I'm lookin for somethin I can take to the office, something that looks like normal jeans or khakis, no ridges, is that a thing?
yo yam located out in SA do you have a bike repair shop or recommended one ?
You forgot to mention heat transfer as a danger when in a slide 👍
Says no pants available on your site
Went down at about 40mph last night. I was wearing denim jeans and they tore right through. I will be investing in some riding pants.
You still have legs?
@@BrandoMoto yes, just some pretty skinned knees. I got lucky
Bet that burns like fire.
@@acrazedtanker1550 burns pretty good, especially in the shower
@@noahlichdi7269 I took a lowside at about 10 and got a elbow and knee scrape, very slightly removed skin lol.
Saying of old bikers who know: "Dress for the slide, not for the ride.". Textile mesh "over pant" over jeans and take the textile off at the destination. Just look for long side leg zippers for easy on/off. I saw a squid last week take a left turn on the street at an intersection "throw out a knee" and "hang off" in shorts.
That can become painful pretty quick 😖
I have zero shame walking into a coffeeshop with leathers, Im not afraid to stand out, not at all concerned about what someone thought.
If you walked into a coffee shop wearing jandals shorts and a t shirt carrying a motorbike helmet, ppl would definately look. But in gear you'd look quite normal. Well here in NZ its normal. Quite cool seeing 10 or 15 bikes parked outside a cafe and the riders still wearing their gear. So over here you'd fit right in mate.
Yeah I don’t know why he thinks leathers look bad I think they look really good and you don’t look like an idiot when riding
And it actually looks cool
I'm surprised that you wouldn't even mention CE ratings like A,AA, AAA.
We live in an era where these pants are actually tested for durability, not just judged by their materials.
Also, you could have talked about material durability like polyester vs nylon in textile clothing.
He ain’t no Ryan fortnine that’s for sure
Real
CE rating is an european thing, and he is american... I think they have DOT rating but I don't know what does it include exactly
Tripple A is the only one to buy
@@johnnyhun1DOT ratings are basically useless anyway
I spent the money on a $300 pair of KLIM jeans with full ce armor in the hips, and knees and Cordura and Kevlar all over. Glad I did it. They actually fit great and aside from giving me the look of "ample birthing hips", it's hard to even tell they're not regular jeans.
Birthing hips or not atleast your legs will thank you
Lmao at this comment😂
Things to know about riding jeans: If you're over a 44 waist, Bull-It is the only manufacturer that's not going to tell you to get bent.
Thank you. I'm built like a beer keg with arms and legs, and it looked like "life ends at size 40".
UGH! Ive been having the damnest time finding pants. Damn big boy riders. Lol
If you’re a 44 waist, I shed a tear for your suspension 😂. I’m a 36 and apologize to my bikes often while throwing a leg over.
@@ghettosled1976 that's why I got a VTX 1800 lol
textile pants look pretty sick ngl. ima get those and the jeans
I've been riding for nine months. Since before I even bought my MT-09 I picked up A* leather pants. CE2 armor in the hips, knees, shin, and I added a tailbone protector. I have a few pairs of riding jeans but I wear the leather almost exclusively. When I wear the riding jeans I honestly feel way less protected, almost like I'm naked.
I totally hear you.
I felt the same way.
which pair did you go for from a*
@@bigpapilogic4469 Track V2 perforated. I added Nucleon KR-HR CE2 hip protectors and had a tailbone protector stitched in. I feel naked without them!
I would wear leather pants but i live in Houston Texas and it’s like 100+ degrees every day, i would melt
thats how i feel with my textile motocross pants. tons of air flow but i know if i went down it would probably tear. i think the skinny riding jeans look silly when you put boots on.
For me the choice is easy. Heavy leather chaps and leather paddock boots. Ride bike with the same gear I ride horses in.
I’ve thought about that.would be convenient to just have over your regular pants. The once I’ve seen doesn’t cover the ass though. If you slide you often slide on your ass and then it’s unprotected. Or am I looking at the wrong type of chaps?
Hey just a little note on the impact protection for riding jeans. The CE stamp is no official certificate issued by a central entity, it is issued by the company that makes the product. If you are looking for certifications that have significant meaning, don't rely on CE! cheers
YN has a good video on helmets discussing the different certifications for anybody interested
I dunno, first time I went down I gave myself a great case of road rash on my left forearm which I wore for long enough to be able to tell my kids about it, damn near ripped off my right pointer fingernail and ripped open my King Gee trousers over the right rear pocket. That brand is advertised as serious work wear and I took a kind of serious slide and suffered no abrasions to either my legs or buttocks (as Gump would say). Squidzoning in my office shirt led to the forearm scar that still hasn't entirely faded away almost two decades later.
Speed & Strength riding jeans for me. Sometimes I use the included armor, sometimes I use some D3O Ghost knee armor, which is more comfortable but doesn't really fit the armor pockets correctly. I also have a pair of Oxford Montreal 3.0 textile overpants that I mostly use in wet weather, and in the winter with the liner installed
I have never crashed on a bike, but I did get ejected from my 1980 Chevy LUV pick-up truck onto pavement at about 50mph. Suffered some pretty bad road rash but somehow not bad enough to require skin grafts.
Younger than that, I got my foot stuck under my 4-wheeler's rear tire on pavement. My sneaker popped off instantly and my foot dragged along the pavement under the tire for about 40 feet before I finally managed to reach the hand brake and stop the quad. That did require skin graft. I lost a lot of skin, meat and nerves on that one. 30+ years later, I still have a large cavity in my foot with zero nerves/ feelings.
Sacraficing protection for looking cool is for shallow twats. Period.
Damn. What a story. 😮
Just in time as I am in the market for gear being a new rider! Thanks for the videos
I love the 4SR gear, I got the club sport jeans you were showing and the hoodie jacket, both fit perfectly and seem to provide a decent amount of protection for what they are. Riding a bit harder I would still never go without "race leather"
I mostly use CoreTech Primary Riding Jeans. They are dual layer with a nice lining (and kevlar) that extends past the knee. They have places for armor inserts but are not super tight fitting. They pretty much look like regular jeans. I got mine on closeout for $90 a pair plus $20 for the inserts.
Excellent. I look forward to more in each category! Sick skating. I quit because I'm too old and it hurts too much. I actually think moto stuff like low key riding jeans, riding shirts etc would be great for the skateboard crowd to save a bit of pain. But I guess they are sort of too cool to wear anything safety-wise.
Finally bought some riding jeans this week. Klim fifty 2s. They are really nice and much better than my overalls at protection. 😆 Think it’s something overlooked a lot. I know I did until now but with an ER doc as father was convinced I needed them a lot more than skin grafts and medical bills.
Be safe! 🏍💨
I have them as well, well built and have good protection. A bit baggy, but that's how it is with dual layer.
came off at 60kph a month ago wearing full gear (except pants) my knee skin is error 404. Getting new bike today, and whilst i used to think that track leather pants were a little silly looking on the street, i no longer care and will definitely be getting myself a pair. Ride safe yall.
Thanks yammie. I was starting to get lazy and started riding in jeans and a t-shirt. After watching this video I got my Kevlar jeans and riding jacket on for my next ride.
Textile pants are great during winter as well i have used them at near freezing and they kept me nice as warm. I don't recommend wearing jeans during cold weather you will feel that coldness in your legs for the rest of the day and even a shower is not gonna help with that, i am speaking from experience here.
I am a street rider and I always ride in kevlar lined motorcycle jeans with ce lv2 knee protection and ce lv1 hip protection.
Probably the best intro in the history of intros!!!🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
I prefer my single layer (dyneema) jeans to my adv baggies. Both are comfortable. The knee pads in the jeans stay in proper position much better. Pads in the adv pants float all over.
My sporty bike days are done, so the the leather pants are hanging in the back of the closet. Still wear the perfed leather jacket sometimes when I wannabe really cool. Matches the aura of an adv dude from the dark ages
I've got a lot of options from barely slide resistant cheap but comfy riding jeans to full on ADV style textile overpants, but when I'm getting dressed for a ride I almost always end up grabbing my Speed and Strength Dogs of War.
Textile pants are great for commuting, because you can get overpants that fit over shorts or regular pants. When you get to your destination, you can take them off and stow them in a pannier.
You know the pants are good when they're WARPING the hangers they've been hung on!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's funny you made this video when you did, because I had my bike on PNO for a couple years. I just started getting it back on the road and first thing I did was all new gear and different gear from my first set, which oddly enough wasn't suitable for my riding style, other than maybe the helmet... Literally bought a bunch of cheap riding gear which in total cost me like $300; shoes, pants, jacket, gloves and helmet... Last month I dropped something like $1,500 on gear; boots, leather pants, 2 pairs of leather gloves, 2 different color helmets, chest/back protector and some under clothes pads for elbows, knees and my hips & tailbone. Glad I spent the money, just waiting for a jacket in my size now! Great video, thanks guys!
Yam and Crew - I've been a subscriber for a long time and enjoy your videos, but for the love of God, when you discuss safety gear, please educate your viewers as to the different levels of CE-rated gear. You gave it a passing mention in this video when you were holding the knee armor, but viewers need to be taught the differences between CE Level 1 and CE Level 2 armor. As for single layer v. dual layer riding jeans/pants, that's all well and good, too, but again, with your channel's reach, please teach viewers the important distinctions between A, AA, and AAA.
I'm sure people will throw shade at me, but I don't care because it must be said and it's true: the European vendors do a far better job at educating consumers with regard to safety ratings and I wish our vendors did, as well.
I've recently dumped one of my dirt bikes bombing down gravel roads and can in fact confirm regular jeans will be torn apart instantly- torn meniscus and acl, never again lol riding jeans at least with knee protection a must 🤙
Leather and even the more rare textile chaps should be covered. Put them on before the ride and take them off when you get where you're going. Especially nice if you're using your bike to commute.
Chaps might be ok for cruiser and bagger riders, but impractical for most all others.
Since about 2015 I've upgraded to four jackets and four pairs of pants. All for different applications.
The most important for me and most used is a hybrid leather/mesh textile Jacket/Pants combo from Revit.
Best protection for hot temp street riding and day trips. Then an Alpinstars vented mesh jacket/pants combo for very hot temp urban riding. Next was a two piece track combo. Finally, Revit riding jeans paired with a vented leather jacket.
Boots: two pairs of bootlets, a pair of warmer/ waterproof touring style boots and a pair of track boots.
Thanks for your knowledge 🙏🏼
Yes! Yam with the big spin!
Video = needed. Thank you!
Yea recently got myself most of the main riding gear other than boots since there were none in shop that were of my large shoe size but atleast I normally wear steel cap boots that go over my ankles.
Also love the high quality videos and keep up the good work.
I low sided two weeks go at about 55 mph. I bought pants the next day, and once my knee is healed i will wear them on every ride.
Well done! Thanks for the information.
I use riding jeans for my weekend bop around but have 2 pairs of synthetic for commuting back and forth to work. One pair is RevIt white strictly summer weight with matching jacket. My other pair is black and lined for when temps here in KS start dipping. I match those up with my lined leather jacket. At this point my feet and hands are the only thing that get cold. I also have a pair of leather chaps and they protected me great a couple years ago in a hi side that ended in a slide. I would wear them over my normal jeans when going to and from work. Yea my body took a beating from the impact but the leather did it's job as far as the slide went. Good review on the gear.
i have some textile pants that can zip onto my jacket in the back. they are the inexpensive HWK brand, but i feel that i am pretty protected with them on. i paid like $130 total for both the pants and jacket. i am impressed with them.
The problem with the cheap Chinese made gear is they aren't certified and have no been safety tested. They are made to be "mostly" protective. They don't do what the better stuff are designed to. Like on a better jacket when you slide the sleeves won't slide up your arm exposing your wrists. The cheap Chinese ones will slide up on you. It's a lot of little things you won't think about the better brands do as standard to pass protection tests.
Too bad the US don't have Komine in the market. The definition of JAPANESE dirt cheap gear. They have everything you can ask, not the best quality of course, but you still get consistency instead of gambling your safety.
Level zero is cargo shorts with the pockets filled with those mini glass bottles.
had no idea you skate, love this channel even more now haha
I prefer to ride in shorts to protect my pants. I don't want them to be torn appart in case of a fall and it's nice to feel the wind on your legs.
Awesomely informative
For the longest time, I never wore any special boots or pants. Finally, about 2 months ago I started wearing jeans. Definitely a good decision. I’d wear some boots/shoes too, but I can’t find any in my size
I got a couple of Rev'it jeans. they a pretty good. The CE impact armor is so narrow that it really doesnt look like you're wearing knee protection at all, they look like regular jeans.
Really like this content, especially as someone who doesn't have a motorcycle or gear yet.
Thats a fakie front big but nice to see ya skating g
Yeaaaap only way that’s back big is if it was nollie 👍🏼
I use riding jeans most of the time. During the Winter I bust out my textile overpants with the thermal lining. I am definitely more protected in Winter.
Seeing yammie skate, i was like wait whatttttttt yammie has other skills than talking about motorcycles alone
Thanks again yammie I was confused on whether I needed to buy pants being a new rider. Ima wear the textile ones
Impact vs slide are different ! Spot On!
Level 2 enforced jeans is where I want to be I like how you said "if you're not ready for the space suit" and that's definitely my case I am not ready for it....
I always have my jacket, gloves, and helmet. I need to start wearing my pants and boots. Besides, if your work requires you to get onto the ground fairly often, the extra durable jeans and knee pads are probably the best thing to have.
Revit jeans with knee and hip pads are comfortable and very well made. I think it's all I'll ever need.
just bought AAA Jeans (so tested for 120kmh) with level 2 hip and knee protectors. I think its save enough for a cruiser rider
Very informative!
I'm currently shopping for a pair thank Mr. Noob!
Nice bigspin!
Thank you for video! 🙂
I will always use riding pant with impact protection, riding pants literally saved my knee from being broken
I recently came down in very highly rated dual layer, dynema reinforced jeans at about 10mph into a roll as I watched the bike fly away. Everywhere the jeans touched the asphalt the fabric exploded. Luckily I was rolling so no real sliding occurred, but my jeans went from business casual to hipster central in that short time.
This made me chuckle haha but I hope you’re okay!
Intro reminded me of the 90's, just missing bowl cut.
I have two pairs of trousers Kevlar lined, one with knee and hip pads, one without. I chose them according to the distance and speed of the journey.
Bought a pair of Hood Motorcycle jeans. Dual layer, with CE level two armor in knees and hips. They’re bulkier than single layer, obviously, but I don’t mind.
For anyone that can’t find pants big enough, give Motorport a call in SoCal. I bet they will make you something. I’ve been run over in their gear and it held up good enough for me to keep wearing it without any repairs and NO SKIN GRAFTS!
What do they normally run. I have a 38in inseam
You send in your measurements and Motoport makes it for you. You can call them or check out their website.
That was great. Very informative. Do you have a similar vid on jacket options and choice rationale??
I got run off the road by a car, while riding a bicycle down a very steep hill with shitty road conditions. I went down at about 15mph, and the instant I hit pavement, my (very thick and sturdy, not fashion grade) jeans got split open at the knee, and my knee got split open at the same time. I was wearing boots, and the pockets got ripped off saving my literal ass ... but that's 15mph. On a bicycle. 10/10 recommend dressing for the slide, not the ride.
I was expecting little bit more like you test them but this is fine too👍
Just search youtube for "riding jeans test" and you'll find lots of them.
@@darkiee69 yes🤦♂️
Do a Myth Busters thing where you throw a dummy with gear on from a moving truck to see what works.
That fakie back bigspin WAS sick!! 😎
About I month ago I was going 75 and I got hit by a drunk driver going 90 from behind. I had some Kevlar leggings under my sweatpants that did wonders, I only had two small scrapes on my legs
Love when you guys talk about gear now, I didn’t take it too seriously and I’m just lucky that I happened to be wearing everything that night
What brand of Kevlar. Post a video please. God bless
Absolutely fantastic content. Thanks so much for posting.
Oh, and I almost had coffee coming out of my nose at 6:24. “…gimp club…”! 😂
I use riding jeans as I mainly just have a ride about on the ol SV but I do have some (way too big - given to me) textile trousers with an internal liner that is absolutely superb come winter.
I exclusively wear textile mesh personally. I'm a sissy about my legs being hot, and while they aren't as protective as possible I'm willing to take the risk. Still impact and abrasion resistant and they feel like riding without pants on. I'm also not a very fast rider so I don't worry too much about extended sliding.
I wear textile mesh with impact protection over shorts. Heat and humidity in the south are horrible. I had a lowside at about 60, walked away barely a scratch.
Your mesh pants are protective as possible. Yeah they are no reusable leather after a slide. But they will do their job for the 1 slide they are rated for. People act like leather is the only good option when textile now can be as good as leather on the street just it can't be used for more than 1 slide.
skate and ride? yall are the best
Leathers, road or track. Back in the 90s everyone wore 1-piece race suits down to the pub, now its jeans and tshirts. I could care less what the current fashion is, the only reason I still have fully functional legs is by wearing leathers with armour so that works for me
Thanks for that papa yam, your my real papa!
yammie is HARDCORE
as someone who wiped out going probably 15+ mbh on a skateboard, wear the gear. I got lucky to only have minor abrasions but I still got a decent amount of them. Wear it for when you need it so you don't wish you wore it.
I bought a level 3 pair of pants a few years ago (also rain resistant) when I was planning to ride from Ontario to Vancouver which is about a 4,400km ride. Covid happened and the ride didn't so I've been level 1 100% of the time. Sold my '88 Katana GSX1100F a few month ago with ease and now struggling to sell my level 3 riding pants. lol
I had a pair of textiles and a pair of leather. Both pants and jackets.
I could mix and match.
When it was cold and/or wet, i wore textile.
When it was hot, i wore leather.
I would also wear the textile jacket, with the leather pants.
I prefered the leather pants over the textile one.
I also had a pair of riding pants, with some kevlar padding on the hips and knees.
I think i wore those about a dozen times.
ATGATT was my game.
Thanks Yammie, I’m a noob so this helps.
knowing you skate goofy just makes me trust you that much more
My go to riding pants are a pair of dragginjeans holeshots. I had a bad accident 15 years ago wearing an ixon textile jacket and a pair of dragginjeans cargo pants, after sliding down the road I had some road rash on my elbow and carpet burn on my backside.
I live in the south where it is uncomfortably warm all summer I would ride around in shorts, with breathable textile pants and breathable riding jacket and be fine. One time I grabbed front brake too aggressively going 60-70 and went straight down. Walked away with barely a scratch on ankle (just wearing sneakers), and elbow was sore for a few hours. Had I been wearing jeans, I would have had major road rash, and been hating my decision for months or years. I have heard horror stories of roadrash, and would never even consider not wearing gear.
Most of California is NOT "temperate". All of so cal and the entire central valley for instance.
There ARE a lot of trendy boys wearing stylish leather outfits in San Francisco though.
At least he didn’t say Cali
Yammy with the big spin! Lol
I love your channel. You are funny and informative. However it would make way more sense if during your video about riding pants the shop yammie store suggestions would have actually included the pants you were talking about. I’m certain it would increase your sales
Super useful as always but I'm not so sure about the 1-2-3 ranking for the three kinds. There are AAA abrasion resistance rated jeans now which exceeds textile and is in the same league with leather.
You rarely see leather gear here in sunny Queensland. Everyone wears a helmet (it's the law here) but that's generally it. You do see some full textile riders... occasionally.
I only have a pair of A-star leather pants. They are a little warmer but it's not too bad. I have actually rider In my full race suit on the streets a few times as well. Not too bad unless you have to stop for more than a few seconds
Love my Alpinestars textile pants. Look great and breathe exceptionally well. Zips into my Alpinestars jacket. It’s a nice piece of mind that if I should go down, my skin will stay on my body🤷♂️
I think textiles can definitely look good. I think the way your gear looks is dependent on you and the ride. I think a lot of bikes and people can pull off the textile look. The retro classic come to mind. Personally, I think I'd look kind of funny in textile or leather pants on my cruiser. It'd be like a person in a full leather one piece with an airbag riding a sportster.
@@Ichibuns I ride a ninja daily, about to pick up a scout. The set looks really good. I did have some sedici gear, but it just didn’t hold up and I got need up going with Alpine for everything except my Shoei helmet. I would definitely look out of place on an adventure bike🤷♂️
You should do a comparison test of pants and jackets. Fill sand bags to equal the average weight of a man and throw from the back of a pickup at a given speed. This will give real world results.
Fun story, the only accident on a bike *I* had, shattered my upper shin, right where the armor would have ended in a pair of riding pants with knee guards, and no one would have been wearing a full suit for the ride I was on, so basically, FML, right?
Had a pair custom made by Motoport in California. Expensive but worth every single penny.
Gotta need to see that treflip now after that fakie bigspin
Great video. I'd have liked chaps added as well. Not a big fan of the style but it's an option to consider.
For example I ride a bagger and I commute on it rain or shine. It's only a 20-25 minute commute and I don't have a good place to change in and out of riding pants so chaps seem like a good option to throw over my work pants.
I also moto camp and sometimes want to pull off and hike a trail. Chaps can be put on and off over light weight pants. The ones I got have a pocket for knee protection minimal slide or impact protection on the hips. Obviously no ass protection. They still seem like a viable option and better than just wearing regular pants for short or long rides.
I just bought a AAA set of jeans, that are mono layer. John Doe. European brand. Look them up. They’re the pinnacle. And pricey too.
You tell em Yammie.
