I agree with your point that we should make trustworthy friends in the material world, but I do not think we can get trustworthy friends in material life. As devotees, if we want to uplift our spiritual life, then we should have a devotee partner which helps us to grow in our spiritual life. Secondly, we can assume krishna as a trustworthy friends who always care for us and we can realise this miracle when we can connect with the krishna by chanting Hare Krishna Maha Mantra
