Regarding wives grooming for the husband, with Sister Wives Meri tried to groom a teenager to marry Kody. But that fell through, and he married Janelle (she was 23), who he had been pursuing behind Meri's back. Meri and Janelle were enemies ever since lol. But after finding that out, I always found it interesting that Meri actively tried to get him a teen, yet he only married adults. The bar is on the floor here, so I'm not giving him much credit. It just makes me view Meri differently.
I'm pretty sure the teen is the one who broke up with Kody before the wedding. He was down for marrying her on her 18 birthday

@michelleconley7124 well, 19 is an adult. That said, Meri was 19 when she married Kody in 1990. She didn't remain that age. The child she and Kody groomed turned 18 after Kody married Janelle a few years later in 1993. So Meri wasn't 19, but in her 20s when she was trying to groom the teen for Kody.

I think you absolutely nailed it about Robyn Brown. She absolutely wants to be the favorite wife and it's clear that once Kody wasn't spending time with other wives and taking out his narcissistic rage on them, she started having to deal with behavior she was previously not subjected to.

She always used to talk about wanting to have sister-wives to be close to and grow old with.. I don't think having a husband was really important to her except as a means to an end.
Robyn wants/wanted the kinship and close familial bond of sister-wives for support and love because (I think) she knows the men in her religion are 🗑️and women are the real MVPs. She wanted that security of having a network of people who love and care for her and, in her mind, sister-wives were going to offer that.
Now that they've all left Kody, she's floundering because she sees her future disappearing too, and now she's stuck with the ramen noodle-haired wonder all by herself
Nah, Robyn actively dislikes other women (internalized misogyny.) She sees being a sister wife as a competition, and she wants to be the favorite. Robyn was all too happy to be the youngest and thinnest wife when she arrived. She was all too happy to get a longer honeymoon, and all sorts of preferential treatment.
If she was there for the female companionship, she would have treated the other women and their children with respect.
If this were the case why would she monopolize his time? Why would she push and alienate his children out of his life? Why would she appoint herself as an interpreter or go-between between Kody and his family? Why wouldn’t she let Christine watch her kids when Robyn was talking about needing a nanny? Why would she take the most money for her huge ass house she doesn’t need whine Janelle is up in a damn trailer, waiting to build out land? Why would she get mad that the other wives didn’t want to work for *her* crappy jewelry business? Why would Robyn not call Meri or let her come over for the Christmas, the wife she was supposedly the closest with?
Robyn needed financial security at the expense of others, not companionship from sister wives.

Hey Amanda. I left the AUB about 5 1/2 years ago, just for context. Rockland Ranch is a hodge podge of different affiliations. The founding family was independent for a long time, but it's currently a mix of different brands of independents, AUB, and other families that aren't even polygamous. None of Enoch's wives are related to him - they're AUB, and it's not as common of a practice there, though it does happen. While I have no love lost for polygamy and don't choose it for myself, Enoch is a decent dude, considering all the alternatives.
Also, I (weirdly and without my knowledge) appeared on an episode of Escaping Polygamy about a year before I myself left when my neighbor went on the show and said our house was pointing a gun at them. (We weren't. 😂) I have so much I could say about my mixed feelings about that and the culture in general, but you know.

Some people say one of the original purposes of The Relief Society was to help groom young women (aka children) into polygamous marriages. This is just speculation and rumors I've heard from ex-mormons.
At the very least it probably acted as a checks and balances to keep families in line with the ethos of the church. But “women’s charities” were pretty common for that day, and I would imagine that since the women weren’t really allowed to have a say in church….the relief society was a place where they could feel effective. So I don’t think it necessarily needed to operate as a grooming ring, I highly doubt it it. Former member, here.

Oh man. It had struck me before but Amanda googling reminded me that being part of a polygamous family means she might be related to any wacko polygamous she comes across. I'd be so stressed if I were her. Also I would probably over react and choose to marry a full blooded African (not African American because descendants of American slaves might have some DNA from her family due to rape) just to be SURE we aren't related.
