TL;DW: Fastest times were 2 mins 29s in Timewalking gear and 3 mins 14s in Shadowlands gear (SL gear was limited to only shadowlands consumables whereas timewalking gear used the better scaling consumables). Lowest % I got Raest to in the first burn was 35% with timewalking gear and 38% with shadowlands gear (shadowlands gear was using rune of power so timewalking gear could probably get him to about 27%). Also I originally cleared this challenge in full shadowlands gear and only got the timewalking gear for this video, you can 100% get the book mount without having to go farm for any timewalking gear, the only one that requires potion of unbridled fury is the tank challenge. And it only took me about 2 and a half hours to get the timewalking gear and about 125k in gold for the gems/enchants/consumables. (costs significantly less to just get consumables which is what you would ideally do in shadowlands gear). I did 2.8k dps in the TW fastest run and 2.2k in the SL fastest run.
If you skipped around the video you can watch at 7:16 for my 35% hp raest burn in timewalking gear and my 38% burn in shadowlands gear. (though its only the ending of the the raest phase not the whole phase, had to keep the video duration down ya know)
Okay age and your first frost mage vids helped a ton. After hrs and hrs of tries, approximately 40k gold spent on consumables, I beat it with SL gear. Oddly, using the slime/ ooze trinket helped in completing it.
@@wolfshanze5980 Pretty sure he is talking about the infinitely divisible ooze since in both this video and my guide I say not to use it as it scaled poorly in my experience.
This video helped me so much getting my kill. I don't know how to play mage at all. First time trying out the class and killed it on my 4th try. Literally leveled up a mage just for this encounter :D I got the timewalking gear and leveled up my mage to lv56. Don't even have alter time :D Thanks a lot!
Hey I didn't realize that the first time you can hit Raest was a burst window. I was saving all CDs for the last phase. I completed this in Legion too! I didn't have anything gimmicky and once I used started using that burst window I managed to take him down in 3 pulls. Thanks!
Theres been a lot of controversy over timewalking gear in the mage tower, personally I had a lot of fun getting this gear and it only took me about 2 and a half hours to get it all. The main hassle was the gold all the old enchants and things cost because of people jacking up the price. It was still really fun and if you arent sure what to do with your wow time id say try grinding a timewalking set.
Did you have to level engineering? I couldn’t find any of the level 90 gems on my auction house and really didn’t want to level cata engineering to make my own
I did this with the Trinket from SoO i believe the ‘Black Blood of Y’Shaarj’ and that trinket when it procs is so damn good lol it’s 140 int i think when it ramps up
Ah yes the garosh trinket. I hoped I would get that in my 2 runs of SoO but I didn't. Did seem pretty crazy. I ended up using the Ishkar gaze of the unblinking eye or w/e trinket and that seemed far better for add damage than single target damage since it did 5.4% overall dmg but only 0.7% of my damage to Raest.
Great video, but one question which may be silly but I only leveled mage for this challnge, what are the snowflake icons showing procs for? As i see you are using Ice Lance with them but its not the fingers of frost for the ice lances. Is there an addon for it? Thanks
Its after flurry, the winters chill debuff. Basically it is 2 empowered ice lances on the target. So you always want to cast 2 ice lances after flurry. Can find the weak aura in the description.
Timewalking sets are a bit cringe, just 1 trinket was game changing for my guardian druid challenge. BUT: with the extensions to TW people need to stop resisting and get out there and farm everything they can. This assumes you are playing the fights clean and dying on end phases to rot, enrage etc. Crisp pulls come first, once you have the muscle memory then your TW gets you over the finish line.
It shouldn't be a thing at ALL that you need to farm gear to cheese it, when it was advertised as doable from level 45. It is a TIMEWALKING event = It is ment for everybody also casuals. If they wanted this to be for the top 3% of the playerbase, they should have advertised it as such, and not as something Nostalgic and fun that everybody from level 45 can do.
Any tips for a new frost mage trying this? I feel like I tend to waste my procs for the hands before they come up. Also tried taking frozen touch over Chain Reaction because I keep losing chain stacks :/
You won't get close to a 100% uptime on it. Just use the talents suggested in any guide for this fight, use an @cursor macro for blizzard if you can keep track of your mouse then use blizzard and frozen orb on cooldown when there are adds out and make sure to be putting them where they will hit the caster, so kite the mobs through him.
i don't know what im doing wrong, i have almost same gear as you same stats(even same trinkets), i even got 489 intellect. No matter what i do i cannot burst as hard as you do

Does this mean TW gear isnt that much better than SL gear for a non dps check challenge? What I noticed was that TW had more primary stat but less stamina and secondaries most of the time and no verse itemization because pre wod gear generally has no verse. I guess you could net 3 int on each gem if you were willing to spend 20,000 gold per gem (340,000 gold total) so about 51 more int which is a much bigger gain. im curious how many pulls it would take an average player in both sets. either ways if they just locked gear or gave us gear template or disabled expensive legacy gear/enchants it wouldnt have left such a bad taste in some peoples mouths.
How the actual fuck are you hitting 2k with your ice lance? Our int is pretty much the exact same I literally can't think of a single reason why you'd be hitting 500 harder than me

I used the mechanical Dragonling, it was doing 5-6% of my damage, it seemed very OP.

Because that is when Raest is casting shadowbolt on me and I am trying to maximize my damage so I don't want to cast shield during that phase.
How do you get him to 35% ? Best try i had was 67% with every cd used, is it because of the gear? I only did it with a 57 mage with sl leveling gear
I was minmaxing it so yeah it was gear, consumables, and probably greeding a bit more for damage than you do.
478 INT, sheesh, normal gear buffed its 360, with old consumes, i got up to 420 INT without old gear.
Yeah the gems do make a difference, I think I could go back and optimize it a bit better and probably get to at least 500.
Frost mage was by far my favorite one. It is so easy and fun, literally no challenge to it lol.
