Great season, and I loved the Abroadin Japan collab part.
Chris is a comedy genius.
This is so unbelievably stunning and well-made!!
+Texan in Tokyo thanks Grace! I'm honored you watched it! My offer still stands to work together on some video if you think of a project you want to collab on. No pressure at all though. :-)
If ever you're in Nagoya, let me know. Maybe you, your husband, me and Lori, Rachel and Jun could all go do something together. (Bowling, karaoke, etc...)
Oh man this is bringing up some great memories from my trip to Kyoto. That area is absolutely beautiful!
That is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Need to visit asap
I miss Japan and its people. Kyoto is one of the best cities for photography as it offers so many temples and shrines
Japanese people are some of the most hospitable on the planet. I also agree that Kyoto is one of the best places to take photos as a tourist.
Can't wait to go back to Japan / Kyoto.
日本の素敵な映像をいつもアップロードしていただきありがたい事この上もないです。ありがとう!
i had one week travel in Kansai area last November and it didn't fail me. my friends were asking why I never went to Tokyo since I can just have a 4 day Kansai and 3 day Tokyo tour. But I have no regrets and follow my instinct to be in Kansai for a week. and Boom! a week is ry not enough, maybe a year too still not enough..was soo glad i got the chance to visit Japan, esp in Kansai as it offers a loooot of things and nature trips to explore..Japan def should be in your bucket list :-) thanks again Andrew :-)
Thank you for introducing Kyoto! 👍
My husband and I just binge-watched all of your Tour Japan videos. We are excited to be visiting Japan soon, and we've received some great tips from watching them! The cinematography is what drew us in, but the content is all that more valuable. You are absolutely talented. Thank you for sharing your craft with us!
+spoonfulosugah I'm glad you found them useful! Thanks for the comment! Have a great time in Japan!
Yay Chris!! What a nice surprise to see him. This part of Kyoto looks absolutely magical. What a glorious place.
I say anything and everything. New comer and REALLY enjoying your vids.
Fantastic footage as usual, Andrew! That steady cam work and those time-lapse scenes are breathtaking!
Thanks much Bobby!
Thank you very much for this video. It is so careful and delicious to watch. It brings back good memories. Please, keep up uploading them.
I'm so glad! Thanks much! - Andrew
😭 final episode of this season, sadness. Its been a great season in Kyoto, this video was a good way to end the season. Other places of interest I would suggest are Nijo-jo Castle where you can see/hear, the nightengale floors, and the Kyoto imperial palace is really cool, but its best to join a tour as you need to have permission to walk the grounds. 京都にたくさん所を見に行きます。ユーチューブシリースはとても綺麗だよ。どうもありがとうございますアンドリューさん。
Kyoto imperial palace ftw!!!
This video is gorgeous. As is the place. One of the locations I am most excited to go see. The Ghibli store is a must for us since I got my 2 1/2 year old son totally hooked on Totoro and Spirited Away! I will definitely be rewatching your videos until the next season is up--you always do such a great job of showcasing the beauty of the locations you go to. So many of the shots must take a lot of planning and time to set up, and it is worth it in and doesn't go unnoticed :)
Ghibli is my fav film studio. Can't decide if I like Laputa, Sen to Chihiro, or The Wind Rises better though.
I plan some of the shots in depth (time of day, equipment, etc...) but others are spur of the moment (like the senbei).
Ghibli is probably my favourite as well. Some of the films are so good that I forget I'm watching an animated movie. At the moment I'd have to say that Totoro is my favourite if only because it is so fun to watch with our little guy. The Wind Rises and Sen to Chihiro are really amazing though.
Japan is beautiful
All your videos are soooo beautifully made, I can't!
Loved season 3 and it helped me a lot planning trip, thank you! Can't wait for season 4 :)
I'm glad!!
Wow, have to say your video work is just incredible. I have loved reliving my trip to Japan through your videos, just brilliant.
I'm glad! Thanks!!
Excellent advice gonna do that on Thursday
Have been to Kyoto for 3 times. Love all the things around the city. Btw, I bought "Japan by bike" 2 years ago, and what you guys had achieved are so amazing that I wish I have the same experience. As a GUI designer , I also like your video quality and visual elements. Keep going and look forward to seeing your works.
Thanks!!! I was a graphic designer for 4 years! I love GUI design. Such a cool blend of function and art.
What sort of stuff so you design? (Apps, software interfaces, etc...?)
Currently, I design surveillance software interface and occasionally in charge of mobile apps. At times I use after effects for some transitions within the software and I find your great videos inspire me so much!
BTW, I like to take pictures too, and I would like to share some photos with you of Kyushu I visited for 9 days in 2015 , Hope you like them :D

your videos make me wish teleportation was real! Amazing, can't wait for season 4
Beautiful scenery
I'm just so glad I've found this guy again! his channel was my ultimate inspiration when I planned to go visit Japan, which I did last N0v 2017. I've subscribed to your Japan guide videos and simply blow me away. salute you for giving so much info in a fraction of time.
and yes, Japan is really an awesome place to travel, its like you travel back in time :-)
I've shared your videos to my friends who are planning to go there.. and hopefully, I'll be back this Hanami season.. will you still be in Japan by that time?
Wow sweet video dude. Smashed it.
I CAN'T WAIT TO CHECK IT OUT! Thanks for the beautiful videos! And omg that Abroad in Japan cameo was awesome!! 😂😂😂
Thanks for all the comments :-)
Happy In Japan you're welcome! I just finished my trip and it was sooo awesome!! I even got to see Kodai-ji all lit up at night! Maybe you can do an after-dark Kyoto visit video? :D
Wonderful capper for this season! I've been using your videos to help plan my trip to Japan in May. I'm visually impaired, so being able to get background info and see highlights without trying to wade through a sea of text is a huge help! Found you via the Just Japan podcast, BTW. Keep up the great work!
So glad the videos help! That's why I made them. All the best and have a great trip! -Andrew
Can't wait for the next season!! Thank u so much for your videos.
Chris made me laugh so much!
IRL he's one of the funniest/nicest guys ever.
I lived in Japan for 4 years and have been here several times.
Absolutely beautiful! excellent video as always!
Your profile picture is the best.
Great season! I especially loved this episode, I haven't seen much of this district. So awesome! The Abroadin Japan crossover was sick too.
+VinnytotheK thanks!!
Great episode! I'll have to take you up on the offer of watching all of the videos on the channel over again. Your work is always an inspiration for me.
Thanks Adam!!!
Great video.
I'll be travelling through japan for 3 weeks in April with some friends. everything is roughly planned, but only our few days in Kyoto we still need to decide on since there's a lot to see.
You've been a great help for getting ideas and I'll definitely try to convince the group to go to Higashiyama.
Thank you!
I'm glad! If you start at Kiyomizudera and then walk through the Higashiyama district, you'll be somewhat close to Nanzenji, Eikando, the philosopher's trail, and Ginkakuji. It would be a full day, but worthwhile.
+Happy In Japan We have followed your suggestion and it was most definitely worth it. Thanks a lot !
For anyone else thinking of doing this. ginkakuji closes around 17.00.
we made it, but if you go at a leisurely place, eat and stop at a lot of stands/shops, make sure you start early enough.
An outstanding film, amazing. Looking forward to visiting Kyoto soon.
I would love to go there one day. There's so much culture and history all around. Lovely episode as always!
Hi, I live near by Kyoto in Japan. Your footage color is great.thanks.
Just added it on my to-visit-list for November, I hope the weather will be just as gorgeous as it was during the taking of this video :D
Great video. I really enjoyed the view your provided of the shops. the people. and shrine- it was as if we ourselves were walking through the streets. I'm really excited for season 4, can't wait to find out which area you'll be covering.
Hopefully Fukuoka will make it in your list.
Simply stunning video again! Thanks Andrew! Loved narration of the video starting from the morning and ending in the evening. In the Kyoto "the womb of the Buddha" in Kiyomizudera is nice place to visit but I guess it is a bit too dark to make a video :).
Good recommendation and a great experience. Sadly, because of my chosen format and medium, ya... It's a bit dark to make a video of it.
Excellent video, we want more and more again video
So beautiful. Thank you! Looking forward fir the 4th season. Hahaaaa.
a great and beautiful video, very professional ;) and loved Chris part :D
Great video. I really enjoyed it.
Really is such a cool spot in Kyoto. Maybe I should try going there at sunrise sometime.
I'd love to see the behind the scenes of filming these. I wouldn't be opposed to longer videos either with more commentary :) Something very calming and serene about the way you guys present your videos makes it very easy to listen to and watch.
Thanks for the feedback! Making a BTS episodes for each season is our plan for future seasons. ... Though you may still enjoy the super secret bonus outtakes videos being released next week ^_^ (this is the first time I've ever mentioned it anywhere btw). Filming these episodes is usually a fine balance of spontaneous shots in the moment and highly planned location captures.
Hello, may I make a suggestion? I really like these videos, but I wish they were longer. About 7-10 minutes long. I'd also like to learn more about the history and culture. I'm glad you tell us a little but in the first minute of the video, but throughout the montage, I think it would be nice to hear a voice over from time to time. You could say "This is where the locals..." or "This place has numerous of english speakers." Just a suggestion, but I'll still be watching. Thank you :)
Another really well-done video. Looking forward to season 4 (I wonder what prefecture you're going to?)
Yes I wonder... ^_^
I wish i had a magical object that teleports me to Japan... Or just money. Anyway, great video!
That joke with Chris was awesome.
Money... What's that???
Yes! In real life Chris is one of the nicest and funniest guys you'll ever meet. Definitely sub his channel and show support.
Already subbed to him since i first watched a video he made (same with you btw).
Just went there last month and I really enjoyed walking through Higashiyama-district again! But my favorite sightseeing spot (by day) is still the Nijo-jo ♥ and in the evening watching the sunset from 'Sky Garden' at the top of Kyoto-Station. This turned out to be something I do every time ;-)
+Sina goes Sky Garden on Kyoto Station is amazing. Good recommendation!
Randomly stumbling into Chris in another Japan-related video haha.
Thrilling .. thank you
Video is pretty amazing.
Your vids are so beautifully done!
thank you
I never knew about that big statue! But then I haven't explored Higashiyama as much as I would like to of. I've only really explored the preserved streets, Kiyomizudera, Yasaka Pagoda, Yasaka Shrine and Maruyama Park..
Such a shame that this series is coming to an end. It was a very beautifully done series that captured the beauty that is Kyoto. Some more places in Kyoto that I would love to see though would be some of the more outer areas like Ohara, Kibune and Kurama. As well as Amanohashidate in Northern Kyoto prefecture and of course, Uji City!
Ohara is amazing! Almost made the list, but with only 6eps I wanted to cover the very basics for potential first time visitors. I up-voted your comment and hope others read your recs.
I went to Ohara during my first trip to Kyoto and it was amazing because it was my first taste of a more rural side to Japan. This was also during the autumn foliage and the colours were just amazing!
I even managed to make my way to Otonashi no Taki where I had one of my best experiences in all of Japan when I met a lovely elderly Japanese lady and her daughter.
+Kari Haruka I've never met more friendly and hospitable people than while traveling trough rural Japan.
looks great
Your shots are so stable!! =)))
It's a combo of having a Blackbird Camera Stabilizer and using stabilization software :-)
AbroadInJapan! hahaha
Amazing! I have to go there next year!!! :D
Awesome place, awesomely shot!
Seriously, how do you do this? Really enjoyed it again.
+RealDutchLady Thanks! Which shot were you wondering about? Most of my tricks include a Blackbird Camera Stabilizer, getting to a location really really early, and a lot of coffee. :)
:D
The ones where it looks like you're 'flying' through the streets, because the camera glides along so smoothly. Must be that stabilizer. Or the coffee. :p
Great vid! :) once in Kyoto it might be worthwile to visit the Nijo castle :)
Yes! This is so true! I completely recommend visiting Nijo castle as well. It barely missed the cut to have a full episode made of it.
Nice video!
always AWSOME*_* thank you.
Ok, got a few cities to visit, loads of useful tips and a lot of photos to take. Now I only need a way to go to Japan that doesn't imply bankruptcy. A Portuguese Galleon perhaps...
Ha!
I hope you can get here! Where are you from?
+Happy In Japan
I hope it too! I live in Italy and every young lad here would like to visit the "Land of the Rising Sun" someday. However few of us can embark themselves on this epic journey, mainly because of language and economic barriers. At least we can rely on your videos to taste some delicious Japan. Keep up the good work, we count on you. ;)
京都市に来たいですよ! DX
Yes! Come on!
Beautiful video and conclusion to the Kyoto series! Are you going to be at the Osaka meet up in a few weeks? I would love to buy you a drink to thank you for basically planning my trip around Kyoto. If not, do you have a donation fund?
Hey! I didn't know about the Osaka meet-up. When/where is it. I'll be at the Tokyo YT hanami on Apr2 though. :-D
***** It's the weekend after the Tokyo hanami. I'll be at both! See you there!
facebook.com/events/199651160385034/
+hikkipedia Perfect! See you there! ^_^
Awesome video!
Thank!
+Happy In Japan You're welcome! ♡ your videos!
Saihō_ji temple is an awesome place to visit too ;3
Yes!! Thanks!
1. I feel bad he didn't get to use his magical time machine.
2. I have that Totoro clock.
Hi i have been watching your videos, i would like to ask what lenses are you using for this shots? and how can you stabilize your shots without using software?
Hi, I use a Tamron 24-70 for 90% of shots and a Nikkor 70-200 for telephoto shots. If you don't have access to software that can stabilize footage then some sort of gimbal system would be required like a glidecam or electric gimbal. I often use software to stabilize handheld or imperfect shots. I highly recommend using the Warp Stabilize effect in Adobe Premiere. Also I often manually set track points in After Effects and stabilize position and rotation errors that way. Hope that helps! Andrew
Love these! but I do wish you had one more format, longer and less edited, cause these are eye and ear candy but sometimes I just want to lose myself in something like a guided tour ~15 min kinda vloggy like
Thanks for this insight. It's always hard to know what viewers actually want. If you read this, I'd love to know if the Fuji Sea to Summit video and also the Snow Monkey video in the "epic adventures" playlist are more what you're looking for. Hope to hear back! Andrew
+Happy In Japan that's it the snow monkey video for me was the absolute best, loved it, I think it had the better balance, the fact that it was not a regular thing just means that if you'll ever do more they will get even better and better and I'm so looking forward to it.
Is sannenzaka and ninnenzaka Higashiyama district?
great VID !!!! luv the editing !! Just wondering if u guys had opportunity to be entertain by a geisha that would be interesting. Anyway, cant wait for season 4 Jya ne
Thanks still on my bucket list! I know that 2minJapan has though. He made a great video about it in his channel. Good to hear from you. Andrew
+Happy In Japan P.S. pls. say "hi" to Lori !!!
How about posting the list of locations we just saw so we can go see them ourselves
It starts at Kiyomizudera, goes through the Higashiyama District, and ends at Maruyama park. Pretty much everything in between is worthwhile.
Happy In Japan thank you, I just subscribed. I'm having a hard time making tours for the cities. No app seems to intelligent. That's why I'm looking for manageable lists of sites to see per day.
Personally I usually use a combination of japan-guide.com website to know what to see and get up to date info on the locations (note: I work there) and then Google Maps to know how to get to each place. I made a video called "Top 5 Things to Do in Kyoto" for the japan-guide.com youtube channel which you may find helpful as well.
Happy In Japan thank you I'm looking at all those links and your videos. Just hard to know what is convenient to group together when using the metro
May i know the store name in this video 2:21
do you use your bare hands to film? my hands are too shaky and the shots end up no bueno. :(
For the moving shots I use a Blackbird Camera Stabilizer.
シーズン4も すごーく楽しみにしています♪♪
少々お待ちください(^_^)
The place I would recommend is the 1001 Buddha statues. (Sanjusangendo Temple)
No pictures allowed, so you are forced to properly burn it into your memory xD
Looking forward to S4!
TBH I actually love it when photography isn't allowed at places. Maybe it's just a relief because I can out my camera away, but there's something special about an experience you HAVE to remember.
Totally agree! :D
That Abroad in Japan cameo was awesome! XD
I wish I had a magical device that warps me back to the Edo period. Does Chris have any more of them?
+PandoraDaFoxx
I wasn't expecting that! XD Chris is always the best. Go check his tour out on "Odigo Travel" channel, it's so fun to watch.
I agree with Andrea
+キャットの随想♡ agreed.
According to MytrueancestryDNA, I am related to the Japanese Emperor Higashiyama (1687-1709). Less than 1% DNA. His DNA marker: (D1b1a2b1a1).
Hi! What month was this?
what is the area called in 2:57?
JP De Guzman Kodaiji Temple
season 4 please B)
abroad!
I know right!??
Love this channel, awaiting the new season anxiously
Lol Chris
I agree.
niiiiiiiiiiiiiice
Thanks!
how can someone deslike this video?
+Larissa Schmitz Ha! Thanks for the compliment. I think some people are hoping to find a vlog where I talk to the camera self-style as I walk around the location.
2:58 is kodaiji temple??
+klis jo you got it. yes.
No longer hidden.
i really love your videos but i feel like you overuse the orange flashing transition effect, it kind of distracts from the footage if you do it a lot. just my onion
Thanks for the feedback. We were going for a dreamy, memory-like feeling with the light leak transition but perhaps over did it.
.
This can't be Japan? Where are all the vending machines?
Cleverly hidden my friend... Fear not they are still there :-)
*****
Oh I'd imagined they were just banned in the historical areas. What a nice compromise!
