- How to make the most delicious Basil Pesto Pasta. It’s tasty, easy, cheap, healthy, fresh, fragrant and full of flavour. This recipe is definitely a must-try. Please enjoy!
Serves - 2
Ingredients -
2 Cloves - Garlic
15g - Parmesan Cheese, Freshly Grated
15g - Pinenuts, Untoasted * See note down below
45g (1 Bunch) - Basil Leaves
3 Tbs - Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 1/2 Tbs - Sea Salt (1/2 Tbs for pesto, 1 Tbs for pasta water)
1/4 tsp - Ground Black Pepper
250g - Spaghetti or Pasta of your choice
Parmesan Cheese and Basil to serve.
Note* - I have used untoasted pinenuts. You can toast these if you prefer. It adds an extra nutty flavour to the pesto. To toast, place the pinenuts on a baking tray and place in a preheated oven set to 180.C or 350.F and toast for 3-4 minutes, until lightly golden. Add to the blender as per usual.

This is very helpful because I am 14 and my parents work so I have to cook sometimes so thank you very much because you saved me today 😅
Glad I could help!
You are awesome Lizzy, your parents must be so proud of you! 😊
You should be out playing and eating McDonald's crap food🎉❤
@@carolray9156???
@@carolray9156to be fair macdonalds doesn’t taste nearly as good as pesto pasta
The fact that you tell us to be careful with the steam of the pasta is just proof of how wholesome your videos are. The other day I made the simple tomato and basil sauce and it was incredible. Thank you for your videos, chef. Keep 'em coming!
The last thing I would want is for someone to burn themselves, it’s not a nice feeling! I’m so glad you enjoyed the tomato and basil pasta! Thank you for your support, it’s greatly appreciated. 🙏
.
Omg I was litereally about to say the same thing! Amaze, thanks so much for taking the time to make this awesome video :)
Him: "Now you can add some cheese."
Me: :)
Him: "You can add as much cheese as you like!"
Me: :D
Lol I love cheese
I made this today, so quick and easy! I love how you give the leftover and freezing tips on all your recipes. Super helpful info if you cooking for one and planning meals for the week ahead. Many thanks and can't wait to try more of your recipes!
Thank you so much. I am going to try this with chicken. This is much healthier than some of the other recipes that call for heavy cream. I can't wait to make it. I just need to buy a food processor to blend the ingredients to make the pesto.
I just made this recipe! It was delicious! And I love the couple of tips I learned (pasta water, swirling pasta when serving)! Thank you very much! 👌🏼👏🏼
I just made this tonight for dinner but added some shrimp. It was soooo good. I used homegrown basil and it just made it that much more special. Definitely recommend. Thank you.
Sounds great! Glad you enjoyed it!
How do you add your shrimp? Is it boiled or cooked in any specific way?
@@hxsm8090 no not really. I just added my favorite seafood seasoning, some pepper, and some thyme (don’t add salt, shrimp is salty by itself, it doesn’t really need it) and cooked in over the stove with some canola oil until it was pink on both sides.
Great idea! I'm going to try this tomorrow. May toss in some red bell pepper with the shrimp
Ha ha! I typed Basil Pesto Pasta and see how it is done and YT recommends this video and I am amazed to see it was your video, Chef Jack! Now I got this recipe, I am really ready for tomorrow's Basil Pesto Pasta! And thanks for the tip on not reheating this kind of pasta since it turns black and looks not appetizing (for the magazine-look picture) but as you said as long as the yummy and rich flavor is there, looks doesn't really matter much! Thank you so much!
I just finished the preparation wish me luck it’s my first time will let you know if the outcome. But the way you made it looks gorgeous. Thanks
You’ll smash it! Please enjoy. It’s really delicious! 👌
so how was it?
@@maximilianwonschik1304 omg so sorry i thought i replied, it was great hank you also funny that you reached out today cuz believe or not i just made your garlic mushroom sauce and had it for lunch. it was freaking delicious thank you sir
Love how you explain how to make it look appetizing, definitely making this later
This one is so good! I make this one quite regularly and can definitely say it’s worth it!
@@ChefJackOvens yeah, love how it was so easy to make too, I'm thirteen and barely ever cook but when I made it for dinner my neighbors and brothers loved it.
I MUST do this recipe! I was like wtf? I thought making pesto was hard, thank you for this recipe. As always, Great, simple and very practical vídeo n.n Greetings from Chile
Please do! Pesto is very easy to make and the flavours are fantastic. It works really well with pasta. This dish is delicious. Thank you and greetings from Australia. 😊😁
This is the true recipe I was looking for, no excess sauce or anything
Thanks for these videos Chef Ovens! Love the variety and you have encouraged someone who never cooks to cook all the time now.
That’s great to hear, I’m happy to have given you motivation. Cooking can be tough, especially when you get it wrong but when it’s done right it’s extremely rewarding!
For years I've watched Italian cooks make pesto and pasta. I was intrigued. So I finally made this recipe.
I was disapointed. I don't like basil or pine nuts. So now I know. Lesson learned. Worth a chuckle!!!!!
Just tried your other pasta recipe with tomato & basil sauce and it was delicious. Gonna give this one a go next time.
Great to hear! Please enjoy 😊
Pouring the oil slowly while it blends is the best way I think
Quick and to the point. Excellent
Love this Basil pesto pasta! ♥♥
lovely video, thanks for making it short but still very well explained and so useful.❤❤❤❤❤

*sigh* getting ready to go home for the holidays and haven’t bought groceries. All I could find was a jar of pesto and pasta so here we are. Thankfully I have parm and olive oil
Fabulous demo,thank you
Thanks for watching!
I love these easy recipes and your frequent uploads!
Just hoping if it is possible to get your explanation about the reason the dish is called "pesto" (something like the key ingredient or certain technique involved), and also explanation in other dishes as well. It helps me a lot in learning process. Thanks.
I’m glad you enjoy the content! The word pesto originates from the Genoese word pesta, which means to pound or crush. The original and authentic way to prepare this is in a mortar and pestle.
@@ChefJackOvens thanks! Consider adding those kind of little explanations in your next videos to spread knowledge and thus creating room of modification for us by sticking to the essentials.
Will be waiting for your next videos!
I’ll be sure to include all of the details. Thank you for the support! 🙏👌
I MADE IT ITS SOOO GOOD pesto > tomato tbh
Glad you enjoyed it 🙏
Do you buy fresh herbs every time? If not, how do you store them to last longer? Can you do a video on that?
I buy fresh herbs every time. I wrap them in a damp kitchen cloth and then wrap them with plastic wrap. I store them in the fridge for up to 4-5 days. They stay really fresh. I will add these details in future videos 😊
Thanks for telling me why the basil is not cooked. I was confused in shorts when nobody cooked it
This recipe looks so good!! Yum!!
* pats the myself from 3 years ago in the back for buying measuring spoons back when I was in England cause the world of UA-cam cooking is merciless towards those who don't have them *
But thanks for the measurements in grams though! I wonder where one could buy pine nuts, though 🤔
They don't seem to be in the same aisle as walnuts and hazelnuts.
Haha! I try to accommodate all units of measurement. Sometimes it’s better to say 1/2 tsp or 1 tsp other than 0.5 grams or ounces as most scales don’t even read that amount. Pine nuts should be in the nut section with walnuts and hazelnuts etc. If you cant find them this pesto works just as good with almonds, cashews, macadamias, peanuts and walnuts. 😊👌
@@ChefJackOvens Ah, yeah, but what I mean to say is that in some parts of the world, the very concept of teaspoon and tablespoon doesn't exist. In my country, we use "soup spoons" and "coffee spoons", but they're not even equivalent to tsp and tbsp in terms of quantity 😔
And I'll try pesto with those other nuts, should give some interesting flavours!
Amazing 🤩and so easy to cook at home. Thnx Chief! 👨🍳
Yessss I'm making that to night
I made it an loved it, it was yummy yum yum, but my boss said it was just ok
Thanks for the recipe was great

@@ChefJackOvens yup the voice over is way btr
Hello chef, I didn't find any pine nuts but I bought sunflower seeds, what do you think chef, is it the same amount, should I use 15 grams too?
Very nice work ❤Thank you
It’s an absolute pleasure
Very enjoyable.. thanks Jack. Just made it. 😊
Great idea for Sunday's dinner ;) cheers
It sure is!
THANK YOU YOUR THE BEST
I love it 👍🏻
Thank you! Happy to hear!
Awesome. Thanks.
Hi! Loved this recipe. However, I would like to know how you adjust your measurements if you’d like to have larger pasta servings.
thank you
Wow
Its so good!
Look good i like it
That looks yummy
Glad you think so 😊
Thanks!!!!
No problem!
Made this today! Amazingly simple yet delicious. I was just wandering, what is your favorite vegetarian dish (and have you already made a video about it?)
That’s great to hear. A favourite is very hard to choose! It would most likely be any pasta dish or Asian salads. They are so good. I will be making a series soon on all of my favourite foods! 👌
Great video thank you !
Yummy thanks for sharing
Will give it a try. I did a pesto from the scratch before and it's not a success and I haven't eaten a pesto again since then. #foodstory 😁
This pesto is so easy to make and it has amazing flavours. I do have a pesto recipe in its own video that’s slightly different but this one here is perfect for the pasta. 👌
I am doing this tonight
Awesome! Please enjoy it
Please add butter as well
Luca could never
Looks amazing!
Can you do a chicken and peanut butter sauce tutorial please?
Thank you! I do have a delicious recipe for a Thai satay chicken curry - ua-cam.com/video/atqiQFNo4k8/v-deo.html The Flavour of this dish is phenomenal!
@@ChefJackOvens good man. Appreciate this.
I’m more than happy to help! 🍻
Can i ask why you say to keep 1 cup aside but only add a quarter? Just curious
😍😍
me: Drooling!
🤤🤤
@@ChefJackOvens Was it good? Like hell it was! Enough for two people you said. Haha says I. I added some tomato slices instead of oil&liquid. It changed the taste to ...Lebanon?
If not good to heat pesto, what if it’s coming out of the fridge? Wait til it’s room temp as the pasta water wouldn’t heat it enough?
You can use it out the fridge. It will cool the pasta down slightly but this dish is great cold as well. When I say it’s not good to heat pesto or basil, I mean don’t cook it, as long as you don’t add it to the pan whilst it’s still on and only mix it into the pasta once it’s off the heat you’ll have no problems at all 😊
😂pa cute pa more kng totoo yan na kinakawawa nd ganyan ang reaction 😂
Very delicious and healthy. I am your new friend here. Please stay connected. Thanks
Thank you very much!
Any specific types of basil leave should I use? Sweet basil?
Anything else i can usee instead of Pine nuts? Coz they r expensive
Doesn’t Olive oil get bitter if it’s put in a blender?
if I do not have pin nuts can I just use the cheese and garlic?
Yes, the pine nuts can be left out
Puedo usar nueces normales ??
You sure can
@@ChefJackOvens thank you
I love the part where you gave up twisting the pasta
so i cannot find him much 15 grams is in like cups, tbsp, tsp, etc. how do i find those?
I'm having issues getting the chunks out what should I do?
Did you blend the stems too? If it’s chunky your blender might be struggling and you may need to remove some and do it in batches
👍😍
Are the pine nuts optional? My mom is allergic
You can substitute for any other nut or leave it out all together 😊
What if I wont add pine nuts coz I'm allergic to it
You can leave them out. If you’re able to consume other variety’s of nuts, walnuts and macadamias work really well too
Does this microwave well for work
Sure does 😊
Can i used peanut instead of pinenut
You sure can 😊
Definitely use less garlic. 1 clove will suffice. Mine was much too garlicy with 2. Garlic is such a high impact seasoning. Kind of disappointing overall. I’ll try it again sometime with just 1 clove and more basil leaves. I used a tad less basil than recommended so the taste of the oil and garlic really came through heavy. Added some heavy cream to lessen the spice but it drowned the basil flavor too some.
Is it also ok if i dont use nuts?
Sorry for being late but yeah u can use without nuts
Hi! if I wanted to make it a creamy pesto when and how much cream would i have to add?
what a stupid question. it's just same as asking "i wanna wake up early, what time should i wake up?"
@@이재익-b8u Well, whut time should I wake up ?
@@North63Point Early
What are pine nut alternatives that can be used?
Any nut of your choice really
I'm allergic to pinenuts is there a replacement or can I just do the dish without?
You can substitute them for pistachios peanuts, macadamias, cashews or my personal favourite walnuts. 😊
@@ChefJackOvens sadly... I'm allergic to nuts in general haha
@@ChefJackOvens I'll try it without any see how it goes
Oh sorry about that. This can be made easily without the nuts. It’ll still have great flavour!
I have everything except the parmesan cheese so I'll skip that part.
Cooking pasta tonight 😁
What kind of blender are you using? Thanks!
it looks like an attachment to a stick blender.
I sincerely apologise for the late reply. The brand is "Singer" and it's a professional hand mixer with a processor attachment.
@@ChefJackOvens No worries! Thanks! i was using a blender and it really didn't blend it very well.
where do you find fresh basil. i can only find them in little packs
Green grocers or supermarkets depending on where you are in the world
Is it really necessary to add pine nuts?
They add texture helping to ground down the basil also adding amazing flavour. They can be substituted with any nut really. Pine nuts are quite expensive
@@ChefJackOvens thanks!
😻
Always ends up plain tasting I find ?...
Tomorrow’s lunch then.
Please enjoy!👌
Can I use pecorino cheese instead..?
You sure can 😊
Really, this easy ??
sure is 😊
