That moment, after you've had an engine down to nuts and bolts, rebuilt it, turned it over, and IT FIRES! "IGOR IT'S ALIIIIVEEEE" Mwa ha ha ha ha ha! Thanks for sharing a window to your joy with us 👍. Can't wait to get my hands on a landrover santana 3.4l 6cyl diesel, get it back within tollerance, and leave it smartly painted and ticking away! Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks for your kind comments :) that moment, or the anticipation of that moment can provide months or even years of motivation. We clearly share the same mental problems :)
Thanks bud. Yeah it's cool to see. It's funny I wouldn't have had the patients for big projects as a youngster. Funny how this changes as you get older
Im doing a 300TDI rebuild , probably going to cost about £1500 , but i did get all the alloy parts vapour blasted . New pistons , rebore , crank polished , cylinder head checked and new turbo cartridge and lots of other parts changed.

@@lozl Luckily his engine was in pretty good condition as the previous owner had oiled the bores. It didn't need many parts and looked very nice cleaned and painted. It was extremely quiet when it 1st started up too.

What an excellent video...well done, you! Regarding the parts cost...were the new pistons and other bits genuine Land Rover or did you go with BritPart or parts from Turner's, or...? Thanks so much! ~Pete
You're too kind, manh thanks for comment. I went with turner engineering. I didnt question where they got parts from to be honest. I was happy with their statement that the parts they sell are the parts they use in their engine rebuilds. I have found turner to be very good. One piston was slightly damaged in transit, they sent another one very quickly.
@@lozl thanks for the quick reply…that’s super helpful information. I’m in the States and am going to do a rebuild on my ‘83 2.25 diesel. Going to convert it to a petrol AND use a crank and conrods for a 2.5 litre. Planning to use Turner’s for parts and perhaps rebuild the used 8:1 petrol head that I bought.
@@PDLiggett sounds like an excellent project! I've heard the petrol is an all round nicer engine to live with. Engine building is my favorite part of an restoration. Enjoy :)
@@DEUTZ_V8 I'm afraid I couldn't say. I've been around engines a while but this is the only 4 cylinder landrover engine I've done. I would bet the 5 main is the stronger engine though

A hell of a lot of work and effort condensed into 6 minutes! 😎 it’s a cracking effort man, must be bonkers watching this one back!

That sounds very good value. I might look into vapour blasting for my next engine project. Good for bare aluminium as I understand it?

One of my friends recently rebuilt a 2.25l for his Series 2 Landy. Only done 60k from new but had been sitting for years
@@jaggass cool! It's a lot of fun, I love building engines. This was a really nice simple one too. Very satisfying when you first start it up
@@lozl That's what my friend said about the 2.25. He did say it should have been referred to as a 2.3 as it's 2286cc.
@@jaggass yeah good point. I never worked out what this one was, but at 60 thou over (I think it was 60 thou...) it will be over 2.3

The key to overhauling an engine is....timing.
