Absolutely right. Whatever you are listening through it has to have a "flat" response. No EQ'n or software enhancement that you get from consumer products. I use both, it just depends on the project.
Beats headphones are HEAVY on the bass by design for listening to hip-hop and other music. Not a good choice for VO or mixing purposes. In general, I think headphones will highlight more detail and unwanted noise (mouth noise, etc).
