What I love about this is you can tell that with the passion Karl speaks about how Bryan hates Tom cruise, this is totally a conversation Karl and Suzanne have had. I can just see her winding him up saying she really fancies him just because it annoys Karl. The whole scenario feels very personal.

    • @SaintPhoenixx
      @SaintPhoenixx 10 місяців тому

Definitely yeah, that was an idea he had slowly come up with while sat staring into his own eyes in his mirrored wall. Suzanne saying "______" was attractive and him being annoyed about it and creating a film where he becomes that celebrity to prove a point.

Right? The actor synonymous with the MI films isn't important.😄 I think this is Karl pre-empting Ricky and Steve's mocking of his choice in actor (after the Warren incident)... despite it being the obvious choice. Karl is his own worst enemy... behind Ricky & Steve.

26:25 Another example of how invaluable Steve is to the balance of the trio, keeping things structured and Karl and Ricky on point. So many wonderful moments would have been lost without his careful guidance. He's absolutely as important as the other two.

The guy who collected majority of the early collection for the London Natural History Museum that Karl talks about was Sir Hans Sloane. He was a doctor who travelled the world collecting tons of things , and when he passed away he had in his will that the government could buy his collection of over 70 thousand items, which helped set up the museum.
Also, the same guy on his travels came across cacao in Jamaica. He found it bitter so mixed it with milk to drink. He later opened a chocolate shop in London selling drinks of chocolate milk, thus introducing chocolate milk. There's a square in London named after him too. Very important guy

Famously, old Horror actor Bela Lugosi died halfway through 'Plan 9 from Outer Space' and they got a (non) lookalike to play the rest of his scenes, see 'Ed Wood' with Johnny Depp. Oliver Reed died whilst making 'Gladiator' and John Candy in 'Wagons East' but they used trick photography and old footage to show them later in the films.

Their new intro is me on a clumsy day. Which doesn't happen much, but the few times it does ......
The lady who wrote in ...... I know I said similar stuff (how Mandy said that people HERE, in the comments, did the same thing), but it was more of me agreeing with Mandy. Or, explaining how I disagreed with Karl. I hope I never flat out said "This dimwit guy Karl has no clue what he's talking about."
5:40 - 5:44 Karl cracks me up, EVERY time, with his "Right?" when he's explaining things.
Clipable mat .... So basically, a clip board, but for a cup, instead of for paper. 😂
9:53 Yeah, I noticed the color of the studio is more bold. (The blue wall, the brown table, Stephen's green shirt - cause the wall sort of blends in with Mandy's shirt). Not necessarily like technicolor. But, just more like how you see things on a sunny day, versus a cloudy day. If anyone understands. That idea.
Okay, I thought of a good way to wear a tie, after all of their conversation about it, and Mandy's "It's just a pocket" line ...... Remember when Karl was on the nude beach in that other show? And they said he's required to be nude to be on the beach, so he left ..... And then, every time they showed, ahem, "it," Mandy turned away ..... Well, if you had a tie on, that was long enough (cause the closer you get to the end, the wider the tie is), that would cover said area (assuming the guy isn't overly above average, or hanging in a certain way), while at the same time, you're, in a way, technically still nude, as required by the beach, so you get to stay. That way, both sides are happy. Everyone else is enjoying the beach, and at the same time, Karl and Mandy don't have to be seen like that, or wind up seeing "it," down there. THERE'S a "purposeful" use for a tie for ya, Karl! 😄.... Instead of saying you're carrying "change," since cash is now obsolete. Even the key is obsolete at many places, like hotels. I thought more of the hanker chief going into the tie's pocket, while he was talking. Not scissors! 😂...... And then I did, here, exactly what I was talking about in my second paragraph. 😂
The Tom Cruise part ...... There are Twilight Zone episodes like that. Good show, by the way. Look it up. The original, with Rod Serling.
30:31 In the mean time, if you take a screen shot of it, you can print it yourself, just for you, at home. Like how people have posters of their favorite actor. And, crop it, to where it's just Karl in the picture.

Could maybe have rewound 10 seconds at a few places you paused "the bones and skin and stuff of Tom Cruise" at 25:30 and "Ted Danson as Bryan as Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt" at 28:05. The timing, cadence and rhythm are so important to the crescendo of the skit, sometimes it feels like momentum is lost and not fully built back up.
To be fair, you don't know what's coming like we do, and waiting to pause means you might forget what you wanted to say. But when we know the flood is coming, and building, only to be halted midstream it can be underwhelming - compared to our own first experiences where we had the luxury of uninterrupted build up and payoff.
Trying not to criticise, just sharing my opinion. I like the pausing and your own feedback and stories otherwise I wouldn't be watching, but rewinding is essential for videos like these. J key is your friend ^^

To be fair, they didn’t actually do it as a podcast this. Initially started as a radio show on XFM that then moved over to BBC radio. Karl was the producer of the show, which was initially just a show meant to involve Ricky Gervais and Stephen what’s his name. It then got adapted into a podcast and then also into a cartoon. The original radio shows are actually quite interesting to watch because you get the backstory as to what they were actually talking about, rather than what hbo edited it to be.
I think when it moved over to the bbc it was a podcast though. I think they did both tbh
