As an American in Idaho I wish our governments would require religions to give an accounting. Our tithing slips literally state that the church can allocate the money you give them any way they want not how you mark it on the tithing slips. You may designate $100 for humanitarian aid and they could use that donation to help buy a$148million dollar hotel in Hawaii from brother Marriott like they just did.

The tithing requirement actually caused me to shift. My parents took the kids to Brazil one summer to visit our cousin who was on a mission, and hoped that it would encourage us to go on one when we were of age. It seemed that lots of the members struggled to feed their family and pay the 10% gross salary for tithing. When I got home I looked into tithing, and learned that the requirement was originally 10% of one's surplus after all living expenses were deducted. In 1907, Joseph F. Smith also said that there would come a day when tithing wouldn't be required to advance the Kingdom of God. Based on available data, it looks like the church could do that today, but won't. It's also sad that a church that professes charity doesn't reciprocate what's expected of its members, and gives back less (as a % of what it takes in) than most Fortune 500 companies.

Hey, Nemo! My husband died a few months ago and I was informed that his membership will remain on the church records (and counted as a member) until he would have become 110 tears old (or 32 years).. This also meant our daughter who died 11 years ago at the age of 26 will still be counted as an active member of the church until 2094!!! I could be wrong, but that's what church leadership told me....just one of SO MANY reasons I'm resigning.

The only impact that all has is that no one will be allowed to do temple work for them without direct permission from an immediate family member until that 110 yrs has passed. Once they've deceased, they aren't counted as "active members" in any of the stats. Is it not true that they were baptised members at the time of their death? Did they have their membership records removed?

WOW Nemo...you find the best sources and people! It's hard for the church to argue against its own report that they have been having to submit yearly all these years. I suspect that the money isnt touched as a way of remaining out of any danger of losing their charitable status
lest they misstep with any of the funds.
If thats even partly true, they just dont seem to care how much their financial bottom lines cost the UK people and if it involves a complete nonsensicle neglect of the members needs there. JK Rowling has started LUMOS as a means of ending institutionalization. The LDS church could donate those 5 million pounds to her charity and reunite children to families.
The LDS church could do the same type of work on their own---take those funds and empty orphanages in some African countries by providing resources to the families whose children are living there due to poverty. If families are able to get small amounts of money---sometimes a few hundred US dollars----to buy a cow, goats, some land to farm, etc. they can start a business and get their children out of the orphanages. Institutions are where children might get fed---but they are not a safe place for children to be raised.

$80,000 U.S. dollars is nothing to sneeze at. That American is an ignorant bloke of who you quotes. A very decent wage for a single person in San Francisco or New York.
As far as other paid employees, probably the maintenance of Temples and Church-houses requires at least one director and a couple under-employees for skilled maintenance.

I'm an active member of the church, and what I see in this video is just proof that no matter how much good the church does, it will never be enough for some people, you will always have people kicking against the pricks. Look at what happened with the Tonga volcano eruption, imagine what would have happened to all those people in the pacific islands if it was not for the church? The Tongan government was not as prepared as the church, and so the church stepped up. Enemies of the church always think they know best as to how to use church funds, but as you can see, there will be more volcanoes in the near future, more diseases, and more war, and people question why the church does not just give away all the money it has? Look at what happened to covid, the US government spent trillions of dollars, but did all those trillions solve all of our problems? No. For most of church history, the church has been poor, but after decades of paying off debt and so forth, the church has learned to save for the future and to spend wisely. I’ve attended church in many parts of the world, the middle east, Asia, North America in different states, and met people from all over south and central America, and I’ve seen people benefit from the programs that the church has to lift people out of poverty. I’ve served as a missionary and I’ve seen countless families get help when they were in need. When we got baptized, shortly after, my stepfather was sent to prison and my mother had no way of buying food for me and my sister, but guess who stepped up, the church. During covid, it was all hands on deck, members who make up the church and are not paid, stepped up including me, to feed the hungry and needy. Honestly, it does not take much to think about it. As if the leaders of the church are living in huge mansions and wearing fancy gold chains or something. The church recognizes that it's only one organization out of many and it's humble enough to work with other organizations in bringing about good into the world. What other church does not have a paid ministry and its functioning at the scale as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints? And if you think that the number of members declining is a bad thing for the church, that is to be expected especially now that the church is trying to better understand how to have a home-centered church model. Many will fall by the wayside because many will not take the time to teach the Gospel at home and to help teach the importance of the Book of Mormon. That's the sad truth. But I have seen too many miracles in this church to deny it, and that's why I’m writing this comment, to defend the kingdom from blasphemy. Here you are reading from the Bible to condemn the church while at the same time breaking the 9th commandment,

“Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” Mosiah 13:23/ Exodus 20:16
I want to invite you to repent and consider this great work. Consider the book of Mormon and what it teaches and what it testifies of. Consider how it was brought to light. Do you really think that Christ Himself is not going to come? Do you really think that he's not going to declare that this is His Church? I testify that He will. And remember what Nephi teaches
“Wo unto them that turn aside the just for a thing of naught and revile against that which is good, and say that it is of no worth! For the day shall come that the Lord God will speedily visit the inhabitants of the earth; and in that day that they are fully ripe in iniquity they shall perish.” 2Nephi 28:16
    And also
“Yea, wo be unto him that saith: We have received, and we need no more!” 2Nephi 28:27
    And one more
“Cursed is he that putteth his trust in man, or maketh flesh his arm, or shall hearken unto the precepts of men, save their precepts shall be given by the power of the Holy Ghost.”
    2Nephi 28:31
Have your precepts been given by the Holy Ghost? I tell you that no. And if you say they did, prove it. What are your fruits? They are like the fruits that the master of the vineyard rejected as is written in Jacob 5.
I testify to anyone that is reading this that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints IS the Church of Jesus Christ Himself, and if you wish to know this to be true, read the book of Mormon and ask God in the name of Christ if it's true, for it testifies of the living Christ and His church, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
