incredible, especially Su don't know what she's got, but seeing them live, it's overwhelming . Got my ticket for the O2 in London next May they bringing their Arena show on their Europe tour . It's a 20.000 capacity at the O2 it is going to be fun 😁 🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼
I have my ticket for London! Trying to follow, support and serve Babymetal this month in the USA. Although the concerts are listed as sold out, there are always resale tickets in the US. Different rules between here and Japan. ❤️🦊
Great reaction, and welcome back to Babymetal! This song has been their opening hype song for most of the live shows, to get the audience fired up...mission accomplished!
There was an interview with the girls and the question, what is your most difficult choreography? Their answer was BABYMETAL DEATH. It is easy to get caught by the music and headbanging when you are watching it, but the girls are doing a full high intensity workout. Same for the crowd.
When the reaction started I remembered their Gimme Choco reaction and I thought- I've watched the son grow up. Then I looked at BM and thought- they haven't grown up at all. Reactors come and go, I'm glad to see Father and Son still watching after 6 years.
The song's title is "BABYMETAL Death". This is a good version but I would say that the "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" version ( ua-cam.com/video/WE-CFHlYQE0/v-deo.htmlsi=5VpIP-DLAO24tlX5 ) is more meaningful to the kitsunes of The One - this version is "safe" for all viewers; the "Legend" version is a bit darker. NOT A CULT!!! Keep rockin’ BABYMETAL!!! KITSUNE UP!!! 🤘🦊🤘
Song's name is actually "BABYMETAL DEATH". And it's important because it's a pun with the Japanese word "desu" (meaning I am or we are) which, mispronounced, sounds pretty much like "death". So, the name of the song means "We are BABYMETAL". And the pun continues in the lyrics where they literally introduce themselves. This is why this was (and is again now that they are a trio again) their usual show opener. And, well... yes they are warming up and stretching and (why not) also setting the excitement level of the audience. 🤘🦊
Hell yeah guys! The Metallica’s One nod is dead on. Metallica has been a big inspiration for the girls when they were introduced to the Metal genre. Just an “innocent” song where the girls introduce themselves 😂. You should watch the Legend 1997 version of this song, even more epic and dark lol. 🤘🦊
Great reaction! Question. Where are you guys from? Because they are currently touring the States. I’m seeing them for the third time in a week, and I’m stoked!
Well it is based on the typical Japanese injoke that "to be" in japanese "desu: sounds like death and after they crucified their lead singer the first time in Legend 1997 it was a Trope forbthem. Since this song is by Design their starter song. They were taught to use Stage Personas and tjis song helped them into their chosen character.
Anyone can tell me, if they ever switch the sequence of their introduction? Or was it always first Yui and then Moa, as it is now first Moa then Momo? And if they never changed, why? Would have the crowd caught a bit of guard ;)
But itbis extremly obvious how far they evolvedvthis song. In the beginning it was much more stativ, while mowadays they run around for s good part of the song.
