My 5 yr old caught his first fish last week. It was a small Rudd out the canal in Leicester, England. He put the bait on (bread), flipped the bail arm, did a small gentle cast, and flipped the bail arm back and wound in some slack. He sat n watched the float for about 2mins(amazing concentration for a 5yr old), then ‘boop………..BOOOP!’ He struck into to it and landed it. I was soo proud

I’m not sure how well she remembers it…but I definitely remember when my niece was 4, and caught her first bass. I remember the exact spot it was and what direction she casted toward…and that it was 1lb 9oz and she caught it using a purple Quantum rod and reel with a Rapala DT Fat1 in Chartreuse Purple Shiner(the one with the scale pattern, not the more common version of that color).
So whether she’ll remember it when she’s grown or not, memories were definitely made!! Pretty sure her dad still has the lure tucked away somewhere with a pic from her catch, and it was about 11 years ago!!

Yes I remember when my dad took me fishing at night, when I was 4-5 and threw a…(i just translated it says its called european bullhead) into my boot and I was crying as he was jumping around in there and my stupid dad was hysterically laughing and did nothing about it for..Well it felt like an eternity. So yes, I remember my first time fishing very well.

As a 30 year old man i cant remember the first fish my dad helped me catch as a kid but im sure we have a picture of it somewhere
But i can remember this day exactly, it was one of our relatives sons birthday a kid who was about my age 7 8 but never met or knew, and he had some kinda BBQ on some public part of lake geneva wisconsin with a a few docks to fish off of
My dad only brang spinning rod which only had a plastic worm on it and i didnt even know how to use either, my dad fished off the docks for an hour and went back to the table to sit with his friends
I asked for the pole he said fine just try not to break it or drop it in the water, he assumed i wasnt gonna know how to use it and for the most part i didnt so me my girl cousin was taking turns using it 2 casts a piece with the plastic worm and the birthday kid and a few of his friends was fishing about 20 30 feet away
I was a shy kid and didnt always know how to make new friends, well after my cousin went i had 2 casts coming 1st one i thought i felt a bite and i threw it back in for my 2nd cast 3 seconds later all u hear is the line pulling drag and this 3 4 pound largemouth bass jumped into the air like a tarpon
After about 20 30 seconds of fighting everyone on the dock came to see me lift the bass 7 8 feet out of the water on the dock, we really didnt know how to safely take em off the hook and release em and my whole life we never kept our fish unless they died
I cared alot about letting it go safely so i just started screaming dad we need help, the rest of the party came running down out of fear and eveeyone seen the fosh and was so hyped
Then my dad walked through the group and said wow very nice fish who caught it, they said your son did he was like whatttt no way he lifted me up and said u caught that monster by yourself
So i said take the hook put or hes gonna die he didnt do it, he said u caught it you release it grab the inside of the mouth grip with your thumb hard to lock the jaw (he didnt swallow the lure thank god so i didnt have to cut the line) took the hook out my dad told me walk him to the shallow part hold his mouth and push him back and forth slow to push the water through his gills
Did that for 10 15 seconds and dad said when you feel hes got his strength back just let him go and hell flip his tail and swim away
