As a kid/teenager, I spent a couple of weeks in St. Augustine every summer. Your video was a walk down memory lane for me and reminded me that I need to get back and visit this great place as an adult!
As a snowbird (Ohio) who has a place in st aug, I recommend visits in Dec and Jan to see downtown during the City of Lights FestivaL I fell in love with the city years ago. Great for a relax filled visit to one of the most beautiful beaches, and great sights and food. There is no waterpark or amusement park nearby, so it's more "quiet". and that's a good thing.
As a native to St.Augustine we call it the old fort. I never knew how lucky i was as a child growing up in a beautiful place. Now, in my 40s, I'm taking it all in. I'm proud to call her home.
@@oldaloneandfarfromhome it definitely was! The dining room is stunning with all the Tiffany glass. The rooms were all so unique. But the professors were awesome, especially in the education department.
I was there about 4 years ago and only touched on all the places you've mentioned . Also in one day. You must be a retired HS History teacher! Love this stuff!
This gives one a good overview of St. Augustine”s Historic District. There is, as was said, so much more to see and do, and I highly recommend a stay in one of the many Bed and Breakfast’s in the District. I live here and have spent easily hundreds of hours exploring all that St. Augustine offers. And yet, every time I come into the District I find something new! While there are many tours that require a fee, one can also spend fabulous hours strolling around without spending anything. Oh, and let’s not forget the food! You will find amazing restaurants and bars all through the area. I have some favorites, but I must say that I have never had a bad meal! So co me, explore, and have fun in our beautiful St. Augustine.
One of the aspects that I regret about my visit was not taking the time to eat in one of the restaurants. You certainly make a good case for me to return to St. Augustine and discover all the rest that it offers! Thank you for watching and for leaving such a valuable comment!
I love St. Augustine. I have spent many months there. Recognized all the places you mentioned. Yes there is still more to see and places even I have not been to yet. I miss it so, I am hoping to go back in the fall, maybe just stay a while.
I have lived 45 minutes from St. Augustine for years. It is very beautiful when it is decorated for Christmas including many white lights. It is fun just to take a leisurely stroll and dine in one of the numerous restaurants. We have done that many times. I will say it gets extraordinarily hot and humid in the summer.
I had been there once when I was young, but never as an adult. I was happy to discover what it is like today! Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a comment!
I went to highschool at the Convent and church services in both the opulent Catholic Church and the quaint beautiful Episcopal High Church there. The school (in 65-67) when I went was still in the Convent itself.
St. Augustine is the oldest continuously inhabited European-established settlement in the contiguous United States. San Juan Puerto Rico is the oldest continuously inhabited European-establised settlement in the United States.
Yes, Ripley’s is still there. And you’re right about the beaches. The dunes and quiet spaces in the Guyana Preserve area are stunning. There are 3 parking lots along A1A South of Ponte Vedra that make it easy to be alone on the beach, if you want to.
A mention of the Minorcan population and their contribution to the old town would have enhanced this review and why St Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied European city in the United States.

Clearly the lack of people in these shots mean the footage was shot before 8 Am. Try to cross a street or walk St. George St. on a Saturday at noon ! You'll be trampled. BTW can't find a parking space for love or money !
I'm certain there are plenty of times when that is the case. It was February when I went, in the middle of the week. As you could see the crowds were non-existent then.
A bit of a stretch, just gotta know where to park. Huge garage right next to historic district, plus smaller lots scattered about. More to see than St George street.

I remember passing through one time when I was young, but I didn't really see much. It was a pleasure to spend a few hours there!
We've been there three times now and are going back in September. Absolutely love it there! So much to see and do!
I was so impressed with St. Augustine! I did not get to spend nearly enough time there!

Yeah, it’s a lovely time of year. If all you wanna do is sit in traffic and get shitty service at most of the restaurants 😂 have fun!
That was some fascinating history. I'm looking forward to our future visit here.
Thank you! It's a very fun and intriguing city!
Excellent overview for those of us who haven't yet visited but intend to soon!
Thank you so much! St. Augustine was a lot of fun, packed into a short amount of time.

Thank you for making the distinction.
The Ripley's museum? Is it still there? White sand beaches between Jacksonville and St.Augustine on A1A are perfect for a quiet beach walk.
I'm not certain if Ripley's is still there or not. I wish I could have made it out to the beaches, but I was only there for a few hours.

Saint Agustine or San Agustin? I think the original name is San Agustin! 😊
It was originally San Augustin.
