I usually design machine parts and use many of the shortcuts enter key to repeat last command is very good. I like to use mouse gestures alot. But enter to use last command i learned from this guy. ThanksTTT.
Awwww yeah that is awesome - glad you liked that shortcut - I dont use it TOO often (since if you do ANYTHING in between, it doesnt work) - but in spots where I have to add fillets to a lot of different BODIES (or shells) - it's really a nice time saver!!
@@TooTallToby My pleasure. What do you think of this? Would it be helpful to add a "reset timer/try again" button on the same page as reveal/submit page? This way if you have a bad run and you want to go at it again, you don't have to go back a page or refresh the webpage. You can just click this new button.
Cool addition, Toby! But I wonder how many 1.5 second answers will start coming in? I hope folks play nice. Can't wait to go back to my early models and get my time down to under an hour. 😂 I'm not a SW user, but it seems to me that several SW features require more key presses and knowledge of the hidden tricks (like holding Shift) than Onshape does. Or am I being biased, and they are both equally easy to use for, say, novices who are just beginning?
So to question 1: I usually create a "minimum threshold" for the group average - so that people who do the challenges "offline" and submit a time less than a certain value (usually 30 seconds) wont log in with 1.5 seconds and mess up the averages. And to question 2: Yes - I agree. For an almost 30 year old program (1995-2025) its still SUPER CLUNKY and I'm definitely enjoying the elegant solutions found in Onshape!
I did a practice, not this one but couldn't get the correct answer for it and couldn't turn exercise off. Anyway, with the enter enter for the fillet command, does this work for any other or all feature commands? Would love to see a video of you without your amazing commentary for our benefit to see how fast you could do it, like if you were competing in one of your speed model competitions. Loving your videos, tips and tricks etc, thank you. I'll be losing access to SW soon so how easy/different is it to open my work in SW hobby, Onshape or Inventer that my work uses without losing some jobs that took me weeks to do, been a non pro like yourself?
Thanks Craig - very sorry to hear that you'll be losing access to sW soon, but this is a great time to get into Onshape! www.Onshape.com/free If you click over to the onshape youtube channel there is a playlist featuring TooTallToby, where i show you everything you need to get started!
NICE! Is this open to DesignSparK DSM, a dynamic modeller using Parasolid? The constraint based sketching option is very similar to Solidworks and Onshape's sketching but only where constraints assist in completion of the sketch to produce a face.
Definitely open to ANY 3D CAD or 3D modeling systems! You bring the CAD, we bring the challenges! If you sign up for an account and the system you're using isnt in the list, just choose OTHER for now, and then message us via CONTACT TOBY (on the website) or on the TTT discord channel. We'll get it added to the list so you can show represent on the leaderboards. And also - welcome to the community!
I mainly disable this setting because I often choose/prefer to sketch on a "skewed angle". This helps me quickly reference features and edges of the model that are "behind" the current sketch plane. And I find it disorienting when the view auto-jumps around, particularly when I am already zoomed in on the model and in the desired view orientation.
So glad you have done this Toby! 👋👋👋
Awwwww yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm excited to go back and do some of the earlier ones!

Brilliant Toby. Thanks a lot
Awww yeah thanks Kev!
My tip for the angled slot. You don't have to draw four lines. Draw a rectangle and remove one vertical constrain.
Oh I like that - Maybe I'll run it again - try to get even faster!
This is cool! I'll definitely use this--I know many of my first tries' times were terrible! Thank you!
Awww yeah that's awesome! Good luck Ken!
Nice addition.
Thanks QwertyCA!

I'm also going to retry this one.👍
Yeah I think I could probably still get a little faster on that one!

@TooTallToby Thanks, Toby! You da man.
U r genius 😂 I followed u r basic training
Awwww yeah thanks!!
Wow that was fast
I still think I could get sub-5 minutes - Maybe I'll try again!!

Hi, why don't you use automatic orient view to face u drawing on?

@TooTallToby that makes sense...you also mentioned this in one of your other videos 😉
