War gaming do not own any rights or licenses for the real world ships in their games. Many of these are ships that were built between 80 and 100 years ago and the government's that operated them don't exist. I doubt war gaming would be able to claim any legal ownership over the ships
It's a good and perfectly valid approach. WG would probably not do anything (there are plenty of sites where one can download the ripped gamemodels directly and they haven't gone after those). I personally wouldn't want to do this without permission either, though.

Okay... just my own point of view here. Unless you specifically signed an NDA with Wargaming regarding these models, any 3d pattern you come up with is your own intellectual property. WG can't claim ownership of the ships design, they can only claim ownership over the representation of that design that they came up with. The 3d modeling you do for a visual display isn't anything close to what you need to code a printer... Sounds like WG trying to claim your work as theirs so that they can copyright it, even though they don't have a copyright... It's like doing a parody of a song. You took the original video display wireframe, and then adapted it to a 3d printer. That's the literal definition of sampling. Unless Wargaming is specifically releasing 3d printed plastic models and you have their specific code for the print, then they're trying to compare apples to oranges.
The 3d model they made is theirs, but there is nothing stopping you from printing and selling a model you made yourself. You can often find them on 3d sites as well for a hefty price if you don't want to make the model yourself. Check the license terms if you do that. The camo scheme they made is theirs so long as it wasn't an actual real one. The only other option I see is if someone commissioned a ship from you, because that is a different type of transaction than just having a shop to sell them in. Though I'd still not do that. Just stick to real ships and grab your own models then WG can spin till they turn purple.
Calling them greedy?? What word do you use to describe gov officials and big wigs at Nesle or Texecoco? Find a different word, cause that's definitely the wrong one in this context. Wanting to protect your property is not greed.

They do however make alterations to the designs..any German BBs AA layout for example or any of the post lion British BBs
