I believe the "Joel sad" shot was shown in a recent "HBO Max First Look" montage. If the shot had gone on for one more second, you'd hear him say, "I saved her". Basically, this therapy session is Joel's confession scene from the opening of the game, but instead of talking to Tommy, he's talking to Catherine O'Hara who is playing a new character.

@@TheHorrorShowChannel During season 1, Neil and Craig have said a big point of adapting the game to the screen was to not just do a carbon copy but change things to (hopefully) better serve the story and characters. Especially within the format of a televised narrative. I think Joel telling his story and his motives to a therapist (which doesn't necessarily mean "instead of Tommy") is very interesting and exciting. I can't wait for Catherine to inevitably kill the role.

If THAT SCENE happens super early in the season just to appease gamers, there will be a huge drop in viewership from TV audiences who love Pedro Pascal. It’s frustrating, but it’s true. You have to have those fans who just watch the TV show to want to continue the show after IT. HAPPENS. I’m sure HBO and the creators know this, and they’ll act accordingly. I could see that scene coming in the penultimate episode. This is TV, it’s a different medium-gamers will have to accept that they have to cater to both gamers and non-gamers.

The only criticism i had of the game is i think the thing that fueled all the hatred from the people who took it too far and just didn't have the self awareness to realize this was their actual gripe. The game didnt give us anytime to connect to abby before she commits the inciting incident of the game. For a lot of players that led to resentment that the game's story made us play as abby for long stretches because they hated her because of the inciting incident. Me personally, i had to put the game away for awhile to get over my feelings and give the game a fairer shake. I hope druckmann and mazin at least heard that criticism over the din of the grifters and were able to adjust the structure of the plot accordingly for the show.

I disagree. For the story to work when playing as Ellie, we have to hate Abby. That's the whole point. Otherwise, the hero's motivation for slaughtering a huge group of people won't connect with us empathetically.

@@beden653 you can do that and not make players completely resent and hate the time they don't play as ellie. It could just be as simple as doing the important firefly hospital flashback at the beginning to show abby's motivation and then show her arriving outside jackson. My point is the plot structure made some players hate abby too much to the point it ruined the rest of the game for them. You can give the player some connection to abby without ruining ellie's pov of the thing. If we're gonna play as abby for half the game that opening incident shouldn't make us hate her so much we can't enjoy massive parts of the game.

@@justarandomveryintelligent8934 If we knew Abby's motivation or her team's plans, Ellie's story wouldn't have worked, I say again. They gave us a little bit of Abby to play with, introducing her as the second main character, put her under stress, giving us the opportunity to feel her emotions in the moment.
The fact that some people couldn't coolly assess the situation after 20 hours of gameplay and an endless number of hints, then these are questions for the players.
And yes, we're supposed to hate Abby for killing Joel, of course, that's in the game's design. But we have to be prepared for everything to have an explanation, because when playing as Ellie. We as a player try to find any explanation in notes, dialogue, scenes with team members.
There were people who hated the ending of the first TLOU because of Joel's actions. Not everyone is ready to put up with the actions of fictional characters, even if they are justified, this is a classic and there is no way around it. And yes, if a person hates the killing of a character, even if it is completely justified on both sides, just because it is their favorite character and they are not ready to change their position after tens of hours of receiving all the information, then it's the player's problem. This is not news, it was in all the media before.

You're supposed to hate Abby, that's what drives Ellie(the player) for the entire first half of the game. The game isn't your typical generic sequel which is why people still talk about it and the reason why people had such a visceral reaction to the game. Its brilliant storytelling.
