How To Make Katsudon (Pork Cutlet Rice Bowl) (Recipe) かつ丼のレシピ (作り方) - Навчання та стиль
Made this on April 8th while in Richardson TX when we went to photograph elipse. We brought my daughter, her boyfriend (whom we don't know well but thought this was good chance to get to know him), went to stay with my son. After photos (we set up their cameras and brought everything needed and they got great pictures), I had everything prepared to make Tonkatsu (your recipe). Everyone took a piece of the cooking from cutting, me directing and cooking, table set, etc. Your recipe was a great hit. Only change is I used air fryer (less oil) to cook cutlets. Everybody loved it! Thank you for a very special recipe for the end of a great day! Daughter asked for it, and it has been passed on.
Aww. Thank you so much for trying my recipe and sharing your story with me. I am glad to hear everyone enjoyed Katsudon! Yay! 🙌
This made me cry. When I was a student in Japan, 1986-87 in Nagoya, I used to get this almost every day for lunch. The scent alone brings back so many memories of that magical year in Japan. Seeing you cook it perfectly is a joyful thing. So many restaurants do it the wrong way, but you have done it perfectly. Thank you.
Aww thank you so much for your kind words. It meant so much to me!
Took a bit longer than I expected, but totally worth it! おいしいです!
JOC最高です!

Thank you so much! And I hope you do! 🤗❤️
I'm too lazy to do this but it's so relaxing to watch XD
Thank you for watching! I usually freeze Tonkatsu (either deep fried or baked version of my recipes) and make this so it’s not so much work in one day! 😃

Thank you Judy! So happy to hear that!
Katsudon was my grandpa's favorite Japanese dish!
KATSUDON!!! Oh my gosh, I've not been able to get to my favorite Japanese Market since all of the non-sense in the world and I miss this so much (they have a cafeteria). Maybe I can get some at home now.
I love your creation!!! Done with precision and technique.
Thank you so much for your kind words, Patrick!❤️
one of my favorite don :)
This my favorite! Mom would make it for my birthday meal, yummy
Aww! Your mom's Katsudon must be so good! Lucky you! ❤️
My mouth is watering
😋😋😋
yummy
One of my favs. It sometimes a pain to make (I’m no cook, and lazy) but it’s so yummy and easy
This receipt its pretty different from the way i usually make カツ丼 but i will try it like this next time
As a south Africa weeb who loves japanese Korean Chinese culture I will try and make these for my kids in the future
Try also other Asian food. SEA has a diverse cuisine, too.
I think my mother used to make this on occasion. Sadly, I now live rural but the next time I'm in the big city I will ask my mother if this is what I remember as a child. Mmm... just thinking about this is making me hungry!
This is my absolute favourite!!!!
I already have a recipe, based on an oyakodon recipe, and I use chicken schnitzel from the supermarket, because it's easier.
I'm sure yours tastes much better though!
So happy to hear you enjoy this! 🤗
Awesome!! I make this dish for my family all the time. We add mushrooms and cook it with the onions! I always have such a hard time keeping the breading on the Tonkatsu tho. This really looks beautiful!
Wonderful! Hmm about the breading... maybe you are over-simmering? You just need to reheat it. If you don't care about breading absorbing the broth, you could reheat separately before adding to the broth. Then add to the broth at the same time you do the egg. 🤗
@@justonecookbook Oh I can try that! Thank you for the advice!
I hate onions, but I gotta admit you make it look delicious
Will be making this soon can i use eggplant and flax eggs or chickpea brine as am a vegan i never had japanese food before perfect for my after office meals love your recipes making me hungry Thanks Ramya
Hope you enjoy!
Looks so easy, I think I can do it. (In the news, man burns house down...) What was the seasoning you sprinkled at the end?
My wife LOVES Kastudon. I have been using a recipe from Tsuji's book "Japanese Cooking: A Simple Art" for years. Your recipe is pretty much the same. I use a special pan very similar to a donburi pan for individual servings. May I ask what the spice was that you used at the end of the video? It does not look like Shichimi Togarashi (Japanese Seven Spice).
It is Shichimi Togarashi. 🤗 You have a oyakodon pan! I have it too, and used it for my other recipes to show how to use it. It's a lot easier to slide the food over the rice with the oyakodon pan!
Thank you for another excellent video. I do miss your talking.
Thank you Jon! I hope you follow my Instagram! I talk more there. 😆
I only have かつおだし。。。so hopefully it tastes alright 😂
My Hondashi packet contains 60g/2.11oz. Can you tell me how much to use from that packet?
I have food allergies(soy, nuts and fish based produces) but still want to know what alternatives like for the soya sauce I could use to make this katsudon as i have been trying to cook Japanese foods and other cuisines for my mother and myself to have dinner together.
Have you tried gluten free soy sauce (Kikkoman has it too)? It tastes almost like regular soy sauce. 🤗
@@justonecookbook I didn't know kikkoman made gluten free soy sauce. I definitely need to get some and try it :-) thank you for the reply
When I had katsudon in Japan, they had a fried soft boiled egg on top. Could you show a video on how to do that too?
Hmmm so no egg like this, but soft boiled egg? Or do you mean maybe onsen tamago (www.justonecookbook.com/onsen-tamago/)?
@@justonecookbook No, the egg looked to be peeled and lightly breaded on the outside, maintaining its original egg shape while still being soft boiled. its been about 4 years, but I believe it was in Oita station mall in oita Japan. My kanji is still weak with names so I can't remember what the place was called.
Where I can get the dashi pack from ?
hummm
Amazing! I love your vídeos! Just miss your voice!
Thank you Carlos! Follow my Instagram! 🤗❤️
❤️👍
What is dashi? I don't think i have that ingrident in my country.
Dashi is Japanese soup stock, and it's the fundamental flavor in Japanese cooking (what makes Japanese food authentic and unique). More about here: www.justonecookbook.com/how-to-make-dashi-jiru/
Ill be doing this with a chicken thigh tomorrow
I am attempting to make this for my parents for the first time today. It was one of my favorite meals when I went to Japan. Thank you!
Just so you know, the description has the text from last video(matcha ice cream) in it.
😱😱😱 Thank you for letting me know! I've fixed it!
@@justonecookbook You're welcome, thank you for the recipe and video.
🙋🏻♀️
Is anybody else fantasizing about making these for their imaginary kids
Yuri on Ice, anyone???

Thanks for watching my video!
