I'm an old man now but 20 years ago after my divorce I had a girl on my bike and was going for a ride before work. Realized I had a half hour to get to work. I open my bike up was doing 112 mph for about 20-30 miles and when I got to my work and she got off, she had tears, dried tear marks and her glasses were splattered with tears. The right side of the lane is legally recommended. The time it takes to cross. From the left. To cross a stopping bumper is just. So ride in the right side of the lane always Hey hey grass is cheaper and a lot softer They old Harley riders like my aunt would lay it down on grass flop a leg over the tank and keep it on its side and as she said ride it on grass like a bob sled It won’t work. On pavement or. Gravel Thats when you bail and roll She hill climbed Harley’s in the. Fifty’s That called her dusty go go . Once got a ride when I was 16 , dusty red head , wheeled that extended Harley over a bridge at who knows . The bike was about nine feet long and when it stood up and barked you knew it. Just about pulled the strap off just hanging on . Whew , dusty go go would go girl go She became a nurse. Specializing in truckers bikers and folks that had lost an arm usually the left one Due to merge smacks . She knows the ways of the road .
@anneg8162 A trucker has to pull double duty. We have to stay 3 steps ahead of other travelers; always ways looking for an out. When a vehicle decides to pass(going too fast) after we've already signaled that we are about to merge into that lane, it's still a risk because it's hard to see them(it's a blur), gauge their distance, speed, and timing. A motorcycle is definitely hard to spot(even in broad daylight) when it moves that fast without giving a trucker the proper reaction time. We think faster than we can get these behemoths out of the way or able to stop them!
Working in the hospital. I can’t keep up with the amount of amputations I see because of motorcycle accidents. As a Harley rider, I stay cruising. Stay safe everyone.
As an old school motorcycle rider, my personal observations are that (most) sports bikes should be reserved for the track, at least if you want to play like this, or at least deserted roads -- where you KNOW the road. And cruiser bikes should be kept in the garage or a museum, and (maybe) taken out to those same deserted roads. If you really want to play on a bike, then go play in the dirt. Which is the best way to build your skills anyway, and if you want to ride the streets, then get a standard bike, like a Triumph, Royal Enfield 650, or if you like to tinker, an old Norton or Triumph, Moto Guzzi, Ducati or BMW. Something that doesn't have blistering speed, but can go quick and fast enough to get out of the way of problems, can stop fairly well, and is as maneuverable as a street bike can get. And neither sport bikes nor cruisers fit those criteria. I know you think that just bopping around at reasonable speeds on your cruiser is going to be ok, but when a bad situation shows up, and they will, you'll still be going fast enough to kill you (or worse, and apparently you know what worse means) and you won't have the stop or go performance and maneuverability to really avoid it. Actually, IMHO the PERFECT bike for the street where you will be near other traffic is a Super Motard or Enduro in the 250 to 500 cc range. But as long as I didn't have to go on the highway, I'd be happy with a 175. The next best is a standard street bike in the 350 to 650/750 range. And preferably one with scrambler pipes and universal tires. But that's just my opinion. If you can be bopping down the street at say, 45 and when granny turns left in front of you just as you're approaching the intersection, and then stops; and you can hit the brakes, throw it sideways (to kill speed and gain time), then straiten out and go around her while you give her an indication of your displeasure, and then just keep on down the road with what you are currently riding -- then go for it. I've been in that situation a few times, and am fairly skilled, but if I had been on a Harley I would probably have plowed into granny while laying it down, and the sport bike MIGHT have been able to either stop, or get around her, but most likely would have tried to and highsided right into her. Most of the sport bikes I've seen in such situations just try to see if their fantastic brakes will save them, and then plow right into the obstacle. But hey, you might be much better at riding than I am. 😮

I was a volunteer fireman and worked an accident where the biker somehow collided with a cattle trailer pulled over on the shoulder. His legs were like 50 yards down the highway and various small pieces of him went inside the trailer. Sold my bike that week.
Lots of people die in cars too. Did you sell you car and only walk.

There is a big percentage of people out there thats not scared to die.
Sometimes. Probably most of the time. But personally, I couldn't be happy just surviving til old age. No one knows how or when they'll go, and there's no guarantee that the world won't end tmw.
It's only a matter of time until the next dinosaur asteroid, and we know that we can't stop them and that we can't even fully detect them. Or maybe a freak accident takes me out while I'm driving, walking through a store, or sleeping.
I would never forgive myself if I made it to 100 years old, but I never pushed my limits.
I probably won't live to be very old, and it's a miracle that I'm even still alive, but I hated who I was when I was scared to live. At least now, after the risks I have taken, I'm fairly confident in knowing where my limits are, though it was a very dangerous process, that could have killed me a dozen times.
It's all love, but some of us need different things out of life. Being close to danger and death, is what makes me feel most alive. ❤🤙

@zedmelon I'm just thinking about the gearing with no specific education, honestly.. but that power to weight ratio makes it hard for me to think a superbike wasn't ready for 200, and he was in it for a long time he didn't let off even after catching up.
