To your eye is there baked in sharpening on the Z cam footage? I've been shooting with an ursa mini pro g1 and it just died, looking to replace it and I like the price point and form factor of the z cam, but a filmic celluloid look is very important to me and baked in sharpening absolutely kills the look for me. Can be hard to spot with youtube compression though!
From memory z cam def does have inbaked sharpening. That’s one of their downfalls I guess, probably due to the fact they use a Sony sensor… not sure about recent ones like this year cameras but you can check out CineD they do the dynamic range lab tests that’ll show it. I really like black magic they def tweak the sensors to fix that and the Braw… canon and Nikon are good new additions for raw… fx6 and fx9 seem to look more natural then the fx3…
Yeah I was very hyped about the Zcam F6 but Zraw isn’t there yet. I went with the Komodo and sold all my Sony equipment, now I am thinking of using the BMPCC 6k as a Bcam for my Komodo. Love to get your thoughts.
Def great decision going with the Komodo over the Zcam... it’s a great attempt but not quite there yet... the BMPCC 6K is an amazing camera for the money, and I think in most conditions would match up to the Komodo quite well... especially with its EF mount. But, I do recommend the C70, or even the A7Siii for a B cam. I know you got out of Sony, but a B cam with solid autofocus, ibis, and so forth would be a great match for the Komodo that falls short in those areas. However, if you just want to have a B cam that can match the Komodo, I think BMPCC is probably one of the best choices.
The thing is that with an impact of DR doesn't mean that there is a stop less, it could be that the camera originally would have been 18 stops and more just as any of their other Red cameras but because of the Global shutter that's why we have 16 stops. besides all of that, it doesn't matter what dr it has Hollywood still shooting on film with no dr and we still enjoy the films. it's knowing the craft.
Haha. Mate, none of RED is 18 or 16 stops. Their values are crap. They have less DR than Arri and Arri have lower claims. Not an Arri fanboy. No camera in the world has 18 stops of DR. Komodo is 13 stops more or less. Red is in wonderland with their claims.
Unique channel. I absolutely love this long talks.
Please, keep it up!
great channel. keep it up!
Would love to see a 2023 video of this bro! The Lumix S5 Mk 2 would be an interesting comparison.
that's a great camera... and a good idea!
The OLPF built into the Komodo is based on the skin tone and highlight roll off OLPF

I agree with you
Should I get the c70 or the c300iii?! is the raw really that worth it ? or is there another autofocus cam out there that I should consider

Actually all film stock has dynamic range. Celluloid just like sensors spec and differ in that regard.
