That’s true, I use to do it on a bicycle and I lived in Santa Monica and every order I’ve always gotten 10$+ orders and double orders were trouble but I’ve managed not to drop anything, mind you I didn’t have hot bags or those big bags you see bikers have. The customers were only 2-3 minutes away.
Here’s the secret between us dashers if you’re still doing it. I cherry picked and it worked for a little while until it didn’t. So I started doing overnights and started doing hourly 9:30pm to 3am accepting every order. I did this for a week. Made $765 that week and lost what I usually make cherry picking by $300-$400. So I turned on my cherry picking mode on and to my surprise I was in the top dasher category. I no longer had to cherry pick. I started getting amazing orders $5 for 1 mile, $10 for one mile, and so forth. I only denied grocery shopping orders only because I’m bad at grocery shopping and will get lost. Those would be like $20-$30 orders too. Let’s just say now it’s very profiting and I can work 5 and relax on the weekends. I like how this app works and how it’s structured. That’s the secret anyways. Gotta dash….
Man 22 deliveries! Your area is much more active than mine, I average 10-11 a day and I’ll be online from 9am-9pm.. I just got accepted to DoorDash tho, was only running Uber. So hopefully my possible orders increase! Congrats on the goals!!
I think it's best to have a full-time job and get some deliveries in during lunch time, dinner time, and weekends. That's what I've been doing and making a nice $200 a week
i gotta atleast try doing 7 hours doordash see how it goes. JUST TRY.JUST DO IT. IT CAN BE A BLESSING AND REPLACE A JOB. LETS GO MAN LETS GO. I PRAY I SEE GOOD RESULTS
I only count my “active” time. I leave the app on and I’ll sit in “my territory” and read and play games on my iPad while listening to Podcasts. Occasionally I’ll pause the app and go grocery shopping or go pick up lunch for my wife, who is retired as well. I couldn’t do that while “working” on a “real job”. I also couldn’t just choose which jobs I wanted and which ones to reject. I start when I want, stop when I want. It’s to the point now that I am collecting Social Security so I have to LIMIT how much I make because Good Ol’ Uncle Sam will start taking 1 dollar for every 2 dollars I make over the “limit.” And since I average $25-28 per “active” hour, have a “territory” two miles from my house, make almost exclusively residential deliveries and drive a hybrid, it definitely works for me. And it is FUN.
Nice break down straight to the point I used to do Uber In my new car but naw I don’t feel like putting strangers in my nice car or my presence anymore going to try 10 hours a week of food delivery mostly door dash and instacart
If you living in the south of states you can do some maintenance in Juaréz for cheap. But as a guy live in Canada rust belt my car is gonna break down after 3 years. I saw many cars being the shittest shitbox on the road delivering. The shitting Montreal road and those cars lack of back turning light and broken headlight makes the traffic nightmarish and discourage you to do it everyday. And 2 month freezing snow storm non stop.
"today, I made 22 deliveries for $269, I hit a pot hole causing $1277 damage to my car, putting me at a $1008 deficit, not including gas and other expenses, my rent went up, and my insurance canceled on me. But it only gets worse, and hey, your mileage may vary."
Anyone else notice when you crest the 100 to 150 range, the app starts to... "act up?" Maybe it's just my market, but another guy said the same when we talked about it. Forces you to end and then magically it starts to work well again.
The key is an old reliable car I suggest a Honda Lincoln town cars are old reliable because they were used as cabs low maintenance and you can put 500k miles on them

I do deliveries in my 2006 Mustang GT. Definitely not the best on gas, but it just sits in my driveway more than I drive it so it's pretty nice getting to drive it for deliveries. I definitely don't recommend somebody using a V8 for deliveries though definitely a 4 cylinder and maybe a v6, maybe.
