Love when you visit your parents. They are so sweet and love how your dad explains everything to you, your very lucky to have a dad who knows so much and teaches you every step of the way. Your drive from NYC to Cape Cod brought back memories of the time my sister and I flew to Boston from So. Cal for my sister’s work and drove to NYC from Boston. Such a nice and beautiful drive. Definitely nicer freeways/highways than So. Cal.
I get the same reaction eating lobster as Erin did with the quahogs. I used to be able to eat it fine then it started to make me sick around when I was 22. I was in denial that it was the lobster and kept trying to eat it. I thought it was the butter but I tried it in a pasta dish, in a sandwich salad style with light mayo and plain. Each time my reaction got worse and sooner after I ate it. It didn't matter how it was prepared. I haven't touched it in about 10 years since the last bad reaction and was how you described Erin's reaction but happened about 30-60 minutes after I ate it and it knocked me on my butt for almost a full day (I had it for lunch). I can eat fish fine with no bad reaction (cod, haddock, salmon, etc). Sometimes I feel a little icky with shrimp but it's not all the time and it's not bad. I'm afraid to eat scallops or clams and I love fried and steamed clams. Living in New England, I grew up eating them and now I can't unless I want to deal with being violently ill. Erin's not alone and it's a sucky thing to have when you love shellfish :(
