Walking NYC : Victorian Flatbush Fiske Terrace & West Midwood
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 жов 2024
- I walk through the communities of Fiske Terrace & West Midwood in the greater Victorian Flatbush area. This area houses many Victorian homes since the early 1900s, and is a planned community with the intention of making it feel like you are in the country. The tree-lined streets also house the Flatbush Malls, with medians offering a bit of green space.

Def one of Brooklyn's Best Kept Secrets! Was great joining you on my channel after for a little walk and pizza as well.
For sure! It was fun to get some pizza afterwards
Being from Brooklyn. I've always loved this place. Brooklyn got many hidden gems.
Without you doing these walks I would never know an area like this existed in Brooklyn. Thanks AK. ♥️
Now you know!
Really enjoyed this walk, it did seem like we were in a different time. Seems like NYC is a world of it owns. Your work brings me joy thank you.
Never even knew this part of Brooklyn existed. It's beautiful. Like upstate suburbs. Nice video 👍😊
Each and every houses here tell-a-tale , memorable experience for some of the folks who once lived here...Nice suburban community to preserve... Good job AK
Thanks! If only the houses could talk and tell their stories.
That brick oval in the street could be a cistern. They were installed in San Francisco after the Great Earthquake to collect rainwater for use in firefighting.
Really beautiful walk! The dollars 💵 on this walk. Wow! Thanks 🙏 for the stroll.
What an amazing area! Thank you for showing it to us.
What a wonderful way to spend my Saturday morning with coffee and your tour! Thank you.
Thank you for this lovely tour…I agree, in the spring with all the trees and flowers blooming it will look amazing.
OMG what a fantastic video. This is a precious area. Love all the beautiful and different houses. Thank you AK.
I was born and raised in Brooklyn, move when I was 18, and I NEVER saw that section before! Freakin awesome!
Very nice coverage of this area. I've passed thru here and it's lovely. You're correct, the trees here in spring look pretty.
It's a lovely area to come back and walk through
I haven't been to that part of Brooklyn in years. It's still beautiful. Thanks for the tour down memory lane.
Great walk, thanks. If you keep walking north on Rugby Road, in about a mile, you will see some REALLY large and old mansions. My cousin bought one about 20 years ago on Marlborough Rd near Albemarle - it was four stories high and had been owned by Lillian Hellman. That street looks unlike any other in Brooklyn. Also, if you walk a half block south of Avenue H you will run into an obstruction, which is an abandoned freight track that is now being considered for building a cross-town subway line from Brooklyn to Queens. And if you walk just a few blocks east you will run into Brooklyn College.
I will have to check them out, thanks for the insight!
Lillian Hellman! Wow!
They really should run a train on those old tracks. The tracks are maintained still. I used to walk my dogs down there
Wow, I felt like I travelled back into time watching this video! ⏲ I really enjoyed seeing the Victorian houses in this beautiful, quiet neighborhood. 😍 The snow patches on the lawns add a magical touch! 🤩 21:03 Cute, friendly cat! 😻 Thank you for sharing this relaxing walk, AK! 🤗
It was a wonderful area to explore
Thank you AK , I just love Victorian homes and I’m so thrilled you shared this video , what a lovely neighborhood xoxo
I love learning about the history on NY! I grew up in Brklyn & Qns and worked for a contractor in Flatbush and never knew this place existed! It's like time stopped!
Now you know about this place
Great walking tour today. Definitely appreciate seeing a part of NYC I didn’t know existed. Beautiful.
Thank you for showing us this hidden gem. Now, I know exactly where I would love to live if I ever moved to NYC.
Excellent!
I lived in Brooklyn for 36 years and never knew of this community. Thanks for giving us a tour along with comments on the history of the area. Much preferred to the same old walks around the trendy midtown Manhattan areas!
Absolutely love this walk!
Great walk , you seem to find such a beautiful houses !! Very pleasant houses to the eyes , beautiful area and the houses looked brilliant 🙂!!! Even the starting point of this video , the station looked beautiful , and not without mentioning those rockinchairs out of the station , such a fine detailed exterior 😮!! Thank you A K for sharing 👍!!!
It's a neighborhood with a lot of charm and history!
@@ActionKid Looks that way !
Happy Weekend!😊
Wow, that's hard to believe that's in Brooklyn.. It looks like a beautiful suburban community in Connecticut ..
What a beautiful area! This would be ideal for me; close to the hustle and bustle of Manhattan, but a suburban-like setting. I consider that perfection!
Glad you found your ideal place
Beautiful area, beautiful homes, beautiful day. Take care.
The Victorian homes are just beautiful with it's own kind of charm and a wonderful place to live! With the subway so close, I think after you have lived there for a while the train would not be such a problem, for me, I would enjoy watching the train! Thank you Actionkid for showing us around these communities and enjoy your day! 👍👍🚶♂
Glad you enjoyed my stroll through the neighborhood!
What a beautiful area it must be protected. The homes are large I imagine its when large families exsisted. Another interesting day. Thanks,!
Beautiful houses & a great stroll AK, thanks for sharing, you find some amazing areas in NYC, keep the good work up 👍🤩
Wow we loved your adding the historical information which we would always love to hear on walks when possible. We loved this walk!! 👍👍👍
My grandmother lived in midwood for 101 years lol
Yes I remember walking through here to get to my middle school back in 1991-92 🤣 its official, I'm not young anymore 😓
Omg Action Kid, u did it again man. Native Brooklyn never been thru here. U r a pioneer okay. Be safe n see u around the bend. 😘
How nice! A great unknown place of NYC!
If you walk further into the Ditmas Park area and towards Cortelyou the Victorian house keep going and going. All those side streets must be seen in the spring bloom days especially. Also check out Argyle and Rugby Roads too. Extremely treelined and cool looking.
Beautiful walk, thank you!
That neighborhood is so quaint it looks like parts of upstate NY.
How beautiful! Yes, that's right, it doesn't feel like you're walking through a cosmopolitan city. Historic districts marked by different colored street signs is a good idea, I saw that for the first time. It must be wonderful to explore such a large area, always discovering something new and sharing it with us. This was very informative, thank you Kenneth 🙂
It feels like you're transported to a different place when you walk through.
Thank you for video showing! Great walking.👍 area nice house and look like same the movie have a great enjoy! 🏠👍🙋
I live on a main train line. I love the sound, and if you don't you do get use to it.
Beautiful day for a beautiful walk in such a nice looking neighborhood.
Beautiful video
Terrific video
Beautiful, big historic homes in that area you are walking in, a lot!!
Avenue J and H are one of the best looking train stations
Crazy people haven't found it.
I only discovered it because I attended Brooklyn College for one summer class.
So impressive !!!
Great video.
Been past Ave H on the way going to work in Park Slope.
Perfect spot for Subway fanning
Great video.
My fantasy homes, just a winning lottery ticket away❣
Very nice area! Looks so suburban!
It's so appropriate for Coney Island Avenue to run near the "old-fashioned" Victorian homes. This was a lovely walk, thoroughly enjoyed every bit of this video. Thank you for filming and explaining the neighborhood. Such beautiful homes and so well kept. Perhaps the portions that were not designated heritage homes were the reason you mentioned - it makes it more difficult and costly to repair and maintain them.
Nice walk
Flatbush is also a dutch word. bush=bosch, forest. Upstate we have Greenbush, also named for Dutch.
There's an old Dutch cemetery right on Flatbush Ave
Wow I may be walking around in your videos. Lol. I live in Flatbush but I walk all over the neighborhood. There used to be bridges over the tracks but they took them down
My old stomping grounds ‼️🥰🥰🤗🤗🤗❤️
no one would ever believe that these neighborhoods exists in New York City , even the people that live here wonder about their future !
Nice walk on a beautiful day!
If u go straight down to Argle rd & Marlboro it’s Michelle Williams home she does it great for Halloween people come from all over to see it . It’s on u-tube also 😄
That's a different house. They guy that wrote Shrek owns the Halloween house
Yes, St Charles in Staten Island has nice Victorian homes.
This is most interesting. Up here in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada we also have an Ave. H... and all the other streets that are lettered. What is really interesting is that our Ave.H has homes lining it almost identical to these Brooklyn houses.
i live on the flatbush side from where these homes are and drive passed through the area often one thing that always caught my attention ever since i was a kid is the brick columns on certain blocks there’s one on each side of the street i heard parts of the area was gated communities do you know if that’s true? and never hear of fisk terrace crazy huh lol great vid
Maybe in its day it may have been a gazebo where people could sit outside and relax socialize with their friends. It a beautiful area.
I was always told the brick oval was made from the original cobblestones. We called the area Ditmas Park.
Hey Ken, I used to live in Upper Montclir, nj - love American Architekturę! very beautiful esp, old houses... Your movie reminds me of this town
Another educational video. This is an amazing vid. Were homes leveled to install the tracks?, guess so. These huge homes are apartments inside?
it's probably beautiful in the spring, but now with the leaves off the trees you can really see how big and beautiful the houses are
Nice neighborhood!
Hollywood is calling. 🎥
Nice neighborhood 😎
It would be nice to see this in the spring. Rents in that area are more than 1,000.00 a month.
A Victorian Flatbush was a "streetworker" that was run over by a horse and carriage - also referred to as a Cobblestone Cunny.
I grew up only a few blocks away from Ditmas Park , another collection of wonderful Victorian houses. Keep up the good work! I always tell people Brooklyn has/had beautiful neighborhoods- they never believe me! 🙄
I am from around there too. No land though :(.
@@alb12345672 Yeah all that land's been built up. 😒🤷
You should come to my block at Flatbush avenue. You can sit on my front porch and watch the action. It's more ghetto than Fiske Terrace but across Flatbush there are some big houses too
You have to come hear again!! Holiday times would be lively !!
it's a shame that you can't see the size of the rooms inside of these houses !
do Prospect Park South , especially Albemarle Road !
Liked 😻
Looks a lot like Saratoga Springs!!!
Check Lowell ,and Concord Massachusetts. Is similar but more historical ofcourse.
Bernie Sanders lived there on E. 21st St. and Glenwood
wow never knew that i went to ps 152
What's AK!Wow!Looks so cool especially in my favorite borough! Really into Brooklyn!!!
"Lots of people walking their dogs", then a dog stops to do his business, ha so funny.
Brooklyn is the core of NYC.
You should so go to Grand Army plaza on a Saturday
roads werelike this way back in the victorian daysthe block om by train station is not land mark
go a couple of block the sign be brown

@@xww.. Really!Great then !
Hi Action Kid
I would like to walk with you when you video the neighbourhoods. I have visited many US neighbourhoods with my friend. I live in UK London and would like to go back to the US to see more cities. Can we meet please.
If nobody knows about this neighborhood then why are the houses 2-4 million? Every Brooklyn realtor has been talking about this area for ages. Not a best kept secret at all. Get their rich clients a deal and get their commissions. That's where all the rich buy. Nobody born and raised NYC ever wanted to live in a small midtown condo. 2008 crash rents started to go up huge Midwood while midtown speculation investors crashed prices horribly.
There don't has bus stops? Also don't has supermarkets or pharmacies nearly... Pretty cool but unpractized.... Nice
Yes there are buses a few blocks away and supermarkets on a different avenue
Philadelphia has these but the rainbow has descended and it is now ghetto
🏡💚👍
Get you a lil scooter to roll through faster
Definitely some nice scenery but Brooklyn doesn't look that nice. Definitely some beautiful structural houses
But you Americans do not have a "Victorian"era as it only applies to the Commonwealth countries!
Things from that time are just referred to as Victorian, especially the architecture. Not really about geography.
