*CAUTIOUN:* Hello Everyone! SOME have reported that the command strips don't work as well for them. They HAVE Worked for me successfully over three moves including my most recent one 5 months ago. THERE ARE ALTERNATIVES which I have made videos on like T-Pins, and Wall-Less I just want to let you know here. *ALSO* The Audio in the begging was suppose to show that I need acoustic foam for the room due to the echo. I have seen a few comments, and wanted to clarify! Are you using acoustic foam? let me know! Want to know WHERE to install acoustic foam? Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/lJuiRYfKQ5c/v-deo.html

Thank you so much! I try to be mindful and help when it makes sense :)
Hey Andrew! Very helpful stuff. I used to record in a bedroom full of stuff, and never noticed an echo. Since getting my own studio room, there has been a LOT of reverb... Since it essentially has nothing in it except a TV and a computer. I bought 48 pieces of acoustic foam in blue and black and managed to get them stuck with duct tape. They still fall down once in a while, so I might need to order some of those Command strips you mentioned and see how it goes! One wall seems sufficient, but I think I'll continue on and do the background wall just for a little more zip in future facecam videos. Thanks for the video. Your production value is awesome! Keep it up.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I recommend the strips or T-pins. Do keep in mind some have said their foam falls down in my comments while others say it's been up like mine for months/years. I hope you hear a difference, but most importantly keep creating 😄
Great video for us just starting out. I'm getting ready to turn a small closet into a VO booth, so this will help immensely!

Amazing video Andrew! I especially love the intro because it really sounds like many new youtubers do sound.
I found just putting some more stuff into the room about as effective so far but especially in the setup you show (quite normal for gaming related channels) your solution is really spot on!
P.S. I didn't knew you did film school - I know 2 youtubers which did and it really shows! (I'm kinda yeallous, your vlogs look better then the best I could ever do on my own 😉)

Hey Ryan A Raymond Thank you! They're a really good thing to have! that or moving blankets, if you don't want to keep them on a wall! I have a video planned on WHERE to place the foam, since this one covers how to hang them up :)
Andrew Kan well I may have ruined Christmas and discovered my wife bought me 100 panels I think that should be enough to figure something out but a video discussing placement would be great
This was so informative! I’m planning on soundproofing my room soon I have roommates and do alotta music producing and out loud poetry and I don’t wanna annoy them with the noises so this helps out great!
Glad it was helpful! Keep in mind as I say in the video it won't sound proof a room, it will only help reduce echo and reverb in the room.
This is very helpful. Thanks man!

Solid video, Andrew! Thanks.
Hello Dale L. Roberts great to see ya! Thank you so much for watching and stopping by, do you plan on using acoustic foam in your space? :)
Been trying to put together an audio studio piece by piece on a budget. Today I got lucky. I was at a thrift store for a clothing sale and found a huge pile of acoustic tiles, 12" x 12" x 2." They were priced at 25 for a dollar. Not joking. I bought 500 which is enough to cover all the bare walls and ceiling in my spare room. I even had enough to make a foam shade for the window so I don't get sound bouncing off the glass. I just needed to figure out how to mount them and this video just told me. Thanks for posting! Now all I need is 100 sq feet of carpet and I will have no hard surfaces in my office except the desk
Nice work! :D
just got them yesterday in the mail. Purple and black and I'm putting them in today in my new bedroom
Hey Tarrabyte awesome! How are they working for you? :)

Super high quality video! I am considering to create a mini sound booth from acustic foam to put my mic there and I hope that will improve my audio. Subbed (I came over from Nick Nimmin's channel)!
Thank you for checking out the channel! I hope you hear improved quality! Any progress on the booth? :-)
Thanks for your recommendation because I put a poster on my wall with m3 double sided tape and it ripped of my paint and I just got some soundproofing panels and I didn’t want to use that m3 tape.
How do you get the command strips to stick to the foam..? My panel just falls off of the wall because it doesn’t stick to the foam. I’m using the red side like shown in the video.
I just held them down very hard. Anotehr option is T-Pins, but it should just be force/ clamps if you ahve them.
Thanks. Good clear video. Only question I have is if the command strips are strong enough to hold those triangular foam bass traps in the corners. Seen everyone talking about command strips so I just bought some after watching this.
Cheers
I'd recommend the ones for a heavier weight 😄
yay a new video!
Yup! Thank you so much for the support and your setup looks sick! If you're reading this Check out Tiffany! You won't regret it!

Thank you so much for the kind words! Do you utilize acoustic foam? :-)
Great video, thanks Andrew. Which 3M Command strips did you use? I just used the poster hanging. I put the strips on each corner of the 2" acoustic foam (4 strips per foam) and they fell down. Wondering if I need a stronger command strip.
Thanks for your help!!!
Hey @Lauren! For me the poster strips worked well and held strong, but it depends the weight of the foam. For the ones I used they were fine. Did you clean the surface? Maybe try the three pound strips! That SHOULD be able to do it :D
@@AndrewK Thanks Andrew. Yes I did clean the surface with alcohol, like you said to do. A few came down again, so I’m going to try the three pound strips as you suggested. Was your foam 2”?

Thanks for the video and the information about soundproofing. All the time we think about soundproofing walls. But can we use those panels in the ceiling? I have my studio in the basement and the noise from the upstairs is ridiculous.
Thanks in advance for your comments
Did you ever figure this out? Daughter in basement, and father up above. Both complain about noise. Anyway to fix this issue?

@@AndrewK Yes hahaha im asking how do you edit your audio make a tutorial :D
Very helpful video. I am curious, do you only need to place the foam behind your mic and possibly the corners of the room?
Hey dude man! I actually just made a video on where to Install Acoustic Foam. However that's a good place to start and also anywhere else the sound reflects when you speak!
I keep hearing "use how much you need." But how do I know how much I need?? I'm recording video in my office. Does it go behind the camera on that wall?
Great question! Here is a resource that helps you decide! www.auralex.com/tools/roomanalysis/
I ordered flat beveled acoustic foam panels to block my neighbors night chats since their chats happen on the same wall as my bed. I'm wondering how the panels are for dust and cleaning. Also, can they be covered with a light fabric?
Very good editing! Thanks,
+FAAELMAN happy to help! Do you use soundproof foam?
Yes, have mine on the wall too.
Where did you get yours? :-)
Good question, www.wish.com. Cheap, fairly fast delivery (maximum 2-3 weeks) from China
Thank you for sharing! :D
Thank you!!! Do you have any idea how it is possible to do it for ceiling absorber?
Are you looking for wood panels or foam? 😄
@@AndrewK I am thinking foam to make it possible, wood could be an overkill because of it’s weight :(
Thanks for lightning fast answer! I appreciate your time and kindness!
Of course! Sorry for the late response here always do my best to reply! :)
I use RockWool covered in second-hand bed sheets. Makes my recording space nice and "dead." My voice is very deep and I find RockWool to be more effective in attenuating reverb in my booth.
I also use high-pile shag carpet on the floor of my booth.
Hello Peter Hopkins that all sounds great! :)
Great video man, I am about to install mine and was looking for a guide. I noticed a lot of people install theirs, so the square is more of a diamond(I honestly dont know how to explain this better lol) does that make any difference, or is it just purely aesthetic?
It can depend on the space you’re trying to treat to be honest. If you get more coverage that way do it. Can be a bit of both if that makes sense.
I don't know what do i have to buy to stick them to the wall properly , what is the excat size to the stickers exact
Depends the foam. I link to what I use and what works for me :)
thanks so much
You're welcome AfricanGringo ! Happy to help I hope this helped reduce echo in your sound and upped your quality! :D
Hi Andrew,
Great video, I am using double face mounting tapes and the foam keep falling, tapes stick very well on the wall but not on the foam, any idea?
Did you heavily apply pressure? I know for the command strips you need constant pressure. How long did you try holding them?
Hi there thankyou for the video. In thinking of just getting a mattress and putting it in front of my door to block out sound. Got some noisy as housemates
That can work hahaha do what works. Sorry about them though 😕
Hey man, thanks for the video. However, I was wondering, did you only treat the wall behind your computers? I've often had it in mind that I should have a setup all around me... What areas are most necessary?
For this video I only treated one wall for sake of time, but this video discusses WHERE you should install acoustic foam: ua-cam.com/video/lJuiRYfKQ5c/v-deo.html
Thanks
Thank YOU for watching :D
I love the sentence at the end!
Hey Eddie Style Thank you! I hope you found the video useful! :D
@@AndrewK Yes!
Where did you install your foam?
@@AndrewK I have a spare room in my house so I want to make it a UA-cam studio and maybe play the guitar there! 🎸
That's awesome! Please let me know when you get it setup!
Hi Andrew, I have good dubbelsided tape, but the tape doesnt seem to stick to the foam, any tips? how does yours stick?
The command strips I applied the pressure the packaging asked for, and it's never let me down! It's pretty much double sided tape, but one side is covered and allows you to add pressure to the foam, to get it to stick! It has a convenient pull tab to make it easy to remove!
I come to this video because I used these exact strips on my wall in the correct way and it damaged the walls and fell off. Great!!!
I'm sorry to hear that. I've used them multiple times since this video, and have had no issues. I do mention in the video that they can fall off, and to use the right weight. 3:24 you can see the example.
Do you have any plans to treat your ceiling at all? I have found a lot of people tend to forget the ceiling, and that can reflect sound in low-ceilinged spaces. We don't soundproof because we record in a basement space that's so low that it's almost impossible to fix and keep our green screen wall intact. I need to upgrade our recording equipment, but our furnace is literally feet away from where we film, so that hum will be there anyway, LOL.
I do want to treat my ceiling, just don't have a way to currently get up there XD I did not know you filmed in your basement, but if it's on a lower level I get that. Corner pieces might help with the sound bouncing off though, also a green screen carpet can absorb sound and give more opportunities :-)
you can stick soundproofing blankets to walls (not the foam shown in the video) and over the blankets you stick your green screen.
he sounds so professional
I hope that's not a bad thing :X
Trying to add something to sound proof unfinished basement ceiling from upstairs and downstairs noise?
Any ideas?
These panels don't soundproof only treat echo. You could do this to help some sound but won't soundproof
underrated video
Im looking to install some acoustic foam to up the audio quality of my twitch stream. Should I bother with adding some to the ceiling or just behind my monitors? I dont have an audio interface and wont have any other way to balance or EQ the audio.
Audacity is free and I would recommend looking into that, however for streaming might not be possible. If using obs there are some virtual options. For the ceiling depends on the space and how you like the sound after installing foam.
Question. So I have a room right next to the bathroom and well as natural as it is, I do not want to hear people going to restroom. It's a rented property so I was looking into putting some of these acoustic panels. It's a small restroom but do I need to cover the whole wall between the room and the bathroom? Or a certain amount only. Your help will be greatly appreciated
So the panels sadly won’t stop all sound. You’re better off putting like a bookshelf with books and panels. Something to cause a barrier. Acoustic foam will help TREAT a room meaning less echo but not block sound!
Great video
I’m planing to buy the but my room has a window now there a house in construction in Baco of my home
Another thing the wall of my closet is the wall to the living room and TV gets to loud so how can I add them, should I add them inside the closet or around the closet outside ?
Hello Untouchable! They won't sound proof the TV they will only treat the noise in the room. Just something to consider when it comes to acoustic foam.
Perfect video
Hey ECPLO Thank you!
Hi. I have noisy neighbors and I am thinking of installing one. I want to ask if t would be sufficient to just cover the wall area of my bed or should I cover the entire wall?
It depends on what you’re trying to do :-) this isn’t the best solution for noise cancellation. It effects the sound in a room. This article goes more in depth: acousticalsolutions.com/soundproofing-an-apartment-non-invasive-fixes-for-quieter-renting/
I have a question about the placement of the panels, I am looking to buy these to help keep the noise from my room a bit lower from outside of my room, ive been told by family that they can hear me pretty loud even if I'm not being tbat loud, should I just place the foam sections along the wall where the door is and on the door(where the sound would be going through) , or should I put some all around the room? The wall alongside the door is connected to my sister's room, the door connects to a small hallway which leads to the entrance of the families rooms, thats why I think that whole wall may just be good enough, but if it would be better to place them around the other walls too then I will
hey there passive. As I mention in the video it's not the same thing as sound proofing. It will help a bit, but not enough to eliminate it. You might be better off with sound blankets, or moving bookshelves on the wall your family is. Really it's to help with echo, sound panels, or moving blankets/ sound blankets can help too. Sorry just want to make sure you know.
Hi andrew, do i need to cover the whole room? Or just behind the tv?
hello AB 10 this won't sound proof a room, it just stops sound from reflecting around the room. I made this video: ua-cam.com/video/lJuiRYfKQ5c/v-deo.html on where to install acoustic foam for more help.
So my room has a window that opens to the back room it wasn't originally there. will panels like these keep sound from coming into my room if I just put them on the window or do I have to put them all over room
ua-cam.com/video/V1_hYrS7CJM/v-deo.html this video shows they won't soundproof. They'll help but closing the window would be best. Same with putting the foam anywhere it could reflect back into the microphone.
Should I use the poster like paper that I bought at Home Depot with acoustic foam, because wouldn’t it slip of with just the foam and command strips
Or did I waste my money and should have just got the command strips alone
I would say just make sure they don't add extra weight so if you do add them they should be fine :)
For future references, thank you.
I tried with xfasten double sided foam tape and it did not work. Not sure what is Command strip. Not sure it will be better.
You can get heavier weighted commands strips. Use what works best for you :)
Do these have any negative effects in summer? I live in Australia so it can get hot (don’t know if he explains this yet, just typing)
I have a dry heat in LA and have had no problem
This was a great video thx for the help. I personally prefer sound proofing my room when I game
Hello LSD-Rick B-172 I understand that! I just wanted to make sure people understood the difference :)
@@AndrewK yeah but you Told us to comment what we prefer to use
I know I agree with you and am thankful for your comments :)
@@AndrewK yessir
The "after install" reading sounded quite a bit better than the "before." This was a great video for those wanting to improve recording quality in a room, but what if your end goal is blocking out the bass speakers and the loud trucks revving up for hours at a time outside? I live In a rental house, and I prefer to not commit any crimes to satisfy said goal lol. I'm just not sure what to buy and what would work best for this?
For that having curtains that specialize in dampening or getting moving/ sound blankets can help a bit, but may not look the best long term. I too rent, and most solutions are not as easy. If any comments have ideas please share!
Film school nice! What school did you attend? I’m going in for my first year in a couple weeks!
Academy of Art! Best of luck to you 😁
Great video
Thank you! Are you going to be using acoustic foam?
Is it okay if I put the panels on one wall? As my set up is positioned in a weird manner almost in the corner I don't know which wall to start from
That's fine ideally you would have it on both. You could also push something against the wall to help with the sound
@@AndrewK thanks!
I’m confused on what I need because I don’t think my room echos it just picks up a lot of noise bc I have a condenser mic. Will this reduce some of that or stop it
Well it will absorb sounds in the room, but it won't keep sounds from the outside out, and it won't eliminate all sounds. However, it could reduce some of the noise, depending what it is :)
So I got some of the foam but they seem kinda compressed so do you have any idea how to fix it?
Hard to know what you mean :x I'd take them out and let them expand! 😄
Yo so I’m going to be recording myself rapping on a corner desk so I’m putting the sound tiles in the corner of my room on each sides of the corner to catch my voice will that work to prevent echo btw I bought 12 so I’m going to have them cover as much of the sides as possible
Smart plan!
Hey! I followed your instructions regarding the command strips, but my acoustic panels have been falling off my walls time and time again, and I don't know why! I have tried putting them back up with new and stronger command strips, but they always fall off! Any idea of what might help or what the problem might be? Thanks
I haven't had this issue. I would reach out to command themselves. There are also tpins that are like 2 inches can get 100 for 7 bucks. Sorry it's not working well. Command has been pretty good with refunds from what I've been told.
@@AndrewK Okay thanks, I'll look into that!
We’re trying to keep our Son in the adjacent room from hearing our nighttime activities. What product do you recommend us use for that? His room is on the opposite side of a connecting wall. Thank you.
This is only going to help echo IN the room not with sound leakage. I'd recommend placing a heavy object like a bookshelf filled with books on that side. o.o
I hope to use the blue sound board, paint it and cover with tropical material, sort of like a unframed picture
Hello King Kano World Media that sounds awesome! :D
@@AndrewK I cannot take full credit. It has been done before. even the Styrofoam board works good, but the more costly blue boards work best and they should they cost a lot. Just try one, cover it with material of your choice, or paint a picture hanger on back and see what happens. Costly experiments but how bad can it e. I suggest what ever art size you like, 3x4 3x3 and find the material you want, staple gun it to the board with glue. I will use this maybe no glue, it is easier I admit
