Its common sense that if you drive through water that deep that fast it will cause damage-what if someone had been standing on one of those drives at the time he went through? There was a route open through the village at all times so he could have got where he needed to go without going through floods at all.
he had no way of knowing it would have caused that damage and knowing the type of managers the company he works for employ he probably had some nasty little man with a height complex shouting all kinds of threats down the phone and into his ear. jobs arent easy to come by these days so if his manager has told him to get the job done "or else" then i would have done the same thing. sorry to hear about your friends house though, i understand how horrible and disruptive that can be.
