The untold story of the Toyota Bandeirante. I started researching this truck and was amazed what I found... beyond that fact that the bezel was on upside-down and that it ISN'T a Land Crusier, I realized the Bandeirante has an important place in automotive history and wanted to tell the story. I hope you enjoy! Feel free to leave comments on what I missed... it really is hard to get solid info on these amazing trucks.

😢😢 you are breaking my heart strings. Who is going to take over and make these again?
😊 Long live the banshee 🎉
Goste demais, porém poderei inserir legendas!
I live in a small city in the northeast of Brazil. I cross several of these every single day. They are modified to transport more passengers and cargo. They are very important to the people who live in small farms and villages. No other car can resist the daily routine of several km on these dirt roads. They're the off-road Uber 😂. You'ld be surprised how well maintained they are.
Tu é de Brejo da Madre de Deus?
@@zOiNhUhnão amigo, Gravatá. Brejo tem demais tb.
As if my lust for landcruisers wasn’t enough. Now I want one of these as well!
Every time I see a Land Cruiser I want them... I Feel lucky I get to have them as projects... even if I do have to eventually sell them 🤷♂️
I am Brazilian and I approve this video! :p
I'm very impressed with the amount of research and accuracy put into this video! BTW that is the cleanest Bandeirante I've ever seen in my life!
I'm a Gringo living here in Bogota. I had the opportunity to buy a Bandeirante, but didn't realize what I was looking at, lol. I saw that Mercedes motor sitting in the engine bay and thought why the hell did someone swap the motor from a Toyota. Anyway a great story and I thank you. If I ever find another, I will buy it for sure. I'm restoring an FJ43 here in Colombia now. Love these trucks. Cheers!
Thanks for watching… bet that FJ43 is awesome
Was it a captive import there?
Great video about the Toyota Bandeirante. I didn't know about the story about this specific video. Thanks for taking the time to do the research and sharing it.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is amazingly well done. This story should make it into SLC’s Land Cruiser Museum… well done!
Oh man… I want to go there and do a video on the first Land Cruiser ever sold in the US… I can’t believe they have it. Pretty amazing story on that one too.
@@OutdoorAuto Given your channel, I think you would genuinely appreciate the museum. Drive your 75 down there and wow them! They might try to buy it off you ... haha
Great history lesson! I’m glad to see you’re back doing more videos. I didn’t even know this existed. I’d love to see a walkthrough of the Bandeirante and your Troopy.
I will definitely have more videos on them as I work on them... they look nice but they need a lot of work. It's been fun to get back to making videos. Finally have the space to do it and time.
I love the 40 series Land Cruiser and everything about them. So please keep up the great work.
My father is retired from the Brazilian Air Force. I remember when 2-door crew-cabs were widely used in the Brazilian military, and once in a while my father would show up at home driving one.
I saw these in Brazil and wanted to research more about them, I wondered why it seemed like there were such little information on them, then I realized it was mainly specifically manufactured for Brazil . Thanks for this awesome little documentary.
I knew next to nothing about them as well... and the more i dug the more I shocked nobody knows the story... such a great Automotive history story... I think that fact that so few people know Portuguese kind of hid the story for a while.
Toyota Bandeirante, uma lenda do offroad brasileiro.
Translation - "Toyota Bandeirante, a Brazilian offroad legend." - I couldn't agree with you more. Great trucks.
Hey, nice video! Really happy to see that more people are getting to know the Bandeirante! Cheers from a Brazilian mate that has also a Bandeirante truck!
I’m a huge fan of the Bandi… figured someone should tell their story outside of Brazil.
Such a cool story. We’ll done.
Thanks 🙏 glad you enjoyed it.
One thing i think you may be confused on. The 700 ton frame press likely did not weigh 700 tons. That would be the pressing force to bend the frames. Same as a 20 ton shop press does not weigh 20 tons. It would still be a heavy press, just not 700 tons heavy.
Ahh… good point. You are probably right.
Dude, congrats for your video and research.. these veicles are LEGENDS, here in Brazil. Yesterday, in my city Goiânia- Goiás, I saw a 1978 Bandeirante being sold for R$ 110.000,00. It was an amazing price for brazilian market reality. Belive me, the car will be sold.
Thanks, this is actually one of my favorite videos I ever made so far... it doesn't get the most views but I really enjoyed making it.
Totally interesting story! Good stuff! That truck is beautiful too
Love that truck… but it needs a lot of work… should be a fun project.
Great story - thank you for the information on a Bandie. I have owned 5 FJ40s and 1 FJ55 and have always been curious about the Bandie story. Sno Dawg
Thanks for watching.. glad you enjoyed it. Pretty fascinating history... I figured someone had to tell the story.
I have a bandeirante 88 bought of brazilian navy auction, its a real tractor.
ahhh cool... mine is an 88 as well.
Translation ( _I shared this video of yours in the Toyota Bandeirante groups that I participate in and people who have Toyota Bandeirante are called toyoteiros_ .) - I love this! Thanks for sharing... I want to come down to Brazil and hang out with all the Toyoteiros.
Very interesting and well researched video. We had Perkins diesel powered Land Cruisers in South Africa in the years of isolation when the government pushed a local content programme. These Perkins as well as Mercedes Benz diesel engines were produced by a factory set up in Atlantis near Cape Town.
Thats interesting, I never heard of the Perkins Powered ones... I will have to look into that. Were they considered good engines?
I knew about Perkins engines in the Spanish Nissan Patrol, and some Mazda engines were based on Perkins designs too
@@OutdoorAuto yes reliable and good low speed torque, but not good for highway speeds
Fantastic story. I bet there's a bigger rabbit hole to explore here. I bought a diesel Gladiator so I could close my eyes and pretend it was this. I know it's nothing close, but I'm a beggar after all.
I wish I could find an easy way to import them and fix them up… but none of that stuff is ever easy.
Awesome video man! I restore and import them to the USA. Let me know if you need parts or anything.
ua-cam.com/video/SSWMl8NurPE/v-deo.html
I need one my friend
Translation (I have a Toyota Bandeirante jeep and I can say it is a very robust vehicle and the term Bandeirante refers to the pioneers of Brazil.) - It's great to hear from actual owners, thanks for watching.
i love the shape of these but have never seen one in real life and unfortunately apparently they cant be imported and registered to Australia. We got the 40 series in single cab ute, troop carrier, and swb but never got the dual cab unfortunately. It reminds me of the current landcruiser dual cab 79 series which are also like a tractor, but an expensive one unfortunately
When I get stopped here in Virginia and asked what the heck is a bandierante, I refer them to this video ♥️😂. I need a QR code sticker for the window so I can just have people scan that when they ask 😂
They are so cool… such a great history
Great story. Thanks
It was an interesting history to just stumble across.
That was one of my favorite video from you. Did you document the resto?
Great video about a Brazilian legend. I have one with OM314s engine. Think about a realiable car? Is the Bandeirante. You can translate Bandeirante as a "pioneer that crosse all the country" so a Land Cruiser.
How cool is that!?!
This video was awesome!
Great info on the Toyota Bandeirante. Never heard of it till now. What are you using on the hood lining insulation?
Honestly I think it is just some cheap no name stuff off of Amazon... it seems to work just fine.
Toyota Bandeirante the king of amazon jungle
Super interesting !!
You should look at Gibraltar Holdings…. They still get from Toyota, BRAND NEW Landcrisers…..from Japan….for the UN and other NGO’s…..
Yeah... the un is running the 70 Series Land Cruisers.... you can still get those new in lots of countries... just not the US... In Australia you can still go to a dealership and get a 70 Series.
@@OutdoorAuto pretty amazing really…lol
I need this vehicle.
Very cool! I walked through the SLC land cruiser museum last year but Im not sure they had one?
They may not since it isn’t technically a Land Cruiser… that Museum is amazing… still can’t believe they were able to get the original First Land Cruiser ever sold in the US.
I need one
Nice!!!! 👏👏👏 Thanks!
But where they actually available as a 4 door “dual cab” from factory?
That’s the most interesting part for me
Yeah, absolutely… there is a shot of the factory in the video that show 100’s of them.
Are you sure the 700 ton press actually weighs 700 tons or was it producing 700 tons of force? Great video. Thanks.
Pretty sure 700 tons of pressure but it is in the picture... it was Massive...
My grandma had a single cab
Toyota Bandeirante is the FJ40 that lasdet longer! And showed the worls thal Land Cuiser is tTOUGH!
👍
🫡
Were the Bandeirantes/40 series Landcruisers in Australia also from Brazil or were they from Japan?
There was no Brazilian Bandeirante in Australia
How much would one cost? I want to import it to Africa it would work like home here
How is this an fj40 rather than fj45?
It’s a “40 Series” but the Bandis are their own deal…
Also… it wouldn’t be a “FJ” at all cause it’s diesel… so if it wasn’t a Bandierante it would be a BJ but it’s not that either cause it had the Mercedes engine…
I have a 1993 OM 364 5-speed, a real battle tank.
I bet that thing is awesome
👍
👍
That was awesome! But couldnt say how u got it?
Even if it was ebay or luck, etc. Its obviously been restored.
I love @fabRats FJ cruiser pickup/crawler; he found while working his main job before, "retiring" & doing youtube. it was deteriorating on someone's property.
Did the build on his channel & even returned to the person's property to give them a ride in it.
So point is, the back story are just as cool/interesting & should always be part of the story. Just sayin.
(PS if u read all this, you've got a new sub & got a like on a few videos)
I actually just got it from a guy that imports trucks… he uses some of them at SEMA to advertise different brands of aftermarket gear… and then he sells some of them off… the truck has been fixed up for looks… like paint and such but mechanically it needs quiet a bit of work… im slowly going through it… I just have too many projects 😳
Would you be willing to share the contact information? If deep dived the internet and there appears to only be 1 for sale in the US at the moment. Didn’t know if you’d be willing to share the connection or how did you get in contact with you “guy”?
@OutdoorAuto sorry just saw this comment. Thats cool. So kinda got lucky & stumbled upon a person. It's very cool. Best of luck in the future
@@pimpwithnostick52 I import them from Brazil. Restored or not. Let me know if you are still interested. I have fully restored arriving to US in 2 months.
