If you turn off tc your bike will power wheelie in first and second too. You can see in the vid it's not lit up. Meaning tc is on. If you hold it down for 5 sec and it's lit, that means it's off.
I know, I totally forgot that you have to turn the freaking tc off for every ride. I also forget it has a quick shifter because I'm not used to having one. lol I just naturally grab the clutch.
Toggling the TC each ride is so annoying! I have heard you can mod the bike to keep it turned off. I bet the new version of this bike will have more control for this on the display.

I'm selling my bike to get a Tenere 700. I was heavily considering the 690 SMC-R or Enduro R, but I chose T7 because it has a windshield, it's a little bit better for touring, Japanese reliability and couple other reasons.
On the decel.. {while using the quick-shifter} you'll know if it's activated by having full closed throttle tube & if it blips the throttle for you.. then its on👍 Myself I've found clicking down into 1st with the quick-shifter I've accidentally hit neutral several times { so I tend to clutch it down into 1st just before a complete stop On the way up it doesn't matter., you can hold it wide open from 2nd through 6th & just click up at whatever RPM you like the sound of.. You will do this from 1st onwards in the future but it runs through the gears so quickly that I'm thinking start holding it wide open in 2nd onward at first until you get the muscle memory BTW.. the clutch will last 5 times longer when you get used to this quick-shifter = sorta re-training the brain or look at it as "a second option" that reduces wear & tear on the clutch plates
The "quick-shifter" works just fine at 1/4 open throttle or 1/2 open throttle or 3/4 open or full wide open., & on the down shifts I find its ok at a little bit of throttle open as I'm shifting down but it works best in the closed position & it auto blips the throttle for you to rev match perfectly If possible.. at the moment you shift without using the clutch, have the throttle open to a certain position & don't be twisting it more open at this moment you shift = so kinda hesitate your throttle hand at the moment of shifting & then continue opening or closing the throttle.. That's my best description KTM 6axis system is pretty good, so for my absolute fastest off the line take offs {0-60mph in 3 seconds} I keep anti wheelie on & dump everything full wide open right off the line since it won't cartwheel backwards, it hovers the front wheel a foot off the ground in acceleration
Also, the YZ's so much lighter weight, feels wicked raw and wild. The KTM is a factory street bike which is more refined, not as raw and wicked as the YZ. You have to own both!
You want a bonkers Sumo, set up a 500 EXC-F. Or just look up the guy that's gone big bore and turbo on his Yamaha 450, moving toward making 160 horsepower with it.
Did you notice any engine heat reduction with the perform mods on the 690? I changed out the exhaust which helped, buf the engine is still throwing a ton of heat on me.
14 tooth on the front for sure. Leave the rear as it is. You have the TC on and you're using the clutch. Quickshifter adds a whole new level of fast on any bike.

@@CycleCruza I would say if it runs good leave it how it is I had a Z125 modified and the instructions said to get a different plug. Or you could look at the plug after 50 or 100 miles for the color, but if it runs good I wouldn't mess with it

The KTM is the better bike simply because you can ride it. A 450 maintance is just too much, it's fine in the beginning because you are excited, etc. But after the 3rd oil change, it gets old quick. I mean, that's why yours was in the garage over a year. A bike is to be ridden and not to be maintained.
The 690 engine in 2019 was modified for more top end power and a little less bottom power so i get that. I really want to mod out a yz450 supermoto but not til its my 3rd bike in the garage just cuz of the maintenance intervals
I'm pretty sure you've givin it more thought about the sprocket size more then you were letting on. However with that being said, In my opinion you should give it that last little touch of the masterpiece!! ,... just a thought?! ATGATT
I have ridden a 690 dual sport version and the crf 450L and even between those two bikes the honda felt way lighter and could manuver it better, 690 felt more solid due to the weight
I think you’re confusing gearing and torque. The 690 has more torque than your 450 by a lot. You seem to prefer short gearing which is more of a wheelie set up than a cruising set up.
Think your bike is locked for tuning at low rpm because of euro 5. if you got the euro 4 model then you would had the full potensial in the lower rev range. And if you got the older euro 3 you would even have mor low end torque cause of the longer stroke of the engine.
The KTM is still a sleepy little princess without a 15t front sprocket or a 15/45 ;) ...And you are still comparing the KTM to the YZ with the traction control on, LOL. Careful with those oil changes, I do mine every 2k miles. ;)
… u literally can’t compare that bikes , u got to get a ktm 450 , … the 690 is if u wanna win a race , 690 sm’s is todays standard , I mean people want to be on the podium guy ! 😀♥️
YZ is an ultimate urban hooligan bike. 690 is great too but I feel the YZ has the edge. if you ever get a chance to ride a 450 conversion you will understand.
2 different bikes for different purposes. The KTM is a far better street bike and the YZ is a much better off road bike. Change the gearing on the KTM and you may think differently.
Man.. when I went to school at MMI our DynoJet training was done on a DRZ400SM with full Yoshi exhaust, 3x5 airbox mod, and DynoJet stage 3 carb kit.. that thing was pushing 47+hp.. when I was finally able to buy one I did the same mods and I can almost power wheelie in third gear.. love my DRZ400SM, but I have to sell it.. anyone interested???
I will have to second the comment mentioned about power wheelies Your Bosch 6axis IMU traction control is on You'd be cartwheeling backwards onto your *ss several times already if it wasn't I tend to keep the traction control on myself., I've of course played around with it off in good weather now & then {& on the 1290R the menu is easier to navigate} but the unit itself is the same= & it keeps me safe so I like it (Yes a little toe pressure ends an unexpected wheelie for the most part, but the Bosch unit is pretty good all things considered= in the rain especially
Weird because my 2023 smcr 690 with tekmo header + akropovic and filter + sas delete and map.. power wheelies with TC on or off 2nd and 3rd gear no clutch.. I'm only 80kg though.. and I have had 134mph out of it probably could of got a couple mph more
I keep forgetting that you have to turn off the tc for every single freaking ride. Next time I ride I will remove the tc, I need to get into the habit. It will power wheelie but will never be as raw and will feeling as the YZ which feels like a rocket mountain bike compared to the 690. It only weighs to 265 lbs with a tank full of fuel.
Yeah, it does make a difference, but yeah maybe the yz feels more raw, I don't doubt that, but I still think for overall 90% street bike 10% jumps and curbs and stairs etc the ktm is a better all rounder, you should ask a friend to ride one and race them against each other would be interesting video? What does the yz top out at? I'm sure the ktm will sit much more comfortably at 80-85mph for highway and be slightly more comfortable? Only reason I went for ktm 690 over a crf450sm was solely better at 80-100mph riding for motorway etc as I have to do like 16 miles total each day on motorway Love your content though dude 👌

I don't hate the KTM at all except having to cut the traction control every time you ride it. You must be doing a lot of maintenance on the KTM 530 exc-r?
@@CycleCruza shame on me , my 2010 530 exc-r , I only did the oil changes , never checked the valve gaps , ( I don’t race) , in fact I bought the 530 to make it into a sm , but it never worked out , because not so many tracks around , & I started to love the off road tires & the real off road cape abilities , u know the black wheelie scene have ‘em too , anyway the exhaust sound of the 530 is gorgeous 😀♥️

just by watching the speedometer the SMCR is faster 0-60 haha i crank the throttle on 1st-3rd with my 701 no clutch and can no clutch wheelie all the way to 60mph...
All that mod and you say it is at 100%. What aboot a turbo? why don't you slap a turbocharger on it? I would be more impressed to see a turbo spooled ktm. You got the money. Do it and make it more of a beast that you claimed. Turocharge it!
It doesn't need more power, it has more power than you need for a supermoto. I just need to remember to remove the traction control every time I start the bike, the one thing I hate about this bike.

Dude turbocharged his Yamaha 450. His big bore now, cryogenic treated the block and transmission, custom crank and rod, runs 14:1 comp, ported and big valve, plans to get about 160 horsepower.
Lol.. I see everyone has commented already (on everything I was going to mention) Truth.. it took me a while to get used to the up/down quick-shifter as well.. "Have to sorta pick a throttle position you are comfortable with & hold it there .." = "while clicking up as needed.." (Is my best description of how to use the quick-shifter)=(so if you dump the clutch off the line but have the throttle tube at 50% well then that's ok, hold it at 50% the entire time as your clicking up & up & up again as it hits the same RPM & Then in the future modify that a smidgen.. maybe its 50% throttle open off the line & then you click up into 2nd., but while you're in 2nd you twist it full wide open.. then continue clicking up & up & up at the same RPM as needed Of course 6th sorta runs out eventually I'm not sure about 2nd gen or 3rd gen quick-shifters {but on my 1290R it doesn't care about using the clutch or what RPM its at., although it kinda doesn't like the throttle tube to be in transition when I'm shifting {in that split second} so I pick a position on the throttle & hold it there

Toggling the TC each ride is so annoying! I have heard you can mod the bike to keep it turned off. I bet the new version of this bike will have more control for this on the display.

I'm selling my bike to get a Tenere 700. I was heavily considering the 690 SMC-R or Enduro R, but I chose T7 because it has a windshield, it's a little bit better for touring, Japanese reliability and couple other reasons.
Check out Pol Tarrés and see what he's done with the T7 model. Absolutely nuts.

The bike looks and sounds great!
On the decel.. {while using the quick-shifter} you'll know if it's activated by having full closed throttle tube & if it blips the throttle for you.. then its on👍
Myself I've found clicking down into 1st with the quick-shifter I've accidentally hit neutral several times { so I tend to clutch it down into 1st just before a complete stop
On the way up it doesn't matter., you can hold it wide open from 2nd through 6th & just click up at whatever RPM you like the sound of..
You will do this from 1st onwards in the future but it runs through the gears so quickly that I'm thinking start holding it wide open in 2nd onward at first until you get the muscle memory
BTW.. the clutch will last 5 times longer when you get used to this quick-shifter = sorta re-training the brain or look at it as "a second option" that reduces wear & tear on the clutch plates
The "quick-shifter" works just fine at 1/4 open throttle or 1/2 open throttle or 3/4 open or full wide open., & on the down shifts I find its ok at a little bit of throttle open as I'm shifting down but it works best in the closed position & it auto blips the throttle for you to rev match perfectly
If possible.. at the moment you shift without using the clutch, have the throttle open to a certain position & don't be twisting it more open at this moment you shift = so kinda hesitate your throttle hand at the moment of shifting & then continue opening or closing the throttle..
That's my best description
KTM 6axis system is pretty good, so for my absolute fastest off the line take offs {0-60mph in 3 seconds} I keep anti wheelie on & dump everything full wide open right off the line since it won't cartwheel backwards, it hovers the front wheel a foot off the ground in acceleration

Hands down it be the YZ450 supermoto cuz it's pure ridiculous hooligan joy and it's basically a unleashed monster that's street legal.
Question:KTM 690 smr have low fuel light or anything to let you know is low fuel?
Well ones a motocross race bike, of course it's faster off the line. The difference is the 690 engine is almost as fast and will last 10x as long.
Also, the YZ's so much lighter weight, feels wicked raw and wild. The KTM is a factory street bike which is more refined, not as raw and wicked as the YZ. You have to own both!
You want a bonkers Sumo, set up a 500 EXC-F.
Or just look up the guy that's gone big bore and turbo on his Yamaha 450, moving toward making 160 horsepower with it.
Did you notice any engine heat reduction with the perform mods on the 690? I changed out the exhaust which helped, buf the engine is still throwing a ton of heat on me.

14 tooth on the front for sure. Leave the rear as it is. You have the TC on and you're using the clutch. Quickshifter adds a whole new level of fast on any bike.

Or you could look at the plug after 50 or 100 miles for the color, but if it runs good I wouldn't mess with it

It depends what your using it for. One is going to be better for the street and one is going to be better off road.

The KTM is the better bike simply because you can ride it. A 450 maintance is just too much, it's fine in the beginning because you are excited, etc.
But after the 3rd oil change, it gets old quick. I mean, that's why yours was in the garage over a year.
A bike is to be ridden and not to be maintained.
The YZ is just meant to be a "dessert bike," not a main bike. I love it but its nice to ride withe KTM without thinking about maintenance.

The 690 engine in 2019 was modified for more top end power and a little less bottom power so i get that. I really want to mod out a yz450 supermoto but not til its my 3rd bike in the garage just cuz of the maintenance intervals
I'm pretty sure you've givin it more thought about the sprocket size more then you were letting on. However with that being said, In my opinion you should give it that last little touch of the masterpiece!! ,... just a thought?!

You can’t compare an actual supermoto to a street bike with a supermoto make up on lol.
I have ridden a 690 dual sport version and the crf 450L and even between those two bikes the honda felt way lighter and could manuver it better, 690 felt more solid due to the weight
Yeah crf450l is much lighter-weight, it is too bad Honda won't make a supermoto version. However, this 690 supermoto is awesome.

If you really want more torque..you can always change the front and rear sprockets for more speed or torque.
I think you’re confusing gearing and torque. The 690 has more torque than your 450 by a lot. You seem to prefer short gearing which is more of a wheelie set up than a cruising set up.

Think your bike is locked for tuning at low rpm because of euro 5. if you got the euro 4 model then you would had the full potensial in the lower rev range.
And if you got the older euro 3 you would even have mor low end torque cause of the longer stroke of the engine.

YZ is an ultimate urban hooligan bike. 690 is great too but I feel the YZ has the edge. if you ever get a chance to ride a 450 conversion you will understand.
2 different bikes for different purposes. The KTM is a far better street bike and the YZ is a much better off road bike. Change the gearing on the KTM and you may think differently.

Man.. when I went to school at MMI our DynoJet training was done on a DRZ400SM with full Yoshi exhaust, 3x5 airbox mod, and DynoJet stage 3 carb kit.. that thing was pushing 47+hp.. when I was finally able to buy one I did the same mods and I can almost power wheelie in third gear.. love my DRZ400SM, but I have to sell it.. anyone interested???

I tend to keep the traction control on myself., I've of course played around with it off in good weather now & then {& on the 1290R the menu is easier to navigate} but the unit itself is the same= & it keeps me safe so I like it
(Yes a little toe pressure ends an unexpected wheelie for the most part, but the Bosch unit is pretty good all things considered= in the rain especially
Weird because my 2023 smcr 690 with tekmo header + akropovic and filter + sas delete and map.. power wheelies with TC on or off 2nd and 3rd gear no clutch.. I'm only 80kg though.. and I have had 134mph out of it probably could of got a couple mph more
I keep forgetting that you have to turn off the tc for every single freaking ride. Next time I ride I will remove the tc, I need to get into the habit. It will power wheelie but will never be as raw and will feeling as the YZ which feels like a rocket mountain bike compared to the 690. It only weighs to 265 lbs with a tank full of fuel.
Yeah, it does make a difference, but yeah maybe the yz feels more raw, I don't doubt that, but I still think for overall 90% street bike 10% jumps and curbs and stairs etc the ktm is a better all rounder, you should ask a friend to ride one and race them against each other would be interesting video?

Only reason I went for ktm 690 over a crf450sm was solely better at 80-100mph riding for motorway etc as I have to do like 16 miles total each day on motorway

It doesn't need more power, it has more power than you need for a supermoto. I just need to remember to remove the traction control every time I start the bike, the one thing I hate about this bike.

Dude turbocharged his Yamaha 450. His big bore now, cryogenic treated the block and transmission, custom crank and rod, runs 14:1 comp, ported and big valve, plans to get about 160 horsepower.

Truth.. it took me a while to get used to the up/down quick-shifter as well..

(Is my best description of how to use the quick-shifter)=(so if you dump the clutch off the line but have the throttle tube at 50% well then that's ok, hold it at 50% the entire time as your clicking up & up & up again as it hits the same RPM
& Then in the future modify that a smidgen.. maybe its 50% throttle open off the line & then you click up into 2nd., but while you're in 2nd you twist it full wide open.. then continue clicking up & up & up at the same RPM as needed
Of course 6th sorta runs out eventually
I'm not sure about 2nd gen or 3rd gen quick-shifters {but on my 1290R it doesn't care about using the clutch or what RPM its at., although it kinda doesn't like the throttle tube to be in transition when I'm shifting {in that split second} so I pick a position on the throttle & hold it there
