Realy liked your breakdown of the meaning behind the lyrics. Apparently Parker likes to keep them a little vague so they can apply to more people/different situations. At first I assumed it was a break up song like alot of pop punk artist write about, but apprently it's about his father who passed away. Great band and great song

His father did pass away, he also did have a big breakup between these last 2 albums.
At one point in the song he says "I won't try you even tho I can" which leads me to believe the person is still there, and he's electing to ignore them.
This song sure is packed with meaning

@@SeanBonJoviii i agree, right after that he says "slide on by without a second glance" im not sure i understand the connection if the person isnt supposed to be here? always fun to think.

Your interpretation of the lyrics was really cool to hear. The song is about the singer's late father, you were right.

@@fahim9782 When they posted the song, he made a post thanking everyone for their kind words and said his father would've loved to read them. At the end of the day, the song seems to be about struggling to cope with the loss of someone, whatever that means to him, and whatever that may mean to the listener.

He did an interview with Mark Hoppus somewhat recently about his father passing.

When I first heard the song I immediately thought it was about a sad breakup, but as you mentioned at the end, it could also be about grief over the loss of a loved one.
I’ve followed this band closely for a few years now, and the lead singer has been vaguely open on instagram about how he last his father sometime within the last 2 years I think, and how making music with this band has been really hard for him. While he hasn’t confirmed that, I think your analysis is right and I believe it was essentially a love letter to his father. It’s a shame too to see how fans have reacted - as all fanbases are, they can be a bit toxic and they haven’t lined TSSF’s shift in style in terms of music, and they’ve been relentlessly asking for more music for years. I feel for him as he was trying to navigate making music after the loss of his father, and also trying to please his fan base

I despise when so-called fans rip on the artist when it's not a cookie cutter of their previous work. If an album is good it's good even if it isn't "hard" or "fast" or "brutal" like so many fans of this genre complain about. ADTR for example.
