Last summer I travelled 1200km from the south of Switzerland just to see you guys play at Dokk'em Open Air. Being a huge fan of King Diamond it was more than great,. The thing that impressed me more of that show was the performance of the whole band, yours in the first place. You are extremely tight, an absolutely stunning musician. Thank you for the awesome work Matt, you are great! Keep it up with the videos, I am really enjoying it!
Matt Thompson is such a talented drummer. I loved watching his 70's swinging eighth note parts and his open hi hat and various accented drums fills especially. Kim ruzz was an exceptionally talented drum line writer.
Fell in love with Mercyful Fate in the 80´s not only for the music, but for the complexity in music design in every instrument, Kim did a fine work but your seasoning and spice on this drumming took it into another level. Never get tired of watching this footage, very rare to find, thanks Matt
I don’t have that kit with me, it’s in storage far away but I can tell you what it is: TAMA Starclassic maple in piano black. Kicks are 22x18, toms are 10, 12, 13, 14, the two floor toms are 16 and 18. The snare is a 6 1/2 SLP brass. Cymbals are all Paiste, mostly Rudes.
The only time we played songs from House of God was during that tour and I took no video, but some exists, I know there is some from St. Petersburg and some from Thessaloniki. Any video from the USA leg of that tour was John Hebert on drums.
@@mattthompsondrums Thanks Matt! I'm assuming you use them to start the keyboards during intros. So they are iPads, with Alesis software? I'd love to see you start a song out with them so I can understand what you are doing with them, thanks!
There’s an app on the iPad (I forget the name, it always goes in one ear and out the other) that you can load audio into and start with buttons. For intros or songs with important keys, I just push the corresponding button on the screen. The Alesis “idock” allows the iPad to i/o the proper cables.
Matt what did you use to build your double bass stamina? King Diamond is my favorite bands and I don’t play the songs because my left leg get fatigued and then I go out of time. Would like to know some tips if you know of any you used.
If your leg is fatiguing, I’d say make sure there is nothing medically wrong. It that is ruled out...play a lot. Eat right and exercise. Walk, run, bike. And make sure you are actively thinking about playing with a relaxed technique while you are playing. As for form: make sure your ankles are in front of your knees and not directly under them, that your legs are arranged comfortably, like they would be if you were sitting relaxed in a chair.
So damn good. Kim Ruzz had this unique snazz in his playing. Your version has some nice touches to it while still staying true to Kim.

Love these vids, thanks Matt for posting!! Incredible playing! What are those Alesis tablets on your left?? There are two of them?
They are docks for iPads. I start the intros. There are two in case one goes down.

RUDE is a perfect name for those cymbals🤘
Is that a 22 on the far right?
Jasper Jenkins 20
@@mattthompsondrums
It sounds RUDE for sure!!!
I own 90 pAisTe cymbals
But only 3 are Rude.
1 being a 22.
A 20 is now on the WANT list.
Thanks!!
Love the video do you play with
click 😊
Only on songs where keyboard is vital to the song, like The Eye, and Behind These Walls (last two tours). Usually 2 or 3 songs a tour. Not this song.
mattthompsondrums thanks man love you drumming 🤘😊🤘 cant wait for more drum cam
