I saw Nirvana open for Tad in 1989 or 90 at Maxwells in Hoboken New Jersey. Kurt smashed his guitar at the end of the set so me and my friend helped him pick up the pieces scattered across the floor. We talked as we helped him. He was very friendly and cool. Maybe 50 people were there

The magic of the turbo distortion lies in the frequency boost they added to the classic Ds1 (which is mode 1 on the pedal) and which is quite similar to the HM2 actually. That's what makes it brutal as Ola said. It's a criminally underrated pedal.

Yeah I forgot about the period the sans amp was employed, I could have sworn it was during the 'In Utero' record, but I stand corrected, I've actually got both of them, I haven't looked at the Earnie Bailey 'Kurt's Equipment' in years, but he has all of that information listed on there and it's quiet fascinating for people into Nirvana / Kurt's rig, those MESA racks he used back them instead of Marshall heads (Kurt hated Marshall because of hair metal bands in the 80's) are crazy rare now and very pricey!

    The DS2 is underrated
Turbo 1 is that classic Ds1 sound and the Turbo 2 is just completely brutal

sorry for one year of delay, but i bought it. very cool, mode 1 more scooped tone at max into effect loop of my valvestate and g12t.75- very 90's doom sound, yes a little fuzzy but i like it. one of my best discovering in the latest years.

I've only just learnt how good these pedals are, that chug was heavy and full sounding. I've just ordered one!

I'm a diehard metal fan, but I've always loved Nirvana and still do. I was 15 when Kurt passed, but I did get to see them twice here in Houston TX. Once in 91 when I was 13, and then in 1993 when I was 15. Anyway, besides the point. Lol. I started playing guitar around the age of 14 and the Boss DS-2 was one of the pedals that I had, along side the Boss DS-1. Both pretty damn decent IMO.

This is quite literally like 1/2 Alice In Chains and 1/2 Death type tone and I love it. This could death sludge so hard. I feel like Eyehategod and Meshuggah could get equal mileage from this pedal

I had a DS-1 I got really cheap and sold it after a week a long time ago haha.
Picked up a DS-2 last year for like $40 and it is so good.
Right now it's not even on a board anymore, I just keep it on my desk and pray to it.

I once went to a guitar store (I played guitar at that time for maybe 2-3 years, so at that point in time I was *HEAVILY* and I mean *HEAVILY* into Metallica). I wanted to check out an amp that I wanted but they didn't have it. A guy told me though, that they had this Kustom Defender head and cab combo for around the same price. So I tried it. It a single channel head with just volume control so I couldn't crank it and asked for a distortion pedal. The store clerk geve me a ds-2 and holy shit, I was so in love with that pedal. I spent like 2 hrs just playing metallica (badly) through this pedal. Hearing it now, fuck yeah, I still love it. I'd even get it, but I don't own, and I never even have, bought an amp (still to this day lmao) and nowadays just play through plugins.
Edit: that was like 8 years ago.
