James brings so much to characters. Jim can make me tear up, but Marsters makes me ugly cry with his performance. Changes, Cold Days, Battleground all had moments with Marsters performance that had me weeping. "I used the knife. I saved a child. I won a war. God forgive me." Instant blubbering idiot. Even knowing it's coming now, those moments aren't just gut punches. In those moments I'm that character, making those choices, facing those consequences. I'm right there in living color. Jim Butcher and James Marsters are greatest duo of story telling I've ever come across.
James Marsters is such a wonderful performer. I listen to a LOT of audiobooks and what he brings to The Dresden Files makes me treasure those books more than any others. They're wonderful stories on their own, don't get me wrong, and I own the print copies because I love them that much. James adds something very special to those stories. Even when I read the books, I can't help but hear Harry's voice in my head as I turn the pages.
I never cry due to books. But when I listened to James’s narration of that one soulgaze in White Night, I couldn’t stop sobbing. He’s way too skilled at this.
I was driving home on a 3 hour road trip when I read it and started sobbing 😭 I had to sit in the parking lot at home for 20 mins to get it out. Props to James for being able to do that!
Shit happened to me with Battleground. I was delivering packages in Park City. When that part came up. And I had to pull over and bawl my eyes out for 15 minutes.
I know exactly what you mean. Once I got through chapter 21 and 22 I had to walk away for a little while to get ahold of myself. Such a great book and narrator.
Completely late to this, but I'm doing the Audible of Proven Guilty right now. Just got past the point where Molly was on trial and then Michael and the rest of the Wizards came in....I was bawling.
I definitely heard and felt both Harry's and James' emotions in both changes and battlegrounds. Thanks to James I have to listen to the audiobooks instead of just reading them.
I have an unfortunate habit of listening to the books on public transport, but I don't really cry at the sad parts... I annoyingly cry at the joyful, triumphant, or just happy parts. So anytime a familiar character unexpectantly shows up to save the day, or Harry is proud of his friends, or pretty much any time Michael reassures Harry about something (which happens more than you'd think), then this weird, big, 6'2", long haired, bearded, brown skinned, bikie looking dude starts streaming tears in the middle of a crowded bus...
I too stopped and cried at that point.....I was so angry with Butcher, but I'm okay that is what a great authour does!!!!! and marster's owns this universe!!!!!!!
When a certain someone asks Harry "Do you want to be...", I did have to pull off to the side of the road... I always make sure I'm not driving when I read that one now.
The line "I used the knife. I saved a child. I won a war. God forgive me." Gets me everytime because you can hear the pain so clearly in his voice
Thank God for Jim Butcher and James Marsters.

That man has had some of the most emotionally impactful readings ive ever experienced. Truly a legend and thank you for sharing this.

Must be that part in Changes.

I have done this before! James Marsters is an amazing person and narrates these books better than I have heard in book form.
Shit happened to me with Battleground. I was delivering packages in Park City. When that part came up. And I had to pull over and bawl my eyes out for 15 minutes.
It should forever be known as "Chapter 21" Just damn.
I was so angry the rest of the day when it happened to me. I called my wife and told her what happened and was almost crying from the anger
I know exactly what you mean. Once I got through chapter 21 and 22 I had to walk away for a little while to get ahold of myself. Such a great book and narrator.
It's a deeply moving spreadsheet!
James you are and forever will be the voice of Harry Dresden and my favorite from my teenage years on Buffy

If they do make DF anime, he needs to play Harry in the dub.
Only time when the dubs will be better than the subs
I can only see it being done right in an anime adaptation, is just the best medium for all the crazy things, and nailing the character's look.
If they make a Dresden Files anime the OG audio will be English, like the Castlevania series.
I love his voice
I'm hunted by his voice... And the rest! But his voice... I think it's the most powerful and hot feature he has. Hunted.

Just started listening. Awesome read!!
.
I bawled my own yes out with this same book, yessir! Headphones on, big honkin' sobs. I lost it.
I was in the school lunch room when I heard a “certain scene” in Battle Ground.
Damn
@@ukiluser Yeah, It took a whole lot of effort to keep a straight face.
he's so amazing
The saddest moment he has read… until he gets to Battle Ground…
I too stopped and cried at that point.....I was so angry with Butcher, but I'm okay that is what a great authour does!!!!! and marster's owns this universe!!!!!!!
I was driving when I heard it. I didn't QUITE have to pull off the road, but it was close.
When a certain someone asks Harry "Do you want to be...", I did have to pull off to the side of the road... I always make sure I'm not driving when I read that one now.
He did the damn thing! I love the Dresden Files!
Is she talking about what happened in "Changes"(book 12)?
No, talking about, "I used the knife. I saved the child. I won a war. God help me."
I wonder what part she was at, there's no shortage of moments like this in the series.
That part in changes.
Which specific moment are we talking about? There are a few I can think of...
Excellent narration by... JAMES MONSTERS. (kidding)
1.27 before I could make out a single word
so your hearing's bad? ok.
